Thank you Bob & Brad! Many of us have injuries during this difficult time (COVID-19). Can’t go to physical therapy or were scheduled for surgery’s now delayed indefinitely. You have helped me recover from numerous overuse issues related to running, hiking, nordic walking etc. You 2 are better than any of my so called specialist-please know that I reside in an elite medical community- and believe me, I have access to the best- not one of my Doc’s have spent the time or have explained treatment as thoroughly as you 2 have. Not to mention the terrific practical tips! Thanks again for doing so much for many. Especially now! Please stay safe out there, we all need you more than you will ever know. 🙏❤️💪

I have been struggling with this exact pain for the past two months and my general practitioner basically just told me to rest it, and when the pain didn’t go away he told me to just rest it some more. No other advice, and wouldn’t send me to a specialist or do any further testing. I have been in such tremendous pain that no amount of resting has made better. For the first time in two months, I’m not in pain because of that massage technique!!! Thank you SO much!!!!!!

I appreciate the advice. One thing that you don't mention that my PT recommended (although not specific to the anterior tibialis) is one leg balancing. I shrugged it off at first but when the pain and tightness returned, I heeded to what she said. I do believe it has helped. The strength it takes to stand on one foot is felt in the arch (navicular bone) which is connected to the anterior tibialis so the exercise forces the muscle to constantly adjust and work (at least that's my thoughts).

Thank you so very much for explaining so clearly what I can do to relieve and strengthen. I have missed the most important 1st step-icing to relieve the pain. The foot brace which I bought out of desperation for the pain to be able to walk helps with mobility and has helped me to be able to walk. Will start over with the icing and gentle exercise...A BIG THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

Thought I had gout as well ... because it was in my other foot but this is seemingly tendonitis. And as a "older" pro inline vert skater and 30 year post-kidney transplant recipient I try to stay on top of every medical issue I experience to minimize down time and other complications ... it ain't easy!! But I was glad to hear I could still ride my mountain bike as the pain doesn't prevent me from hitting the trails :-) Thanks everyone! And stay healthy!!!

I was born with club foot. I had a complete triple fusion of all mid bones and Achilles lengthened. I walk on the outer edge of my foot. I have managed for 50 yrs but I get that pain right where that mark is on Bob’s leg. So I go to walk forward and the pain is so sharp that I have to halt. In fact the only way to walk is to point my foot outwards and then I can sort of get around. Went to the podiatrist last week and he thinks it is this tendon and taped up my leg. To my surprise this is the most pain free I have been for weeks, I was literally crying with pain before 😢 My podiatrist said it might be worth making a rocker insole for my shoe to stop me putting to much pressure on this tendon. One more thing is that ice baths work but heat doesn’t . Thanks for your videos xx

Thank you (equally) "famous" Bob and Dave! I am a longtime distance runner, female, 35 years+ and have managed to stay relatively injury free (ie: no surgeries)! I attribute this to luck, genetics, and some common sense. As an aging runner(49,) one learns to adapt routine to stay healthy, through stretching and potential injury management, aka, time off! I strongly dislike time off! My only real issues over the years are my tendons, foot and knee. I am currently experiencing ATT, and scoured the internet for good info. THANK YOU for this video! You have helped me understand so much in 10 short minutes. Question!!! I never know how much I can do while healing a tendon in the foot, knee etc. For example, my big dogs and children require me to be on foot, moving, sometimes really fast ("mom..OW.....heeeellllllp")! So, not moving much in the early stages of an injury isn't an option. With this specific condition, ATT, what should I expect in terms of healing, while needing to use it on a daily basis, for walking and being on foot much of the time? Sorry for the long note! I am forwarding your site to several of my runner friends who are in the same boat as me, ie: falling apart slowly. Sign me, Getting old and hating it! I have foot drop on my left foot from a back injury and got surgery to fix the slipped disc and slowly getting strength in the leg again. It doesn’t help being a nurse and walking basically all day. Game plan is to follow all these stretches, Ice, compress and just try to relax and hopefully that helps.

Hi Bob and Brad. Just wanted to say it's sooo nice to see you covering stretching out tight calf muscles, which so frequently are the reason for the tib. ant. strain in the first place. So often I see therapists just treating the tib. ant. strain itself, without standing back and asking WHY it strained. All power to your elbows. Also thumbs, fingers and whatnot. Cheers, Steve August.

I LOVE your channel - thank you! This anterior tibia tendon seems to be the source of a VERY painful cramp that I occasionally get in the top of my foot which wakes me out of a sound sleep! It is a spasm that pulls my foot upward and I cannot release it to its normal position unless I get out of bed and walk around for a couple of minutes - even then, if I am not careful in getting back into bed, it will spasm again & pull my foot upward. I am in good physical shape for my age (70) and typically take a brisk walk of about 2 miles each morning & continue throughout my day with an additional 2 to 3 miles just doing chores, yard work, shopping, etc. Would these exercises that you show in this video be useful in preventing this painful spasm in my foot??

I have extensor tendonitis I think, which causes a periodic and very annoying twinge on the top of my foot behind the base of my little toe. I hadn't considered massaging the shin muscle for it until watching you guys explain the muscle involved in that tendon but that is stopping the twinge from happening. I'm hoping wrapping that muscle will allow me to sleep tonight. I'll be icing the muscle and the inflamed tendon throughout the day as well. I'm pretty sure its because I don't do enough walking but started walking my dog regularly recently and am trying to get in a routine for my health. Not about to let this stop that. ;)

I just watched this and I have pain on top and on the sides of my foot. I've tried about everything, including Horse Linament. The one thing that has really helped me, is magnesium oil that I make myself. 1 cup of Ancient Magnesium Flakes to 1 cup of water. I boil the distilled water, then add a heaping cup full of flakes and stir until dissolved. Cool this and put in a glass container, like a mason jar, to store. When I need some, I shake the mason jar, pour some into a small, glass spray bottle and spray it on my foot where it is hurting and rub until its damp. (Usually after I have taken a shower or soaked my foot in hot water). Then put on heavy socks. If the pain hasn't diminished to the point of being bearable, I repeat with the mag oil. Usually this takes about 4 different times until I can sleep. I hope this helps you guys. Magnesium Flakes can be bought through Amazon or buy agood Epsom Salt. Ask your pharmacist which magnesium is the best for this in his opinion. There are a couple different kinds.

I think that my ankle and neck pain on the right side of my body are all connected. What do you suggest to “unlock” my right side? I tried rolling, ice and chiropractor and I am still in pain. I am so upset. I have been to 4 foot doctors in Winnipeg and now I’m waiting two years to see a foot surgeon. I have extensor tendinitis and the tops of both my feet so badly. I have tried everything and it goes away, but comes back and lasts for months. I am going to watch this video and do everything they say, and let’s see if I can get some relief.

Thanks for these. I'm not injured, but skating puts a lot of strain on these muscles so I think I need to strengthen and stretch them.

Thanks for the informative video. I got this injury from using the incline on the treadmill too much. I have a night splint for plantar fasciitis. Would wearing this at night be good for anterior tibialis tendonitis?

I also got pain in that top of the foot and shin area recently, probably from starting jump rope training after a longer break, and then the strained tendon(s) and surrounding nerves flared up very painfully during "ski gym" training. Instinctively I also tried rest, icing, and those static wall stretches for the calf which helped fast, plus some slow up and down foot raise exercises standing with the heels over the edge of a stair a few times per week. In addition to those treatments and exercises, wearing flatter and more flexible minimalist running shoes for workouts and lightly padding the area so the nerves wouldn't be irritated again by pressure from the laces seemed to help a lot. I'll try the shown band exercise in addition next week.

I have anterior impingement of both ankles which is painful. I do stretching exercises with an elastic strap that I purchased from physical therapy. Also purchased a ankle stretching device which helps, but I don't know if anything can be done to relieve this condition. I also wear an Arizona brace on my right foot. Thanks.
