100%! I started doing the reverse lunges about 4 months ago. Slowly built up to 20 a day. It's been life changing. I've been doing squats for years, while I brush my teeth every evening. Then I added counter-top push ups four months ago as well. Very slow progress, but I'm doing it consistently. I am 67, and have several neurological conditions and I'm not willing to accept that these things mean I can't do everyday activities. I'm fighting. Thanks for giving great guidance!

While they are good exercises for your physical health, to me there is a missing important part of exercising, that is enjoying life while exercising. Most people will not believe me, but my exercise put emphasis on mental stimulation, engaging in social interaction & enjoying life while exercising. I am 86 yrs old male, I reach this old age by just dancing to a variety of dancing styles for 40 yrs,. Since I retired at age 65, I have been dancing & still dancing & attending dance parties , like Ballroom, Swing Dances, Salsa & Bachata, Argentine Tango, Hustle Etc, 4 to 5 times a week, for at least 2 hrs. Attending dance parties some last until 2::00AM, enabled to reach this old age & enjoying life as a priority.

The benefits of exercise for senior citizens, of whom I am now one: Longevity and quality of life. I exercise in various ways roughly six days weekly. Benefits: Sleep better, rejuvenation as opposed to fitful rolling around. More energy to do things. This week I was in a city and was misdirected by software as to directions. No problem, a half mile walk with a small load. (Before exercising I would likely have returned to the car and maybe said to heck with the whole enterprise and gone back home.) Mood: Positive, not the "mean old man" or the guy who runs the world "as it should be" from his computer and lectures at length about how right he is about everything, all the time. No. Have a sense of humor. Realize frequently that nothing is a good thing to say and do in some circumstances. Bottom line: Exercise helps immeasurably with quality of life, not just longevity. I can think of people I've know who went down wrong paths of sitting around watching endless television, unable to move without pain, eating way too much and utterly miserable to be around. Don't do that. Be positive, be kind, enjoy life. Exercise.

One thing to make sure of... use a strongly built wall... Cinder block or brick... some drywall walls (and even plaster & lathe ones) you can damage, especially if you are heavier.

I stopped doing lunges because the big toe on the back foot starts to hurt from being in a flex position. What's the fix for that? I do wear shoes when I lunge and that helps a little but the pain from toe flexion is still noticeable.

Sad that people let themselves go through the decades, if you haven’t, I find the burpee is the best bang for your buck exercise, at least a couple of times every week I try to knock out between 60-100 in a session. Follow with dumbbell squat thrusters.

Most elderly people have problems getting up off the floor. As a child you spend a lot of time on the floor, adults do not. Doing yoga / stretching exercises on the floor can improve balance, mobility, flexibility and the ability to get up and down.. Just getting up and down to the floor in a controlled manner is difficult for many older adults. Play with your children on the floor. Bend over, get down and pull weeds in your garden. Play with a pet on the floor. The more effort you make to work on balance and flexibility will pay dividends as you age.
@donnagarner60079 күн бұрын
As you were talking about getting up from the lunge position is easier than others, I realized I've been doing that lately. In the kitchen, digging in lower cabinets bending is not good! Also cleaning out my two litter boxes is done on the floor. Anyway because of that the lunges were much easier than I remember!😊❤😊 I've thought Bob & Brad are a great help, and now we have Mike as well! Thank you all so much!

Daily exercise is key to as healthy life. Ride a bicycle to school, work or for fun. Riding a bicycle is a great way to exercise. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. Be healthier and happier. Ride a bicycle regularly. Make a bicycle your transportation option for short distance travel.
