Awesome to see this and Bobby so full of life, drop dead gorgeous, sexy, self confidence, happy to give his audience what they want, so full of charm which makes any woman go week at the knees. Recoding this song was Bobby's genius, making it his own, for it continued launching his career into the stratosphere. What a voice, a genius, master of his own making, multi-talented, singer/ song writer, and actor to top it all. There was no stopping Bobby until that fateful day of December 20th, 1973. God took him home to rest, now he sings with the angels above. RIP!!

Bobby Darin is amazing. He fit into one generation and then into the next, such a cool guy, an artist. Jazz is too much for some young artists, but Bobby Darin knew jazz, and took his music into another venue. He had a great heart, and so sad that he went out of this life with a heart that couldn't last as long as his Soul. Bobby was a wonderful person, a wonderful Soul, a brilliant musician, and an Artist in his time, and into the future. What a great artist and a cool guy he was! He is very well loved.

This performance stands as proof that Darin was more than a man gifted with a great singing voice. The way he moves, sings, interacts with everything around him are not only ingenious ways to enhance the experience, but they're so slick and natural that one would think he practically wrote the book on cool.

One of the best songs ever and the best performance ever. A man who was confident of his abilities and rightly so. His performance was all about him loving the song and convincing the audience that they loved it too, they should play this to all new singers with the headline, `This is how its meant to be done`.

Sinatra tried a totally different arrangement. Darin wasn't the only other singer to do this song. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby even, all did this song. Darin had the biggest hit with it, but all those versions are legit. While the studio recording Sinatra did (and redid in 1986) was actually not as exciting as his live performances of the song during the mid-1980s. I would point to his 1985 performance in Japan.

Unbelievable the way he builds it to that big finish. Given the rather gory and graphic subject matter of the song, from an objective standpoint, it shows you just how masterful a performer he truly was. Unbelivable vocal timing , phrasing and delivery, and if all that wasn't enough, Bobby even does a few snazzy microphone handling tricks. Pure magic.

You know, I just listened to Frank Sinatra's live versions and studio version of this Darin classic, and I immediately realized Frank should never have attempted this tune. Watch any one of Darin's live versions (or, of course, the original studio version) and Frank's version becomes embarrassing. Darin had impeccable rhythm, unGodly timing, and a magneticicm that comes right through the computer. He swings and rocks. He was a genius talent, and the insiders know Frank was intimidated by him.

Bobby oozes confidence, even more so than Frank on this song. And why not? It IS his song. His wasn't the best voice, but the package [voice, mannerism, connection to the audience] was sooo good! I don't know if his riffs were spontaneous or scripted, but either way, he made it work, and then some. THE COOLEST performer of the last 50 years. Now, if you want to debate me on cool, OK, but Bobby set the standard, and if you cannot admit that, then don't come to the forum.

Bobby would have been alive today if technology exist for Heart Valve Replacement exists at the time of his death. Bobby Darin has an ailment called Aortic Regurgitation. When he was quite young, he had Rheumatic Fever or Scarlet Fever, quite an epidemic in the 50's. If you had this, it will damage your heart. Our heart has 4 valves. One is Aortic valve, another is mitral valve. This aortic valve controls blood flow between the heart's left ventricle, the main pumping chamber of the heart, and the aorta, the main artery that supplies oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. This heart valve disorder can be controlled through medication such as ACE inhibitors, anticoagulants, Beta blockers. There will come a time when the valve becomes ruptured or diseased & will have to be replaced. It is beyond repair. At the time of his ailment, there is no technology for valve replacement. I think Bobby's condition was such that he died without recourse to valve rapair or replacement. Nowadays, Valve Replacement or Repair is quite common. Bobby would have been alive if the technology exists at the time he got sick. I know. I had valve replacement 2 years ago in 2014. And I feel like a new man!

This was the second single I bought. The first one was Bambino by the Springfields. A very eclectic taste. lol

I can't believe you omitted Ella Fitzgerald from that list. Even Frank regarded Lady Ella as the greatest of all time.

How can those people just sit there like rocks and not even clap along or Bob their heads to the beat? This groove is infectious!

I couldn't agree more. These three "got into" a song like few others. We lost Darin and the King way too soon...but their music lives on.
