Jury is still out for me on those things as a go-to woodyard machine. They do look handy, but I think I'd miss my tractor. If money were no object, I'd like to try the JCB 300T.
@765Guys
@765Guys 6 ай бұрын
I googled jcb300t, looks out of my price range and I don’t have any local dealers to provide quick parts on the used worn out unit I’d be able to afford😂. These don’t fit everyone, your yard is plenty big and open that a tractor is a good fit for you.

Hey Genin, great video! I think a mini skid steer could definitely replace my tractor in my firewood process, they are sweet little machines for sure.

Isn’t it crazy how much they will lift while it is only rated for 1k and our kiotis are rated for 1700?!

@@765Guys yeah I think they inflate the lift capacity a bit on the tractor spec sheet. My Ck3510 struggles with the 330 gallon ibc cadges full of ash and maple mix

I've used the Toro variant and I have to pretty agree with everything you said. To me, it's the ideal mix between tractor and skid steer. Now, you can get most any 3 pt attachment for the front of that. Fits through the woods great. Just a versatile machine. My only real beef, they always seem tippy to me, even with the rear ballast weights installed. Hard to beat for a one man firewood operation. Few years ago, you couldn't find as many used attachments for them as you could 3pt tractor, but I'm sure that's changing as they have been around for a bit now. Plus, rentals are near by.
@765Guys

Spot on, I agree with them seeming tippy, quick hydraulics and short footprint really contribute to that. Thanks for stopping by and sharing Bob!

Great video Genin!! I’ve looked into these little units and have had similar thoughts. If I was only using it for firewood, and nothing else, that’s probably what I’d have. But to be honest,, I love tractors new and old. I use my tractor for more than just firewood too. I have wondered if standing up for long periods of time would be irritating. You operate it well for no more time than you’ve had on it!! I could see its compact size being super handy.
@765Guys
@765Guys 6 ай бұрын
It’s very easy to operate, I think if I was to run it for 8 hours straight my legs my hurt, the platform does have alot of flex to absorb bumps. I also know when I sit on my tractor for 2 hours busy hogging I’m ready to be done😂. Your spot on, just for firewood or like tasks, probably is the perfect machine, maintaining large property probably isn’t its strong point. Thanks for stopping by Jacob 👍

I’ve rented one in the past and like them. At the time i was finishing off the sides of my tree lined driveway and needed the compact size. I’ve got a mini-x, Bobcat T595 CTL, and several tractors, so I really don’t need more equipment. If money wasn’t an object, I’d definitely add one to my fleet. They’d be really handy in the woodyard for the reasons you noted.

That’s a good one! It looks like a tank in your videos. Seems like a lot of newcomers are entering the mini skid market, however bobcat has made mini skids for 20 years and my local dealer is awesome, so that will be my machine if I choose to go that route. I just value a product that is proven with parts readily available. Thanks for stopping by Matt!

Possibly, if I get one I plan to get a low hour unit so repairs should be awhile out. I’m a decent mechanic and these are pretty simple machines. my local dealer can get ahold of most parts fairly quick and bobcat has great manuals and diagrams to help sort through issues. @@BensFirewood I’d agree, I think Vermeer is the best mini skid. But, they are much more expensive and they wouldn’t work with my skid steer attachments. Nearest dealer is also 1.5 hours away so not preferred for me. I did buy an mt100, and so far I have no complaints. Haven’t had a tote of green or seasoned wood it wouldn’t handle.

I find a tractor to be like a Swiss Army Knife. It does an OK job at many things, but isn't great at any one thing. A couple of the other firewood channels I watch are using Baumalight mini skids in their operations and are having some success with it. I am having my back patio redone with interlocking brick at the moment and my landscaper is using the same Bobcat MT100. The main reason is the narrow width when having to enter through gates. He uses 36" buckets for the same reason. It's a workhorse of a machine.

Finding one in an acceptable price range might prove difficult but looking into one of the smaller articulating wheel loaders might not be bad as they fall almost in between the tractor and mini skid steer, more maneuverable than a tractor but faster than a mini skid. no actual use in a woodyard type scenario but having used both an Avant 528 and Ditchwitch 1050 for tree service work I prefer the Avant although it does have a few more functions to learn.

Saw mike morgan's latest video and he was unloading a Vermeer mini skidsteer. Hard for me to picture the braggart, (mike) having to stand up to operate equipment. But yeah Genin those mini's would be the berries with a grapple to assist in cutting rounds. Easier to just step off than climb down off the tractor. Shame you can't keep the tractor too.

They definitely leave some marks when turning. Nothing major that needs fixed up, but not as clean as tires. A notable difference as well though is the tracks have less ground pressure and on soft surface leave less ruts than the tires.
