I still feel the occasional pull to return to bodybuilding-style training and after a week or two of it, I end up asking myself why I'm bothering. I cannot find the 'why' and end up stopping. I say this as someone that trained that way for much of my 20s and early 30s. At this point, I am finding a daily dose of 'work' involving bodyweight training, kettlebells, running, boxing and mobility work to be working well for me. I'm enjoying it; I'm looking pretty good and feeling fantastic. I stopped worrying about forcing progression, punch the clock each day and let the chips fall where they may. I eat reasonably well, 2-3 times a day, enjoy a few beers on the weekend here and there and am not suffering for it. What helped was shifting the mindset to the idea of 'work'. That we should be 'working' physically every day. Don't kill yourself. Don't force progression. Just keep working. Things get easier. When they do, do a little more or change it up. Don't stress about it. Keep it fun.

I needed this. I came back to look for the burpee community. I’ve gained weight and gotten out of shape even though I’ve gotten stronger. I’m 30, I just don’t have the desire anymore with crushing weights. I feel I don’t have time. I have a family and work and other responsibilities. I get exactly what he’s saying about conditioning going out the window.

I'm finding 'training blocks' useful. Got two months of bodybuilding starting January. Then three months of ultramarathon, with the gym work being functional strength (kettlebell swings, farmer carries, pullups, things like that). Then a month of HIIT, which could kill me at my age (your age). Knowing each block has an end date is huge.

Elaborate, how bodybuilding doesn't work without steroids
@Themilkman95Ай бұрын
No it’s because it takes a really really long time to put on muscle as a natural, I’m talking YEARS. A lot of people don’t have the patients to put in the work, also you have to bulk for most of the year, not this lean bulk crap…. I mean a calorie surplus year round, tracking your progress in the gym is really important as well, steroids don’t help most people either and they look like shit when they take it cause they don’t have the foundations together.

Yes it's insane ! 😂 I use to do this style (wheight + diet + scale for food + calculate every macro) to speed up the muscle growth cause i'm not young anymore and time is passing by. I started sport at 36 and now i'm 39. I want to see how i could become if i give my best but i guess it would take to much time to build muscle with burpee and fitness alone... and that's why i'm so involve in the diet scale and macros too, even if i'm on a burpee fitness cycle. I use to do 15 days of burpee/fitness and 15 days of weight lifting for a while. Here i just finish a 2 month everyday burpee cycle and now i'm back in just lifting. In fact, just cause changing sometimes add some fun too ! Strengh for all !

Hopefully you get back into your burpees again. Weighted Calisthenics is good spot where you can train strength alongside burpees and plyo stuff. I train with dumbells at home, high reps with dumbells which go from 10-25kg, may get some 32.5kg, it keeps me as jacked as I need to be.

I recommend shifting from "pure burpee training" to adding cross-fit style bodyweight workouts, running, pull-ups and so on. After all, the godfather of the burpee movement, Iron Wolf, also did this (see for example MARSOC short card). Crossfit has some cool workouts, for example alternating burpees, push-ups, sit-ups with 400 meter runs in between, all in one workout. For me all this never makes it boring, and makes for well-rounded fitness. Just my two cents here.
