Old school bodybuilders like Lee never injured themselves. They were focused on putting on quality muscle without overdoing it. They also kept in shape year round so they didn’t have to yo-yo their weight in order to get in contest shape; that puts a lot of stress on the heart. Look at today’s mass monsters who have all kinds of injuries because they don’t train smart, or diet right.

Mind over matter, stimulate, not annihilate. The GOAT has spoken. Still recall watching a documentary on german TV back in 1989 (Mr. O Prep 1986/87 maybe) at the age of 14. And, boy, was I impressed by Haney, Iron Mike and Gaspari, whom they filmed prepping some fine fish. Truely the golden era. Started lifting in 90, got bit more serious in 91... this documentary plus Arnold's picture in the 1986 Guiness Book of Records lit the fire. True story.

HIT has been my go to approach. Not as infrequent as Mentzer proposed and 4 to 5 sets per exercise I've found works for me very well. So ii guess is a variation of HIT in that I work with slow paced reps controlled with a weight that allows me to reach a minimum amount of reps while controlling the movement and stretching the damn muscle. Soreness of the next day is ALWAYS there and that has been my way to tell that the workout was intense enough. Obviously there is a thin line between soreness of a productive workout and soreness from overtraining. You've got to be able to tell the difference. This is very important. I've been training for about 10 years now with average genetics and I can confirm that I have obtained the best gains with this method and progress is steady both in muscularity and managing more weight every two to three workouts. I train a body part again until after the soreness goes away completely so that can take from 3 to 4 days sometimes a little longer so I basically train each muscle group once per week. For the natural bodybuilder it is a great way to progress . Obviously due to the much faster recovery timeframe that PEDs provide, using these principles is counterproductive and one would need to train with more frequency and more exercises in order to reap the benefits that steroids provide . The science is there. No one can deny science. Mentzer was on to something.
@gim123453 жыл бұрын
Mentzer used to do 4 to 6 sets and say only the last set counted.Hit is another term for injury
@josebarberena95643 жыл бұрын

@robbo80746 ай бұрын
In his own training in the later 70s he did a 2 day split twice a week, mon/tues repeat thu/Friday its way more frequency than he was promoting later in his life and i know he was using steroids but i feel it's definitely better than what he later promoted

@Mantastic-ho3vm check out a YT page called Sals classics bodybuilding he reads all the articles from tons of magazines from the old day's, late 40s & 50/60/70s articles written by the bodybuilders, Mike had his own regular column in the magazines and would talk about his training, the bigger muscles like back and legs would generally have around 6 sets max and around 3/4 for smaller muscles and hit everything twice a week

Lee Haney might have the best physique ever? Imo. This training video leaves a little to be desired though. I don’t know why he’s not mentioned more often in videos and bodybuilding discussions? He’s most definitely one of greatest bodybuilders in the history of the sport!! 8x Mr O! Come on, only one other guy has achieved that feat and he wasn’t as aesthetic as Lee, imo. I gotta wonder if his refusal to admit to steroid use has hurt his reputation somewhat? I mean, we all know Lee. There’s absolute no shame in having used PEDs in professional bodybuilding. Not if you’re serious about it.
