Boeing 747-400ERF wheel change

Hello everyone and how do you do?

What is the main purpose of gear pins ? And do all planes have these safety pins when changing tyres ?

Yes they do. They are used when they tow the aeroplanes and the hydraulics are not pressurized.

Is there checklist for that? What if someone forgets to remove a pin?

Before the wheel change takes place, the maintenance log has an entry to say- ‘Gear pins installed’. This must be cleared after the pins are removed otherwise the aircraft cannot dispatch as the Captain will not accept aircraft. A visual inspection is also completed by a pilot to confirm pins have been removed.
