@@Anonymous-bf5fk the reason is people go to theatres for experience and all the content movies or low budget movies are not what they expect to watch in theatres, but people will like to watch more action or multi hero movies in theatres where they dont have to focus full 150 mins on the movie. most prefer to watch content based movies at home, where they can focus solely on movie and dont have to see around, whistle and enjoy with fellow watchers

still has got to do a whole lot of improvement if masala films like pathaan pushpa kgf jawan etc are becoming hit.we need to have more story oriented movies like kahaani, tumbaad etc earn like pathaan pushpa etc the only movie to have a good story and have earned well is like bahubali.i will say even dangal was very popular but tbh most of its audience is from china.just see hollywood where shit masala movies like red 1 jamanji are flopping(just pick any of rocks films in the last few years) whereas films like oppenheimer(tbh its more of a biography than a orignal story oriented film) or films where the masala is not from the actors but from the characters like avengers endgame(here ik it may count under masala but i think its more of the characters which make it popular as compared to stardom of actors like srk which make the movies popular here)
