For those who needed the "swearing lessons" part of the movie in English, here it is. At a first glance I only have found the French version online and translated the French part myself.

C'est bien drôle. I do find that if I'm mildly pissed off I'll let loose some... mild expletives like "damn", "hell", or "bloody hell". If I'm pissed I'll let go with a "sh*t" or "f*ck". But if I'm really pissed off then I start chaining Quebecois swear words together.

The thing is that by themselves, the swears means nothing. They only became swears because of cultural and historical context regarding the catholic church in the province.

Which is funny, since ever since the Quiet Revolution Quebec has been the least religious province in the country, yet much of their profanity still draws on it. And it doesn't seem to itself be a development of the Quiet Revolution, either. A while ago I read Roch Carrier's novel La Guerre, Yes Sir! (in translation, but the profanity is left in the original language), and it's portrayed as being the norm during WWII. It's almost as if they liked the profanity so much they kept it even as fewer and fewer people followed the religion it draws from. Kinda cool, really.

Exactly, in Spanish languaje the Québec words are similar to some Spanish words like hôte, but they don't mean anything in Latin America

Old post but here I go anyways... That's what make it awesome for use online. Even if moderation do figure out what it is. Even though unlikely. It doesn't really mean anything. Unlike "sexual swear" words. The worse they can do is hide your post. 😁

A great picture all around! The amusing commentary on Anglo- Quebec relations is fantastic. Much of the humor wouldn't be understood by Americans. Like when the bartender comments on his turtleneck. But overall, the plot and repartee between Fiore and Huard is entertaining and funny.

Pourri is very much used but it's more to describe someone who's terrible or sucks at something. Especially competitive things like sports. It's rarely used to describe a rotten person , dishonest or a crook etc etc. ''Asti qui y'est pourri lui''. ''Fuck , this guy's terrible''

@@donnydonowitz9424 Avant la Réforme, les Anglais avaient aussi des sacrés. Certaines expressions sont des versions adoucies de termes initialement blasphématoires. Par exemple, "Bloody" vient de "By the Lady" (donc en gros "viarge"). Ou "gadzooks" vient d'une expression qui signifie en gros "les clous de Dieu [sur la croix]".
