The "additives are bad" thing is really disingenuous, especially the ones that were listed. MSG and disodium guanylate are both glutamates, and disodium inosinate is an inosinic acid, all of which contribute to umami flavours. Malic acid is similar to citric acid, which makes food slightly tangy. Most of these are naturally occurring too. The crystals in parmesan are MSG. Disodium guanylate is found in fish and mushrooms. Malic acid is found in fruit like apples and pears. Just because you don't know what something is doesn't make it bad for you.

Yeah the only ingredient that concerns me at all is the palm oil but not because it's bad for you
@Sindrijo Жыл бұрын
The funniest thing is that she then proceeds to use vegetable stock BUILLON CUBES. The ingredient list for those will usually list those very same things... Here's one for KNORR Vegetable buillion cubes: Ingredients: SALT, MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE, MODIFIED PALM OIL, CORN STARCH, ONION & GARLIC EXTRACT, HYDROGENATED PALM OIL, SUGAR, XANTHAN GUM, DRIED VEGETABLES (TOMATO, CABBAGE), WATER, SPICES, DISODIUM INOSINATE, DISODIUM GUANYLATE, DRIED PARSLEY, CARAMEL COLOUR, TBHQ. CONTAINS: SULPHITES.

Made this for dinner this evening and added some apple to it after it was done cooking. It was very nostalgic - 17 years ago we had a Japanese exchange student stay with us and they made us something very similar that we’ve never been able to replicate on our own - this is the closest we’ve come. Thank you. 💕💕💕
@Carnezu2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea! How much apple, and was it grated or sliced? :)
@andrealoney88272 жыл бұрын
I almost tripled the recipe, and added around 7 apples (green apple) chopped into chunks around half the size of the squash chunks. So maybe around 2 apples or a bit more for a single batch of the recipe? And I didn’t cook the apple - threw it in raw at the end it added a nice crunch!
@Carnezu2 жыл бұрын
Brilliant! Thank you. Looking forward to trying this recipe out with the apple addition

Not that it matters, but have the cutlet rest against the rice at an angle first then pour the curry over it. Presentation is nicer and the submerged half of the cutlet soaks up that delicious curry flavor. Thinly sliced cabbage with a drizzle of sesame dressing goes amazing with this too!
