'Bongo Land' Comment Sparks UKIP Racism Row

A UK Independence Party politician has apologised for saying Britain should not send foreign aid to "bongo bongo land" despite telling Sky News he does not regret using the phrase.
Earlier, Godfrey Bloom refused to repeat the controversial phrase after being rebuked by his party and told to watch his language.
But in an interview with Sky's Sarah Hewson he stood by the sentiment and insisted he had sparked a vital debate about Britain's spending on international aid.

Immigration needs sorting out, sensibly - neither weakly, nor extremely. Once a party decides to do that, they're going to get all types. The opposition will defame you collectively based on that minority of course. You either fear to tackle it and remain free of criticism, which frankly is not good enough, or you tackle it and take the hits as they come as a mark of conviction. UKIP are doing the latter. I'm sick of parties that fear to tread in their own manufactured taboos.

Sorry, immigration control is a debatable idea? Do you mean that immigration control is simply a topic for debate, or the idea of immigration control is debatable as to its validity as a topic for discussion? Not entirely sure which way you're going with it. As for the rest - considering the considerable effort the opposition has gone to, the most they can find is a young lad reaching for a phone and calling it a nazi salute, and bongo bongo, an innocuous phrase. I can't say I'm too worried.

It is a reasonable point. I disagree with it, but it's reasonable. UKIP have taken on candidates too quickly, they admit that themselves. In the rush to provide as many areas as they can with representation, they've undoubtedly absorbed a minority of idiots. It's correctable, and they're working on it. Considering the vast amount of scandals we've forgiven the main parties for, which by that logic also eliminate them from leading this discussion, I'm willing to give UKIP the chance.

I would like to know the names of those Labour councillors but yes, i consider them complicit in racism. Much like the unions used to be full of anti-woman members, they need to be exposed. The problem with UKIP is its not just lower ranks as we see including their treasurer (ex-BNP i heard), theres many examples. I've already stated that immigration is simply something to debate rationally, personally i think its a non-issue but if people want to discuss that among other things i have no objection, but it needs to be done carefully and emphatically, when a group of people start making racial slurs i get to thinking they may be somewhat biased, that party is full of that type of bias, this isn't just one incident, they are not the people to lead that discussion, thats a reasonable point.
