Isn't there a study that shows that men feel unproportionally fast like they are pushed out of a space when in fact they are still the great majority of a community? I think the study was made about jobs and how fast they feel as the minority as soon as women enter 'their' workforce when in reality they are not, but this is just the same thing. 'Not every character looks like me, they want people like me out of this space!'

Not sure about this study in particular, but I have definitely read a study that said men perceive women to be “dominating and monopolising a conversation” if women are speaking for just 30% of the entire conversation, particularly in classroom or professional settings.

Gamers really don't like that there's been a massive cultural shift in terms of representation and honestly just how stuff is handled. I'm a huge fan of the Psychonauts games but oh my god, is the first one extremely "this is from 2005." Does it still make me laugh? Absolutely. Has it aged poorly? Yeah! But double fine worked to make a more sensitive sequel while still being irreverent and funny. Some people don't like it because i don't know, Wokeness, but damn if that wedding vow scene didn't hit (and who doesn't want a fat gay old man played by jack black)

I never trusted Boogie even when he was being touted as “the Mr Rogers of the internet” or whatever. I always thought his whole “I just wish everyone could get along and be nice to each other uwu” shtick was a complete farce, and that what he likely actually meant was “nobody should be mean to me or people like me, but in the case of women and minorities everything is fair game, ~dark humour~ and they just need to be able to take a joke”. Especially when you consider his recorded behaviour outside of his curated videos, tweets etc, such as that classic time on a stream when he laughed at and mocked an ex-girlfriend when she died of cancer. Or the multiple SWers who have said he made them feel incredibly unsafe when he was one of their clients. I do agree with your point about looking to past games with rose tinted glasses. I play a lot of old games and there is a lot of jank. But they were better though. And it’s not because of diversity. It’s because of capitalism. See, every game now is basically the same, safe, graphics first experience. And a lot are truly great. But when the games industry was new there was room for creativity that has been stifled recently. Most great games today are either Sony or Nintendo exclusives that act as loss leaders for the publisher, or remakes/sequels of older great games. Outside of indie games of course. Gamers are SO CLOSE to getting the problem. They hate live service, micro transaction games because a leftist indie journalist by the name of Jim Sterling told them it was bad. Look up the history on this it’s interesting. He really was the first to come out against this stuff. But they didn’t care for his reasons why when he told them. And now they parrot the same talking points he made over decades ago minus the socialism.

Oh there is a game that "lectures the white man" actually. The modern Wolfenstein series? The New Order and New Colossus are some of my favorite story driven shooters, unlike say Farcry 5 which was meant to be about a not too dissimilar xenophobic enemy (christian nationalists) until Ubisoft caved to "cancel culture" by right wingers who caught wind. That being said, it's hard to make a really good piece of art that not only says something but means every word... until youngblood ruined everything T_T

I think one of the things that needs to be talked about more is that these "woke diverse games" can still be low quality for reasons outside of not having white men in it, two different Sweet Baby productions, Sable and Goodbye Volcano High are on two completley opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to writing quality, it really just depends on how much effort is being put in.
