I never knew Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence was a Pulitzer prize winner. I read this for university decades ago, but now you've said that I will pull it off my shelves for my upcoming rereads.

The Age of Innocence is amazing, I am excited to read House of Mirth.

Phew, for a minute there, I was afraid you would get rid of the Stone Diaries! It's really worth to revisit, and I hope you will. And dont waste any time on the Tsitsi Dangerembga... I'm not sure about the Naipaul, I dont like his work but that might be just me.

I definitely want to reread The Stone Diaries but even at $2 I wonder if I should have just gotten it from the library to test the waters. Oh well, it's done!

While you were saying that you didn't know if the John Updike book won the Pulitzer Prize, I noticed that at the top of the front cover it said Pulitzer Prize Winner.

Lol at Little Women. I am such a haterrrrr, that book is super annoying to me. Bleh I hate Olive Kitteridge too...lol. I just feel like she is two completely different people depending on if you are reading from her perspective or from someone else's. And how is it possible for SO MANY bad things to happen to SO MANY people in such a small town? Kudos for you for trying to reread something you didn't like, lol. Dominicana is also unread on my shelves...I will read it eventually. I loved Shuggie Bain, I would read anything that human writes. Incredible.

I love the edition of Little Women. I have other books in the same collections and little women is on my wishlist. I read Dear Senthuran last week after reading Death of Vivek Oji last month (Great Audiobook). They are my favorite new author i discovered this year.

I don't always like tiny books but that Little Women is gorgeous. Thanks for the feedback on Emezi! They're an author I look forward to trying.

If it makes you feel better, the 2nd book in Dangarembga’s Trilogy - The Book of Not - was extremely difficult to find 😊

I've only read Borrowed Time by Paul Monette. I think it would probably be the kind of thing you would like if you haven't already read it.

Haven't read Naipaul's book, but I did just read half a dozen reviews of it--all glowing. Perhaps one of his top five achievements. If you think you might find yourself on a (post) Colonial kick, it might be a keeper. Might help to know some Caribbean, South American, African, British Imperial history. Sounds a bit too niche for me, but that probably wouldn't stop me from paying a dollar for it.

They gave Atwood co-Booker because she should have won the Booker in 1986 for Handmaid's Tale.
@SupposedlyFun3 жыл бұрын
I know she got a Booker for The Blind Assassin but Handmaid's Tale was definitely having a resurgence when Testaments came out.

Having read a lot of Danticat, I think you'll want to read it rather than listen to it. I'm not even sure why I say that.

I've had a sneaking suspicion about that, so thank you for confirming.

You should take a look at the paperback price of Song of the Loon on Amazon.

I recommend doing a Google search for the book and selecting the "shopping" tab. I don't like Amazon as it is and you can find much cheaper copies elsewhere.

I loved Olive Kitteridge but I can see how it wouldn't be the right book for everyone. But if you do decide to reread it, if you haven't see the HBO miniseries and are able to find it, it was terrific. Frances McDormand in the title role was perfect casting. I've read The Testaments and it was good, but no way was it a prize winner. That was clearly the judging committee making a transparent decision NOT based on actual merit but more on....I don't know, her name? I believe she herself has even said she didn't think she should have won and Evaristo should have been the sole winner.
