They actually explain the reason why the Darksaber is heavier than other lightsabers in Star Wars Rebels Season 3. Kanan observed that energy follows through the blade, with the wielder directing its current of power. The wielder's thoughts and actions flow into the Darksaber to fuel this energy, affecting the weight of the blade.

Two Things: 1) When the Dark Saber was referenced to being, "heavy" that's a deep cut to George Lucas explaining that lightsabers are heavy. ( Can't cite specifically when that was said. Film featurette or interview from him but it is documented). 2) Mando's opening scene is the representation of what Boba is trying to avoid, going back to his old life and familiar ways. Mando goes back to bounty hunting, returns to brutality, and then both literally and metaphorically hurts himself by doing so. All because he's lost what changed him, Grogu. Mando returns to his covert believing, 'This is the way' he needs to go and is ultimately rejected. Boba leaves his old ways behind to forsake what he knows and discards the dictation of what others tell him to do. (Calling back to the parallel incident of the Armorer asking Mando if he's taken off his helmet). We see the parallel of how Boba is fighting everything he can to leave the old ways behind. This is opposed to Mando who literally fights with everything he has to run right back into the old dogmatic ways he knows. This opening scene of Mando proves Boba's current philosophical outlook on growing, changing, and continuously developing.

Padame also mentioned that they were heavier than she expected in The Clone Wars. Plus, a lightsaber is an unbalanced weapon by function. What I mean is that unlike real life swords that have a balancing point somewhere on the blade. Lightsabers have their balancing point smack dab in the middle of the hilt more or less. However, that doesn't mean that you have to wield it like it's a damn Buster Sword.

I remember Mark Hamill mentioning that Lucas said a lightsaber was meant to way 40lbs or something ridiculous which is why it takes two hands to wield (and gives significance to Vader fighting one handed). They can't physically weigh that much as they'd be completely unwieldable, but looks like the current lore is if you bond with the lightsaber they get lighter. Plus Kyber crystals are implied to be atleast somewhat aware, so if you don't bond with it, they'll resist and become heavier.

That Halo esque space station was amazing. That's the sort of stuff I want to see more of in Star Wars, we've rarely, if ever seen something akin to space colonies in that universe. Just more stuff about the broader galactic society that the breakneck paced movies couldn't really stop to show. Also the N-1 is such a cool design and I'm so glad they brought it back in such a cool way. The nod to the common held belief (or rationality, admittedly.) that things looked cleaner, slicker, and in some ways maybe more advanced in the prequel trilogy because technology (Thats not the Empire's at least) stagnates during the Imperial rule is even soft supported by it, with its insane speed and capability that takes everyone by surprise. Those scenes of the attempted genocide of the Mandalorian people and Mandalor was stunning and horrifying, with those imperial droids roaming the already scorched landscape looking for survivors to finish off. The Empire's a fun antagonist yeah, but I think scenes like that are important to remind the audience about how horrifying the Empire and everything it represents is supposed to be. I just have nothing bad to say, I've generally enjoyed Book of Boba Fett (especially the Tusken Raiders episodes.) but I can't wait to get back to the Mandalorian, it's just so fresh and I'm so interested to see where its going. I've missed Din almost as much as he misses his tiny gremlin child.

It’s crazy how just seeing Mando show up instantly makes the episode the best yet. I’ve been enjoying this show a lot but I understand why it’s been getting a bit of criticism as it’s nothing like the Mando series and something unexpected for a Boba Fett story as I’m sure people were expecting more of an anti hero story where boba goes on an absolute rampage but I truly like how they followed the Mando story arc of redeeming boba into a good guy and quite enjoy this new boba that isn’t just a bounty hunter but rather a man whom learned what life is like without killing and hunting by the sand people and just wants to rule with honor rather than fear. I think people will come around to really enjoying this show once the finale hits as they seem to building up to something incredibly epic. I haven’t even finished this episode yet and just started but had to comment on how damn excited I am to see Mando back as well as how I already miss grogu :/

I think we might be missing an obvious clue. Boba wasn’t this weak when he helped Mando in season 2. I think Boba has been playing possum (pretending to be weak) to draw out his enemies. You don’t get to be the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy by just being able to shoot stuff. I think Boba will turn out to be a master tactician. The flashbacks not only give us Boba’s back story but show us what he is capable of with next to nothing at his disposal, like planning the train ambush. Episode 5 was awesome and can’t wait for the two part finale and lead in to season 3 of the Mandolorian.

You assume that the show has good writers who think that things making sense and being consistent is a virtue. Very little so far has suggested that that's true. Boba Fett has been a major disappointment after The Mandalorian. Episode 5 is so good because-in spite of everything that you should have expected given the decades of Boba Fett fan service in the Star Wars canon-he's just not a very interesting character anymore compared to Mando. Mando is everything Boba Fett used to be. Boba Fett is literally a completely different person in every respect than the Boba Fett that captivated audiences in 1980. Different actor, different voice, different personality, different situation, and even the armor doesn't look the same. I don't know how they could have taken such an easy, soft-ball pitch and botched it so badly.
@wojurera31312 жыл бұрын
@@spacerx I completely agree on all accounts. People seem to give bad writing excuses by saying their theories and adding their bias of what an awesome character Can be to replace what is, even if it isn't up to par, or realistic. Mando is quite simply Unique, mysterious, awesome, reserved, a true bad azz, what Boba Fett used to be considered originally. Now they made him have a black skirt, weird armor proportions, and a boring character, he's practically unrecognizable to what was in the original series, basically a cosplay.

We've known for ages that The Book of Boba Fett is meant to be Mando Season 2.5, and the whole reason for the show existing is to fill in some blanks and flesh out Boba's character so that stakes are higher in later seasons of The Mandalorian, yet a lot of people still seem confused about this episode featuring Mando exclusively. Did every episode of Game of Thrones feature every main character? When you realise Mandalore = The Iron Throne, the idea of not rushing character development by giving some characters their own "side stories" makes more sense. Anyway, get used to the shows eventually merging more overtly, and being called something different entirely. That's the 'Endgame' if you get my drift.

Upon igniting, Sabine remarks on how the Darksaber feels "heavier than [she] thought," and Jarrus duly explains why. According to the runaway Jedi, the Darksaber is considerably harder to wield than your average lightsaber. Jarrus says, "Energy constantly flows through the crystal. You're not fighting with a simple blade as much as you are directing a current of power. Your thoughts, your actions, they become energy. They flow through the crystal as well, and become a part of the blade." In other words, someone who lacks control and acceptance over their thoughts and feelings - or those with an undisciplined fighting style - will find the Darksaber heavier to hold, as all of that inner baggage channels into the blade, weighing it down.

12:12 I think the blade being heavy for a noob and becoming lighter as skills improve is possibly a link back to do with the initial Lucas conception. I recall an interview after Phantom, where Mark H spoke about how fast the light sabre action was and how in New Hope, Lucas had told him that the sabre was supposed to be heavy like an old style broadsword. So it would make sense to suggest that initially for Luke it was heavy and difficult to wield until he focused on the enemy/improved as a Jedi that it became lighter for him, and so same would apply to Mando.

i believe the reason darksaber feels heavier and he is "fighting the blade" is explained elsewhere: the energy inside the crystal and the blade moves as long as it's turned on and the wielder must somewhat be aligned(?) with it or be at peace with oneself. Since Din Djarin is obviously isn't at peace bc of losing The Way and Grogu etc he can't properly wield it.

I feel like Mando is fighting against the blade and weight it carries as he feels not ready for the responsibility it weighs that comes with it. As well he does not feel ready not worthy of it in sense I feel like that is the case. His separation with Grogu also adds to this because part of him feels that he should not have parted with him since he felt attached to him. Also nice that rectify information that when Sabine gave the blade Bo-Katan Kryze it was like a curse as it was not won in combat.

Good find! I also had the feeling that she wasn't just kicking Din out for no reason at all. Din's mind is clearly pre-occupied with other things. And he won't come to terms with them by staying with the Watch, such as it is. So she sends him away.

Sorry this will be a bit long. I posted a theory on your channel after the end of Mandalorian season 2 about the dark saber and i think this helps with it. I said that Bo Katan was not mad about not having the Dark Saber but concerned. She was given the Saber by Sabine to lead mandalor since Sabine was not ready to take the mantle after her fall out with her family and others over the duchess. She had earned back her honor and acceptance from her family and other Mandalorians. She gives the Saber to Bo Katan because she herself was unwilling or not ready to take the role of leader how ever with her actions in destroying the Duchess and during the final years of the rebellion. She however can not become the leader because Moff Giedion had the Saber. Unlike others in the past in accordance with the Armorers words the saber was not won from Bo Katan it was taken by Giedion. Even though Giedion didn't win the Saber Din Jarin did win it from him and retained it in a duel against Paz Vizsla. Vizsla has made claim to ownership to the saber since his ancestor created it and other formed death watch and until he picked up the dark saber he was beating Din jarin in the duel. The Armorer probably got suspicious of Din Jarin after he still wanted to see Grogu an he met with Bo Katan. I don't know if they are setting up a redemption line for Din Jarin with the waters in the caves i think with all of the hate she was giving to Bo Katan she is staking claim to the direction of the Mandalorian people either very Hardcore like the watch or more main stream like Bo Katan. So I think now there are 3 flawed but legitimate claims to the dark saber. Vizsla's ancestors made the dark saber and re created death watch so he has an ancestral claim since jedi can not have children and no other mandalorians became jedi the sabers ownership goes to him. Din Jarin has a claim that even though Giedion did not win the saber from Bo Katan Din Jarin still won it in combat and defended it in a duel so by the armorers story he has combat claim of it. Finally sabine has claim to it. Even though she found the saber and didn't win it Maul was dead and thus she could not win it from him. Bo Katan in Clone wars also said that Mandalor would not be ruled by an outsider so even though maul won it he was not recognized by all death watch and mandalorians as the rightful ruler. Sabine found it trained with it destroyed the dutches with it and united multiple factions of mandalorians with it but she was not ready or willing to take it and gave it to Bo Katan. So the three of them all have a claim to the saber and this could end with a 3 way duel for the saber Sabine vs Din Jarin vs Vizsla. I origonly said the beskar spear would play a roll but with it being melted down maybe not. but grogu is so small that I dont know if all of the beskar in the spear was used in the armorer or if some was saved. If the armorer save some and forged a retractible blade like the one Vizsla used in the duel that he could mount on his armor he could use it in the duel to injure sabine. In that process it breaks off or the that part of the armor is damaged or falls off just when Vizsla goes in to kill Din Jarin Sabine kills him with it like howland reed in GOT to Arthur Dane. She then would show Jin Darin mercy who would then bend the knee to sabine whould become the new ruler of Mandalor

I agree that this is one of my favorites of this series. I will share with you what I shared in another post understanding I do realize that I am writing at the last min, but I am guessing/predicting following as I am patiently waiting for the next episode to release. In respect to the fact that Dig is having so many troubles “wielding the sword” that unexpectedly as he visits Grogu he is going to receive some lightsaber 101 tips from Luke. Then if his troubles continue, I am also wondering if this could be a prelude to Grogu evolving into becoming the next, Tarre Vizsla? As a side note, I read somewhere (I apologize that I am not able to sight the source at this moment) that this could also be an opportunity for Dig to save and/or protect Grogu from Kylo Ren. To your point let’s take it with a grain of salt. Moving on, what confused me and maybe soured me about this episode was how the beskar spear was melted down and destroyed. Somewhere, somehow in my mind, I was under the belief that the Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth, received it from Grand Admiral Thrawn. Being as the admiral is a collector and admire of cultural relics there must be some underlining Mandalorian significance to the beskar spear. So, I did not like how this act was so simply dismissed. Unless Dig’s clan matriarch i.e., the Armor knows more than she is saying? Which would support the idea that we should seeing more form her. Thank you.

Treadwell has shown up with Peli Motto in previous Mandalorian eps, but many also know him from a deleted scene in A New Hope. "C'mon Treadwell!" The R5 unit, of course, was initially selected by Owen Lars but a bad motivator made him pick our plucky protagonist R2-D2 as a replacement. Others have already noted the “cryogenic density combustion booster” stolen from the Pykes was used, unsuccessfully, in ANH to bar the trash compactor.

They just low key hinted at explaining the physics debate over lightsabers. The heavier weight displayed by the dark saber might be specific to it especially when compared to other non force wielders using light sabers. But the debate has always been over how a weapon made of pure light is portrayed cinematically as if it has weight when it shouldn't. So now they could go in the direction of explaining some kind of meta rules for light saber physics. I'm not sure if they've ever had a non force user create a lightsaber but it is possible that the force imbued into the crystal gives it some kind of inherent ability to feel heavy and clunky if the mind isn't clear or if you are not in tune with it as an extension of oneself. It's possible to at least contribute to why Jedi always say to clear the mind in scenes involving lightsaber combat. I had previously assumed it had to do with being able to hear the internal connection to the force or so that with a calm mind they could interpret the sort of split second foresight of force users. I always thought the fighting styles used to portray force user combat displayed a sense of obvious choreography and that made for a great explanation of that split second precognition.
