Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 22 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

Someone in my office forced a book on me saying "It's was amazing & I know how you love to read. You'll love this." And maybe it was a superb historical/mystery/romance, but it was not for me. And I usually have books in mind (a kind of mental tbr). Anyway, 2 weeks later I returned the book to her desk with a note saying that I really enjoyed it & thanked her for lending it to me. Luckily she is the type of person who once she starts talking, she goes on & on. I was able to do a lot of nodding, and 'oh yeah-ing' to get throught our "discussion of the book". I'm a monster.

at my primary school we had bookshelves in each class for reading during breaks and stuff but i was always allowed to take books home after school because i would always finish the book and bring it back the next day, however i was also a very forgetful child and collected a pretty big pile of books that i had forgotten to take back and then at some point just been too embarrassed to return and decided to just hide them forever 🥴

For years, I lied about having read the Harry Potter series to my friends. I got by fine because I'd seen the films so I knew the major stuff. Then two years ago, I finally read all the books and my brain broke in half because they were sooooo insanely good and beautiful and magical. I couldn't stop talking about them and all my friends were like "Yeah cool but you knew how good they were for years why are you talking them up so much all of a sudden". I just ha dto shut up unless I wanted to admit that I had been lying to their face for ages.

About trying not to read ahead to find out what will happen: That happened to me with the last Harry Potter book. I'm in the habit of looking at a book's pagecount before I start reading it. So I looked for it, my eyes went up... and landed on the last sentence, which is like the most revealing sentence ever. Yeah. And regarding missing important stuff because of a book: I once almost missed the bus to a school trip because I was so engrossed in my reading. Luckily my teacher noticed. That would have been an unpleasant surprise, lol.

Here's my philosophy on loaning books: You don't loan out things you're not okay with never seeing again. I say this both from the never seeing a book again side and the never gave a book back side. Life happens, in weird and wonderful and often chaotic ways. (Honestly, goes for more than books.) Speaking as someone who stole some library books once upon a time, it really comes down to where you live, how religious your parents/family/friends are, and if you have any personal disposable income. At least this was the case for me and anyone else I've talked to who also stole a library book or two in their day.

Fun anecdote. I often stay awake to read a bit more, but I usually stop before 2 am, 4 am tops if it's THAT good or if I'm THAT BAD into it but I always stop, because I only want to continue if I feel like the good is GREAT, but at the same time reading such a great book while completely exhausted feels like a waste, so I always end up putting the book down. Always except once. The only book I pulled an all-nighter to finish was actually 1984. SPOILERS AHEAD. I used to read until especially far into the night, back then (often 2 am), because I was quite depressed and reading has always been my #1 coping mechanism. But that night, after the fateful moment where they go and seek out O'brien to join the rebellion, I felt like I had to continue... And after they got arrested I simply could not put the book down. Because I was too anxious at first, then because I was too scared of dreaming about what I'd just read. I ended up curled up in bed, crying. Then I wasted time until I felt calm enough to sleep. Bittersweet memory for sure !... But in the end, if my experience means anything I guess it's actually kind of a good sign if you've never pulled a reading all-nighter yourself ? :D

Not a huge reader but lemme play the game too: -I don't skim. I just put it down. -pretty sure I never spilled anything on a book -I look up spoilers before I start reading. When I'm not invested yet. -Sometimes I read the last line of the book but otherwise, no. -I used to throw the books that had those prince charming fairytales because I couldn't take the damsels on distress -Yeah I leave them on the shelf -Same as Leo -I once read the second volume of Assasination Classroom and forgot to go to PE class. The teacher was amused once she saw I actually had a comic book in my bag -I never broke spines purposefully -Hasn't happened to me yet -Nope -I DNF books all the time. ADHD makes it hard to keep doing things and finish tasks -Yeah... -I happened several times, actually haha -I might've done this but not sure -Nope, I have no idea what HP is about -I have no idea who that is -I haven't Instagram: -Nope -There is one book which I haven't managed to give back yet. -Same as Leo -It happened to me because some series don't have the number on it, and I have too look up which number in the series it is, and sometimes it's confusing to me, so yeah *looks at Throne of Glass* -I do this -I think I might try doing this -Idk -I have... I have done this... -I have... I have done this... -Yeah, I DNF a lot -Nah -I stayed up all nigh to rea a short story online -I think? -Nah -I'm not that lucky -No, I don't have the money to do that -Ok, I actually haven't read anything that was required for HS so... I guess I actually have lied about what I read -Nah -Yes, I have lied about it, for school -No -No -I think I have -Yes, I have -No -I think I have? -NOOOOOOOO MY SOCIAL ANXIETY WILL KILL ME -Non -I have... I do... -No -I might've done it as a kid? -I think I have? -No. That's a lot of money -I don't think so?

I have a couple of bookish confessions.. firstly, I own multiple copies of several of my favorite books (not so bad), and secondly I judge people a lot based off of what they read/like. Now that sounds kind of bad but I don’t actually think it’s that terrible (queue self justification) but judgment isn’t always negative, most of the time I don’t voice my judgments, and I think you can actually learn a lot about someone based off of the books they read, for good or ill 🙃

queen the not remembering answers to questions on your oral exam because you read the book too long ago 😩😭 i felt your pain and suffering when you said that. i'm outraged and it didn't even happen to me.

I was at a psychiatric inpatient ward a year and a half ago. I got invested in All the Lights We Cannot See that I borrowed from their bookshelf (it's a hard copy too!). When I got discharged I packed it into my duffle out of spite and it still sits on my bookshelf today :)))

Probably the only kind of "stealing from a library" that feels like a kind of justice.

i have difficulty DNFing books also. I skim the middle section then read the last two chapters and call it good.

The only time I threw a book across the room was when I finished Insurgent. I didn't like the Divergent books all that much anyways, but that ending felt like I was robbed of the time and energy I put into reading them. Still mad about it and it's been like 6 years or something haha. And about lying about having read a book. I never read the book that we needed to analyze for our A-levels aside from the bits and pieces we discussed in class. I ended up getting the best mark in the final exams in my whole grade anyways. It was the biggest achievement for my lazy ass ever.

Ive always read required reading for school however this year the High school I go to is having the underclassmen read "The Clockwork Orange" and I- Just why? That's to much for some adults what makes you think hormonal teens are gonna receive it well?

I’ve actually bought the second or third book in a series before the first one multiple times, but it’s always been by accident. Sometimes books don’t clearly label that it’s a part of a series, so then I get home to start reading it, realize it’s not book 1, scream in frustration, and then go back out to get book 1. This has happened more times than I’d like to admit 😂

I possess a book that was borrowed from a library by my dad in 1970 and never returned. Also, my mom is a retired librarian and she read everything from her library, or at least skimmed it.

I was totally jumpimg over POVs in Game of Thrones. The plots were so far away from each other, that I knew I won't overlook anything important. So I often read next Dany or Arya chapters, instead of whatever was supposed to be next. I was going back tough eventually.
