I do love the Vampire Academy Series.... but more for Rose and Demetri interactions and storyline rather than the whole vampire aspect of the book. It does get better as the series goes on it and it always pulls me in every time I reread them. The last one is by far my favorite in the series.

I am definitely going to read Percy Jackson now. I'm thinking of reading the entire series in May. I like to do Mythology May as a TBR theme in Mays.

Also if you liked the Scalzi, since you're watching Star Trek now, you simply must read Redshirts. He based it on his own TV screenwriting. It's a hoot but also a darned good sci fi yarn !

I loooooooved Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and it made me feel all the things... ALL THE THINGS! I loved Sadie, and it drove me crazy how often nobody seemed to see what was happening for her. Ugh, SUCH a good book!

Lockwood and Co series is so good, each book is better than the last :) Percy Jackson series, book gold. the sequels are great too, highly recommend them :)

I've read Richelle Mead's Georgia Kincaid/Succubus Blues series, which is very much not a YA series and really enjoyed it. And Mary Shelley definitely made Frankenstein for the family. It's one of my favorite novels for a lot of good reasons.

i agree that VA is a book if it’s time… and re-reading it last year made me realize how young rose is (but so was i when it came out)… buy do hive it a chace, the series does get better… and BOY OH BOY! the spin-off is so much better but you have to have read all of VA to get it but bloodlines is INCREDIBLE!

I just finished rereading the Vampire Academy series. If you get through book 3, you’ll be hooked to the end of the series. But yes, it’s sooooo immature and angsty. Mead has 2 other adult series that I like a lot more.

Concerning The Murderbot Diaries: I love them. But that doesn't mean they are for everyone. There are elements I think you would enjoy as the series goes on (there's a great friendship arc with another non-human computer intelligence), but overall the tone. and the content of the series don't seem to match what you normally gravitate to. Try one more, but books aren't meant to be loved by everyone, and that's okay.

OK I could talk at length about the Vampire Academy series because I have so many mixed emotions. I read it as a teenager, probably about 15 or 16, and because that's the target demographic, I absolutely loved it and I recommended it all the time. And then last year, as a 20 year old, I reread it and realized how disgusting it is. I was genuinely angered and offended that those kinds of unhealthy age gap power imbalance relationships are shoved on the teenage girls so much so that I thought it was normal as a teenager. Some parts of it I still enjoyed but I was so mad that that relationship was end game instead of Mason or Eddie, who would have been both age appropriate and a better matches personality wise. I still own it because nostalgia and books are expensive but I'm so angry and I will not recommend it to any teenager ever again.

I'll confess to giggling when you said The Kaiju Preservation Society is about a man that... It's never specified what gender the main character is, and I think that is kinda nifty and cleverly done. Scalzi has done that before with at least one other book, where the audiobook come in two versions with one female and one male narrator. As far as I know this one doesn't, but still. Interesting to see which gender one defaults to when it's not specified. :)

A big reason I defaulted to thinking it was about a man was that I listened to it on audiobook and it was read by a male reader.
