I'm not jewish...I'm mixed race English /Jamaican. But i remember watching this as a twelve year old in the late 1980s on the british TV channel ITV......I also remember nearly in fact nearly crying when they escaped against all odds...I didn't realise how evil and cruel the human race was then and now...l never forgot escape from sobibor and hadn't seen it for years.. i've watched this again only in very recent years ...Reading the books and watching the documentaries.. Now i know the full truth behind the real life horrors of sobibor... One of several nazi death camps during World War Two....All of the sobibor survivors have now passed.... The most recent was p.o.w semyon rosenfeld in 2019 ....But their courage and their bravery of the human spirit will never be forgotten...The evils of the Holocaust I pray never happens again...And i hope all of the Nazis directly involved are rotting in hell now....

Am absolutely shocked that they made them pick a fellow prisoner to die with them. These SS were worse than pure evil. They were so daring to escape and to have to kill which went against their faith but this was survival. Thank you for the update on some who survived

This was only camp in Sobibor that fought back and they were all brave women, men and children and how they managed to pull it off without getting caught or put to death. Sobibor is still there after all these years RIP to those six million who didn't make it.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Sobibor’s escape copied other escapes from death camps. Just 8 weeks before the Sobibor uprising 1000 Jews rose up in the Treblinka death camp and set fire to the camp. 200 managed to escape the camp and 100 made it to freedom. There were also uprisings at Auschwitz. You also said how the Sobibor managed to pull it off without getting caught or put to death. That is completely wrong. Many if the escapees were recaptured and shot.

The movie is a Marvel for it's time..and the fact is that survivors did escape and lived on. The inaccuracies can only be how the camp guards were rid of etc etc . These are very minor details when it comes to History.

There's a modern Russian remake of this film and while Russia makes some brilliant war films the remake of this story is not a Mach on this original. It's emphasis on the camp being multi lingual kind of spoils it. I remember as a child watching this on TV in the UK. It shocked me. I was 12 I think.
