Personally my 2021 trek rail is pretty much spot on. Definitely don’t need more power but what I think company’s need to concentrate on is lightness. The new trek fuel is heading in the right direction but if it had the 85nm and new 720 smart Bosch battery whilst still being around 18/19kg now that would be the ultimate bike. I know where a long way off that yet but until then my trusty rail will be staying

this overrun and instant power make a lot of sense on bike, for who search always tricky way uphill. The fact that you can use the power without a complete cranck rotation is the cherry on the cake once you learn to use it: no more pedal strokes on big rocky obstacles!!! Really really interesting!!!!! As usual, great video from you Rob, clear and complete explanations. Ciao!!

The thing that stuck out to me the most is the built in overrun. I have a gen 3 levo in the shop getting a new motor right now because it started having this happen with about 700 miles on the motor. Basically when I stop pedaling the motor continues to pull for a second or 2. On my Levo it's intermittent so I have to always be ready in case it happens and it almost caused a couple of wrecks. While I see the benefits that you laid out, from my experience it's pretty dangerous.
@lozetchells91642 жыл бұрын
I can see the overrun being useful for clearing obstacles without pedal strikes etc, but I can also see it being a recipe for doing a faceplant into a hedge. The Brose on the Spesh does overrun too, but to a lesser extent from what it sounds. I'd be interested to hear if it's any quieter than the last gen, though. The CX is a noisy motor.

This "extended boost/overrun/whatever" has been an option on Specialized since day 1 on the Gen2 motors. You stop pedaling, motor keeps pulling for a bit more (this is tuned via acceleration response I believe, and is also more present in Turbo mode than in others). Also, the 400% assist with minimal rider input is basically Shuttle mode on Specialized. So, presenting all of this as something "revolutionary" just means you haven't been paying attention for a few years?

Just a question Rob, Bosch has solved the performance problems of the performance gen 4 (noises, looseness, system shutdown), because regardless of being a very good engine it is also true that it gives many problems. It should be more robust and watertight since it is designed for competition. The bicycle environment is the only one that does not apply improvements from competition to the amateur sector with the passage of time, only more maintenance costs and less durability.
@lukewalker10512 жыл бұрын
You kind of get it. Oh, don't ask tangible questions which will never be answered. Rob is Bosche's spokesmodel champion. Only a sucker would buy a mountain bike with a Bosch, Brose or Yamaha driveline with CANBUS controller and proprietary battery. Proprietary e-bikes are a mfr money grab. Have to buy their replacement parts and 100% mark up. Batteries are small and suck because they have a 'smart chip' so you can't repair them by replacing bad cells. Don't conflate the term Race with having additional design robustness. It doesn't. This is pure marketing.

This still enables you to ride until you're tired but at certain situations it makes it really blurry to be almost something of an motorcycle. It feels too much. It just feels like a double standard in happening in the emtb motor world where they have placed software tweaks behind a paywall or voided warranties. Its very cynical offering 'new' motors which are nothing more than software tweaks which in the past they have claimed would damage the motor. Why isn't Rob more scornful of this? IMO this is a bad look for eMTB manufacturers, far more brand loyalty/goodwill would be generated if they supported their existing motors by pushing these as free updates too all applicable users.

Rob will be only able to say what Bosch allow him to. All these reviews are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Sorry, but you’re talking absolute rubbish. Bosch have never had anything to do with what I do, or don’t say.

Hi Rob. For people who know how KZbin works may struggle to believe you.

@@RobRidesEMTB Hey sorry Rob. I know you have freedom to express your opinions with no influence from brands. I in no way wished to see your integrity questioned. You helped me in eMTB and I really have a deep appreciation for that. The 'New' motor is interesting in how much they can change the profile of a eMTB with software settings. I just felt the killer questions (that popped into my cynical grumpy mind) weren't asked, yet I understand this a review so maybe that wasn't the time to address wider subject.

Can it be chipped to be derestricted? No point having this motor if your stuck at the pathetic Euro 15.5mph

I see the Pole Voima teased a few times in this video. When will your viewers finally get a full review of the Voima? You will be the first to fully review this bike. There is almost no helpful information or ride impressions anywhere.
