Great review CM. I was considering these but think I will stick with the pin-style connectors for now.

You touched on the bit holding mechanism. My real problem was the pilot bit was slightly loose. This allowed the holesaw to erratically “wobble” around the pilot bit. Er the whole point of a pilot bit is to lock the holesaw in the correct position? Or am I wrong. OK fine, if its just rough work like cutting holes for downlighters etc. My example was an eco high performance front door. These use high thermal insulation board covered by in my terms extremely thick veneer circa 6mm thick white American oak. They look just like traditional solid OAK doors don’t warp, and insulate brilliantly ... at a huge cost I might add. So glad I worried about this enough to do a trial hole in the letterbox slot ... treating it as waste! THANK GOD I DID, THE WOBBLE CREATED A SERIOUSLY CHEWED UP ENTRACE HOLE - appalling look. No idea how the hell you could fix that! So I tried again using a rock solid Pillar drill , same appalling quality hole, tore a truly mangled hole in the veneer!🙈🙈 I dashed out and picked up a Starrett HD arbour, that locked the bit rock solid, and by hand cut a perfect almost polished hole! 🤫 Bosh replaced both arbour and pilot drill, and this one is even more wobbly! WTF! Spec says 7.15mm diam and 6.35mm hex end. Actual dimensions are 6.12mm diam and hex of 6.23mm. Thats enough to make the hold “sloppy”. I will get Bosch to replace this again and see if I get lucky 3rd time. WARNING IF YOU NEED QUALITY, DOUBLE CHECK IF YOUR PILOT BIT IS TIGHT i.e. no movement side to side.

remark : the center drill is blocked once u pop in a hole saw so losing the center drill is normally not an issue when taking out the hole saw for dust removal.

Thank you for this video and for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I found your insight to be very valuable. I wish you had also included information on the Bosch SDS quick-change hole saw adapter. But maybe you hadn't used those at the time. Cheers!

I bought my first set of these around 15 years ago, reason being was that it was one mandrel with a 3/8 hex end for all hole saw sizes, so this would fit into an angle drill for use between floor joists. When the hole saw is in the mandrel, the pilot bit is actually locked in place so avoiding any ‘special situations’. I have never had and threads break off, and as a contractor, these get a lot of use. They do do an adapter with a longer thread for enlarging holes You’re definitely right about the slots in the hole saws though, they are far too small. Diablo (owned by Bosch), have a hole saw kit with the same system, but in the Diablo form, the hole saws are deeper, 2 1/2” vs 1 5/8 and they also have large clear out holes instead of the tiny slots. On the whole, I have got on very well with these for 15 years and many hours of work. On a side note, I do also like the Milwaukee hole-saw in the video :-)

Any tips on where to get that adapter for enlarging holes as I've failed totally in finding one....

Just a question for you. Have you seen the mandrel with the reverse threaded screw so that after you cut your hole you put your drill in reverse, jam the holesaw in the hole and run the drill in reverse to expel the plug. I am amazed that this type of mandrel has not caught on seeing as the removing the plug is what really takes time.

is there an important differences between the power change plus adapter and the old one that dont have words on it and there is no groove in shank?! i am thinking to get the pack of 14 and wonder if there is a compatibility issues with pilot bits in future of adding individuals hole saws sizes?!

I like that long pin style, will be looking for one. The only advantage I see to the quick change is the bits being changeable for piloted holes.

Got it right with going through thick material. The quick release makes you pull out completely aligned else the hole saw pops off and falls into the void

I have a bosch set with the quick connector. I paid 160 dollar like 4 yrs ago. But I alwas have two problems. At the beginning of my drilling,no matter which size I use, the hole saw start wobbling and causes some damage to my wood leaving scratches hard to get rid of. To avoid this I use anothe piece of scrap wood on top. Once the hole saw is in an 1/8" the problem is gone. The other problem is the saw dust get stuck in the teeth and starts to get hot and I take it out clean it put it back in and take it out againg. I do the cleaning every 1/8 of an inch I drill in. That means if I drill on a 1" plywood or a piece o wood,I have to clean it several times. I dont know if you guys have those two problems. Thanks.

Think you hit the same design flaw. Namely the pilot bit, is a tad loose in the Arbour (which some say only gets worse with time), this allows the holesaw to rotate in an erratic pattern and it can, say on veneer, rip and extremely ugly jagged hole in wood. If the pilot bit was a “full” 7.15mm diam and 6.35mm hex. Then this would work fine. Both of mine were 7.12mm diam and 6.23 and 6.26mm hex. Enogh to induce serious “play”! Weirdly how the holesaw hex fits into the Arbour works fine, but thats not actually the really important factor.

By far the best review! I have just been to 6 other reviewers' videos for the hole saws and all those inane guys showed was them blabbering or having beer in their garage...not 1 video had the camera zoomed in on the equipment that was being reviewed...i think the dislikes are from those losers....Great review and video man. Thanks...

I just realized that with the new and improved quick chuck and it's short threads is that if you wish to enlarge a cut whole, you can not stack the smaller hole saw on the thread and the larger hole saw held by the pins. This is something I do to make larger holes for older doorknobs without having to make a jig. Another use for the double holesaw is when I need to enlarge the hole of a ceiling medallion from approximately 3.5 in to 4 in. the smaller holesaw keeps the larger holesaw from wandering, thus making beautiful cut. No need for a jigsaw, as I have seen someone do. the end result looked like a beaver chewed at the whole.

For 15 years I do all kinds of building and renovation works and never thought of that possibility. In my defense, the existing holes are almost never of regular shape and fit my smaller saws. There're some cables which must be preserved. Still I feel ashamed. Have a good day, pasquale.

This is rubbish. Talking about it saying I know that there will of been people that will do this or have done this but no evidence. Don't think he actually even used it before making the video. I have used these for year and there brilliant. The only issue with it that I have found is the ball bearing that holds the pilot in can pop out over time. Meaning you have to replace it. Twice out of 4years + of hard use isn't bad in my opinion. I have used this from 20mm to 127mm holes no issues with the product. I don't understand people that come on a slate a product not providing and evidence of failure. Just a rant that leads no where interesting.
