There is always people like him, that are very passionate (as most people understand it) about what they know and are genuinely happy to do this kind of difficult (or time consuming) jobs just for the fun of it all, imagine trying to do that with a modern car with all the restrictions manufacturers have put in place. If I could put together a car from 0 and be allowed to use it in the road I would probably learn how to do it.
