Also, you can sprint the length of the soccer field and slow jog the width to simulate the up and down heart rate cardio of boxing/combat sports. I heard this from pro champion kickboxer Gabriel Varga.

@jackkebarian6404Ай бұрын
Hey mate. I'm 64 years old. Been an athlete my whole life. Been in gym even longer. Got tired of my routine,ran across one of your videos and started a boxing routine. People in gym think I've been boxing for years. I don't know what the next step is. Boxing gyms are hesitant to let an (old guy) in even though I'm in better shape than most of them. Sounds stupid but I want to get punched in the face and move to next step. Its a great workout, I wish I had a youtube channel to show people how good boxing is for your health and your never too old to start.

hey man, I can totally relate to your story. I am 43 and been training all my life. The more I age, the more I learn about how to train properly. I started self-teaching boxing about 7 years ago. Then decided to join a boxing gym because, as they say, the heavy bag does not throw back. The coach in the gym is focused on training his young fighters and barely pays attention to us older guys. Very frustrating as I am eager to learn and progress. And as you said, I feel in better shape than most of them youngsters. One thing I have learned through those years, is how boxing, bodyweight exercise and (track) running make you a way better all around athlete as opposed to wasting time lifting weights. Been there, done that. I only wish I could tell this story to my younger self. Keep it up, I hope to be like you at 64 ! Much respect.

@Tony_Jeffries intervals themselves is great for getting your wind back, about a decade ago was laid up from a dirt biking accident. When was able I did sprint/walking intervals. Started with thirty paces each and improved immensely with each work out.

Good advise as always Tony. Hey, You trying to kill us? If it doesn't kill us, it will make us stronger 💪, right? Well I'm in my 60s and I still box and I still run. This is what I do. I run the mountain bike trails near where I live. The altitude itself helps my stamina. But even more than that, running off-road on uneven, variable slope terrain with roots and rocks, branches (and occasional snakes) to dodge works great. It improves, cardo, strengthens legs and ankles, improves balance, improves reaction time, improves situational awareness, all at the same time! I do it while punching and I try to run fast but with rhythm and to breath through my nose. A younger boxer asked me, "how can you still move like Sugar Ray Robinson in your 60s?" "Well, I don't know if I could ever move like Sugar Ray but I can move with fluidity" so I told him my secret. Try it out and see for yourself.

The thing I like most about activities such as boxing, cycling, xc skiing is that you can train aeorobic and anerobic quite “easily” once you realize.. On the flip side is what gasses you the most is not training these..

Something i hardly ever see is boxers ( apart from the very top level) use swimming in their training. Its just amazing. Low resistance, can help with any shoulder problems. Just weird to hardly see it

@Tony I think the bottom line is 'listen to your heart' knowing the amount of ground you have to cover. When you say 'run as fast as you can' I think it is confusing. Do you mean sprinting it all out each round ?

Tony - what should recovery heart rate be for me? I'm 65 YO, training Muay Thai, max heart rate around 170 BPM. My "zone 2" (can hold a slightly strained conversation, maintain pace forever...) is about 130 BPM, resting heart rate 50 BPM. Any suggestion? I'm thinking maybe 120? Thanks, great video!

Cardiologist say best is anaerobic training 20- 30 s sprints and 2-4 min rest. 4 sets minimum but something more than 11 sets are perfect to improve really fast. You can google it yourself. I am 46 years old now out of shape and fat. I was and will never be a professional boxer in my weight class because trainers hate training east european immigrants like me. I had the best stamina but nothing helped. In the ring i was helpless Just do some swimming in that system with sprints and rests. You can even record your own voice on your phone its more personal you don t need a app. Now in winter jogging the air cant warm up till it enters into your lungs and you will became sick very fast. For amateur boxing matches 2 min rounds you need just to run/swimm for 30 sec then 1 min rest. That means you go first 30 sec Mike Tyson style then mimic Tyson Fury for a 1 min then go anther time full in 30 sec like Mike Tyson because the points are made in the last 30 sec of the round. Then you have exactly 1 min rest. Thats the rhytm i would train for amateur boxing., allways 30 sec intensive then 1 min rest. You can even train your muscles like that in your favourite gym with a app and some Airpods. A friend of me just lost his belt last WE a lefty with longer arms and superiour anaerobic beat the shit out of him and dropped him in the 5 th round. If you want to hit twice as hard in boxing you need to buy those expensive one pound each running gloves with weight and do that (Cardiologist say best is anaerobic training 20- 30 s sprints and 2-4 min rest). Dont drink coffee, Red Bull and get something to help you sleep well. And forget about weight training, bench press or other activities are garbage for your boxing. Boxing is a anaerobic sport. No excuses or you will be hit. Some learn only about pain, some are using their brain/ wisdom.

I’m sorry but as a track runner and muay thai boxer i don’t see this as the best, this is no where near allowing you to get the best speed endurance you can, it’s better to do fartlek or tempo for endurance, and for speed splitting a set up or getting good rest so you can give a good output is what i am thinking would be better?
