www.myboxingcoa... - Boxing How To Video Guide - Alongside the video, I want to outline some of the benefits of slipping punches. Slipping punches is one of those boxing techniques that offers a world of opportunity in terms of capitalizing on the openings created. By definition, when you as a boxer successfully slip a shot, you are within range to land any of a battery of your own shots. By continually slipping punches, ducking punches and rolling (or bobbing and weaving) during a boxing match, it has the effect of making it very difficult for an opponent to target your head and also acts as a feint or diversion, which applies a constant level of pressure to the opponent during the contest.
It would be easy to consider slipping punches to be a reaction to a shot, as opposed to a proactive measure to control an opponent. It's very unwise to wait for a shot to come in order to effectively slip it. Unless your opponent has ludicrously slow hand speed, then the laws of physics are very much against you! Slipping punches should be used in conjunction with other skill elements, this approach will maximise the successes generated.
When referring to slipping punches, I talk about slipping 'inside' and slipping 'outside'. Slipping inside means that the body is shifted to the left of an oncoming straight shot (slips are a most effective defense against straight punches and uppercuts, although because of the slight drop in head height slips also offer some protection against hooks). Conversely, we consider slipping 'outside' to be shifting the body to the right of an oncoming jab. For more information, visit www.myboxingcoa...

I taught my nephew this Tyson slipping from day one they just get better every day you just start off slow than you speed it up as he advances. He won Ringside world title, Desert Show Down, National PAL Jr Olympic National Champion and was About to win the National Golden Gloves when he dislocated his shoulder. Hector Luna can be seen on KZbin. He would have beat Raushee Warren and Joesph Diaz had he not had the injury in 2009 all these titles were accomplish with 48 Amateur bouts

To be honest, when I watch a boxing match, I rarely see boxers slipping punches. It's like they were never taught how to do it. Most will just put up their gloves and absorb the punch, if they're lucky. I wonder, "What the hell, weren't they taught how to slip a punch or what?" What do you have to say about this? I actually love your coaching.

@MrDJKushman It varies. If you are a competing boxer then you should run in cycles. Early in your training program, longer, slower runs. As you move through your training program and closer to optimal fight fitness, shorter, faster runs with lots of sprint work are the order of the day. Hope this helps

@yeasayer if you slip inside of a jab, you are vunerable to a right hand. if you slip outside you are safe. but slipping inside can offer alot of counter punching choices. outside slips are better especially if you have a nice jab. but for example tyson would inside slip alot to get in side and follow up with a 1-2-3, and other combos. i do both

I have got hit badly in sparring today, and my plan is to master this slipping technique as it looks very good defence and you can even use it to prepare for a good attack. I am really angry as I got punched really badly but I was so slow to slip it, I think reputation is going to make me faster in this??? I will train every day early morning slipping until I am happy about it.

Is there some kind of general rule about slipping inside when your opponent throws a straight and slipping outside when it is a jab? Or, if there isn't, then how do you know which way it is best to go (other than avoiding the shot, obviously)?

Great video i learned something from it !! but i have a question: when someone throws a jab or a cross at me(even hooks) i tend not only to move my body but i actually make a little step, is it a bad habit? because i get a lot more stable that way. its not a big step, when i slip to the left it tend to be a 15cm step with my left foot to the left. and when its with my right foot it tend to be a 15cm step to the right.

So many guys slip while dropping the hand!! A lot of pros. I'm sure they have that attitude where they assume a punch won't land at that moment. Head movement has to be the toughest skill to master. Would you try to master inside and outside slips before rolling?
@myboxingcoach
@myboxingcoach 8 жыл бұрын
+William Stage Good points William. Yes I would seek to master slipping first for 2 reasons 1) they are less complex and 2) the slip is actually the 1st part of the roll, so once you master it you've half-mastered the roll...if that makes sense?
