www.myboxingcoach.com - Boxing How To Video Guide - Alongside the video, I want to outline some of the benefits of slipping punches. Slipping punches is one of those boxing techniques that offers a world of opportunity in terms of capitalizing on the openings created. By definition, when you as a boxer successfully slip a shot, you are within range to land any of a battery of your own shots. By continually slipping punches, ducking punches and rolling (or bobbing and weaving) during a boxing match, it has the effect of making it very difficult for an opponent to target your head and also acts as a feint or diversion, which applies a constant level of pressure to the opponent during the contest.
It would be easy to consider slipping punches to be a reaction to a shot, as opposed to a proactive measure to control an opponent. It's very unwise to wait for a shot to come in order to effectively slip it. Unless your opponent has ludicrously slow hand speed, then the laws of physics are very much against you! Slipping punches should be used in conjunction with other skill elements, this approach will maximise the successes generated.
When referring to slipping punches, I talk about slipping 'inside' and slipping 'outside'. Slipping inside means that the body is shifted to the left of an oncoming straight shot (slips are a most effective defense against straight punches and uppercuts, although because of the slight drop in head height slips also offer some protection against hooks). Conversely, we consider slipping 'outside' to be shifting the body to the right of an oncoming jab. For more information, visit www.myboxingcoach.com/body-mov...

I loved the explanation and details given in your video. I thank people like you who are able to not only teach but show respect for the sport. In addition, I have noticed that you have replied to many comments posted on your videos and to me that shows respect for your followers and that you care about them. Keep it up!

I grew up learning martial art from my late grandpa he encouraged me to join different seminars and training to develop my fighting for defense.. But when I started watching boxing videos, especially the fight of Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire few years ago ( 2018 ) I literally love boxing by progress. Way back, I fought in street like The late Bruce Lee, but now I can 40% punch and slip like a true boxer.. hehehe as of now, I enjoyed watching tutorials from Sir Fran Sands and Precision striking . They have the best boxing guidance for a begginer like me.. I'm 25years old now :)

Love this stuff! Too many coaches concentrate on blocking or parrying with the gloves, even counting on the glove size to protect their heads during slips or ducks, but that strategy goes to hell in an MMA fight. Glad to see some advice I can actually use :) Keep up the good work, coach

Specifically speaking for the outside slip, I've never seen such technique until I saw it at you. It seems different, feels different. But I will master this technique since it allows the defender to counter punch more efficiently as it remains waist lean. thanks for all the informative stuff you do.

@AngelofHat Thanks for the comment. I can't really comment on whether a 'sweep' would be the end of a fight (I assume this is a kick boxing move and I'm a boxing coach.) On the other 'constant movement' point, I think that the slip along with ducking and 'rolling' all put together would constitute 'constant movement'. I'm demonstrating here a single skill element of 'slipping'. Putting all of this stuff together is the art form! Thanks very much for the comment and check out the site!

This is a very good video! those slips are very effective when used appropiately. I have noticed that most fighters last throughout their career and beyond by following the proper techniques..Those who "sho-boat" so to speak, end up feeling the after affects!

@OMGitsHYUN Hey. It sounds like you might be rotating your hips without allowing the back leg to bend enough. Focus on that back leg to ensure that your head is taken to the right slightly. Hope this helps!

@Homeruler99 Good to hear from you again. I suppose the question is more about the alternative that you have been shown. When performed at competition speed, this slip is very fast, and there really isn't that much movement. This method also allows you to provide punching threat throughout. Minimizing movement is always good, so if you feel that your coach has shown you a method that is more effective when all of the benefits and risks are considered, then go with that. Thanks mate.

@slugfestdude Either really, you'll be able to counter just as effectively to the left or right, and ultimately making him miss is about making him pay. If I had to choose, it would be left as you can then counter the opening in the guard with a left hook. Hope this helps.

@MrDJKushman It varies. If you are a competing boxer then you should run in cycles. Early in your training program, longer, slower runs. As you move through your training program and closer to optimal fight fitness, shorter, faster runs with lots of sprint work are the order of the day. Hope this helps

@Homeruler99 Hey mate. Think about where your weight has been distributed when slipping outside; the back leg. this means that you have extra leverage for your (orthodox) right hand. Try combining the slip with the right cross or the long range right hook (starting the shot at the point in the slip where you are across to your right.) ;-) It's all good!
