www.myboxingcoach.com - What are the steps to developing a killer body punching boxing style? How can you maximise the effectiveness of your body assaults?
Truth is, some fighters may have good punch resistance when it comes to taking head shots. However, a well placed body punch can break an opponent, either pretty instantly or over time by draining their endurance.
In this body punching masterclass we are going to answer the following questions:
What are the perfect locations to land your body punches?
How do you target your body punching at long range?
How do you target the body punching at mid and close range?
How do you set up your body punches by going for the head?
How do you create diversions to land your body punches.
Body punching in boxing is both an art and a science. Do it well and it will always give you options.
Cheers
Fran

Hi Fran, firstly I really love your videos, they are unbelievably helpful. I was wondering if you had any advice on how to make an impact kind of thing on your opponent because I am the only girl in my boxing class and so I am kind of assumed to not punch if that makes any sense, so what can I do to land surprise hits and have a strong defence (sorry if this doesn’t make sense) have a nice day

Hi Fran, great video and very lucid explanations. I remember being taken as a young boxer to Tommy Bache's pro gym in Liverpool by my then coach Tony Silvano (now deceased, God rest his soul) and watching and talking with your Dad, being in particular spell bound watching him hitting the double-end bag ( Mr S. called it a "floor-to-ceiling" at the time).

Brilliant vid! I particularly appreciate the sections on the heavy bag where you illustrate each point. Really helpful. Any chance you could do a vid on the right hook in particular? There's lots of stuff out there on the lead hand hook. The right hook feels like a very different movement. My right hook just feels weak. I know it should be my power punch, but I can't seem to get the power in it.

Yeah, bro, nothing hurts like a liver shot. I didn't need to find it, I remember the shockwaves of pain from those shots back in the day. Love to see some good old fashioned boxing coaching from someone who looks prepared to show it on this medium. Even Freddy Roach and Teddy Atlas, as experienced and knowledgeable as they are, are not as enjoyable or informative to watch. Also, kudos on the small details like taking care with your audio and framing in general for your channel.

Man all you'll be doing is hitting rib cage with your finger bone. Only thing that will be hurting is your hand. Go a few more inches lower and hit the liver.

@@jestflow I dunno try digging your knuckle below your armpit just like he said. It doesn’t take much to make it fucking hurt. But, it will be tough to punch someone there. It’s a small target and is usually covered up when someone is in a fighting stance. Might work when you grapple, though.

Hi Fran, I've been struggling with my range and always seem to be seeing if my jab lands before thinking about a combination then getting caught with a counter, should I be stepping in with a combination in mind, eat whatever I eat and just attempt to land what I can or should I wait to try and pick my combos on the fly.

Straights to body are good but for taller boxers (I'm 6'6") it is tough to do a straight when most people are several inches shorter. However, the upper/hook body punch is great with long arms.

Hey Fran love your videos they are great. I have recently gotten back into boxing after 7 years off and am getting the bug again, I have a question for you (or anyone else is welcome too as well ) In regards to getting low I agree this is a weakness I have I noticed in my boxing, during training my coach has showed me a few things that work my problem is that after trying to get low my legs feel weak and it exerts a lot more energy for me and I just feel generally slow and awkward dong it. Is it a matter of running that drill you did on the heavy bag consistently so my muscles get used to the movement? Also What are some other work outs or drills that I should be doing that can strength my legs up so I can do this consistently during sparring.

Hi Fran, watched your videos for years mate, i'm 6ft 3 and box at middleweight, always in with shorter guys and struggle to drop to deliver the left to the body from orthodox stance sparring and pads, should I just focus on other stuff e.g using reach and stay outside or whats the best way to train that so i've got it, great tips in this video watching while typing this.
@jsikke
@jsikke 2 жыл бұрын
Not meaning to answer for Fran but I believe he already covered this - you drop down ("that why god gave us knees"). I find that when I drop down to throw level punches, they oftentimes take shorter opponents by surprise. I believe that most taller guys (I'm 6'4") use their size to intimidate and don't master the crouch. Going back to a full stand also gives you additional power from your legs for follow-up punches.
@mritchie85
@mritchie85 2 жыл бұрын
@@jsikke Nice one mate thanks for that, never looked at it from the "surprise" point of view, might be worth while for me to keep at it to have that unpredictability as people expect a certain style from a taller lanky guy at the weight, cheers for reply

@jsikke
@jsikke Жыл бұрын
@@Lapolitics The only thing changing in your stance is your height, you're bending your knees to lower your height. Your guard stays the same. Stand normally, then bend your knees to drop down 6". That's it. You'll also find that your punches (against a shorter opponent) are going straight instead of punching down, so you can get more power. You may lose some movement (L-R) but the drop can be temporary. You don't crouch the entire time. If your opponent sees your drop as telegraphing that a punch is coming, you can also use it as a feint.

you need to shift your weight to your back foot when you jab to the body, and front foot when you throw a straight to the body. your kinda doing a 50/50 thing therefore you dont get any power in the punch and you also dont get your head off the line while doing it.

Love your videos Fran always interesting. I think people growing up watching Ali like me never really considered body punches as he rarely threw them. It wouldn't have suited his style as he didn't want to plant his feet and his feet were his defence too as his hands were down until he got older and couldn't dance anymore. The greats seem to be able to break all the fundamental basics of boxing. I suppose if we were all as good looking as him there would be no inside fighting 😅. Keep up the great work your boxing students are lucky to have a coach like yourself .
