From what I think, I think it's because people kept telling him that by being this way, hes hating this parents and is building up anger from his parents when that isnt true. He loves them both so much but cant control the way he is. Sometimes anger just comes out from one person and because it's so pent up, he explodes. Its not because of someone in our lives who just wanna help in a detrimental way. But that's just what I think.

I was married to a gay man who wanted nothing more than to be straight. The extent our church went to in order to "pray the gay away" was disgusting. Nothing "Godly" about the bullshit they spewed. He is still my absolute soul mate and nothing makes me happier than when he and his partner bring their two adopted children over for family dinners. The church set him and myself up for so much pain. It hurt like hell when I knew I had to let him be who is was/is but after some time to heal I wouldn't trade our new dynamic for the world.

Nicole Moana First of all, you are a great person and I wish more Christians were like you. Second of all, the Bible is full of extremely backwards and cruel ideas, like the hatred of homosexuality, and on top of that, it's full of contradictions and was written by multiple authors hundreds of years after the alleged events occurred. Many former Christians like myself have come to the conclusion that it's all made up. I don't want to pressure you but I highly encourage you to question your beliefs, the fact that you don't think homosexuality is wrong means you already are to some degree.

If you rewatch the movie and pay close attention you will see photos of members, in the hall of the conversion place, who are supposedly "ex-gay." Meaning that the movie implied that the pastor "used to be gay," including all the employees at the therapy place. The leutenant guy even says "that your teachers have overcome." Referring to homosexuality. I watched the film about 7x already 😁

He told me that if I ever wanted “to come back“ that he would be waiting for me with open arms. But I told him I hadn’t gone anywhere. I was still the good son, still the loving big brother. I was raised a catholic because of my family but I don't feel identified with it anymore, it's been years since I decided to believe in love, that's my only religion. If you believe in love you have the power of faith without the double moral standards, without the judgement, without the bullshit of religion! Catholicism needs to explain lots of things before they can point fingers and talk about love. From the persecution and atrocities of the inquisition up to the atrocities of these days. Like the hush hush approach towards pedophiles in the clergy and lots of other things. Lots of explaining to do!! So I pass...

As a believer and a out gay man (I'm currently 25 years old) I first saw this when I was 23 years old. A friend at my church actually told me to watch this. It brought me to tears. I'm very lucky that although I lost my church I went to when I came out, a lot of friends. I didn't lose my faith. I was lucky to have found a place to call my home spiritually. @@MorgaineLionett Any state, condition or practice that goes against nature and scripture, "He created male and female" is an indication that something has gone wrong. So, no matter what name you choose to apply doesn’t negate this fact. In conclusion you need to know that God never intended for men to lay with each other and attempt to have sex in some unnatural way. Unfortunately, he’s given us the freedom to choose so therefore we feel whatever we choose must be right or whatever we feel must be right. Nothing could be further from the truth. Truth is not based on our psychological beliefs, emotional state or circumstances. Truth is based on the spoken and written word of God which again you can choose to believe or disbelieve.

@@inneedofchangenow He also created women to be servants to men. I don't see you complaining about gender equality. God didn't intend for technology to exist, and you don't complain about that either. And I have another little something for you: Paul says in one of his letters that "a woman shall not assume authority over a man. She is to remain quiet." Paul states that women, like you, have no right to educate (though you try to educate me about untrue things) men, like me. I'd you want to bring the Bible into this, please do it all the way, or not at all. Also I don't believe that God has a problem with homosexuality, based on my own studies on the matter.

Christians: "God loves all" Also Christians: "God cannot love you if you are gay"
@ForumLight
@ForumLight 6 жыл бұрын
God loves all means He's willing to forgive those who sincerely want forgiveness (which means they will seek to deny themselves and deny their sin nature and follow Him). God doesn't instead ignore someone spitting on that forgiveness, refuse to stop sinning, and say "sin all you want, it doesn't matter". It's why He went to the cross. If we reject that forgiveness because we want to live in sins of any kind, we'll be facing God not only for judgment for our actions, but for refusing His offer to forgive and forget. Please read the gospels again and forget what anyone else has "told" you it says. Eternity depends upon it.
@DanielSmith-ou7es
@DanielSmith-ou7es 5 жыл бұрын
Those who know Scripture,know that God does not love all...He loves His own.He doesn't cast sin into Hell,He casts sinners into Hell.He cannot love sin,or sinners.No where in Scripture does it say this.God in His infinite mercy,made a way for sinners to be reconciled to God,through the sacrifice of His only Son,Jesus Christ.Most "Christians" don't read their Bibles or they wouldn't be spewing out false teachings.God is righteous and holy and cannot look upon our sin.But He is merciful and made a way.One Way,through Christ.Repent means to turn from your sin.And yes,if someone is truly grieved over their sin,ALL sin,they can,through the work of Christ in them,be delivered from sin.He is enough.He is able to do what no man can do.

@@Noa...... Although it will not make anyone believe, these are things that prove God is real, that the Bible is divinely inspired, and that we will be without excuse when we face Him to give account for our lifetime of breaking His laws *AND* refusing to be forgiven for it: The Bible is the only 'religious' book that dares to make prophecies, almost 2,000 that have come true after the fact of them being written down, even up to thousands of years later, proving it's divine origin. Easily searchable. Although it is not a science textbook, there are dozens of facts about reality in the Bible that scientists didn't and couldn't figure out until hundreds and thousands of years later, up to the 1890's, also proving its divine origin. Easily searchable. All religious texts were written in one lifetime by one person - the Bible was written over 1,500 years through 40 people and reads as one mind. The grave of all false religions' prophets has their bones - the grave of Christ is empty - although they're desperately trying to find it to try discrediting Christianity. You can_kill thousands in the name of a false religion like islam, and people of that country will bend over backwards to help you build a church where you did it. You dare mention Christ, hand out a tract, and you're met with the utmost hatred. As Jesus said: John 15.18-19 *"[Jesus said]If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."* People who profess faith in Christ have major changes instantly from the inside out that they were unable to overcome over a lifetime. It won't really make people believe who need to reject the truth of God, but we know all we need to know. The world seeks to keep us blind to the truth of God. When we face Him, it won't work to say "well how was I supposed to know?" We know all we need to know and will be without excuse. I implore people to re-read the gospels yet again and forget what anyone or any book or any church claims it says. Judgment is coming for us all for breaking God's laws - crimes against God - and refusing His offer to forgive and forget in the person of Jesus Christ. Forgiveness is through Christ Jesus, not through a religion that says we must do what they say to get forgiveness from Christ.

Coming out is the single hardest thing I've ever had to do. My family is still healing from it. And yet, I can also tell you that living in the closet, there is never a point that you "make it." Because I was in the closet, I sealed off huge parts of who I was from my family for 33 years, and as a result, I have, and continue to have, many difficulties connecting with people emotionally. Coming out does not make life better, nor does it magically solve all of life's problems. However, when I finally did come out to my family, despite the hardship, despite the heartbreak, despite the pain, tears, and distress, I also witnessed more love than I ever believed possible. My coming out brought my family closer. It doesn't make the 33 years of living in the closet worth it, but it has proven to me that my family is stronger than I ever gave it credit. I can't promise that you won't lose your family by coming out. However, you will always resent them in your heart for your choice, and your family will never truly be at peace with you when you keep such a huge part of your identity from them. No one can make the choice for you, and no one can say what is, and is not worth it. All I can say is that coming out was worth it to me, despite the pain and disruption it caused everyone involved.

@@devinpeirce7152 This question, "why do you feel the need to advertise it," feels like a micro aggression. Maybe it is just ignorance. Coming out isn't about a need to advertise. you shouldn't be mean to your mother and father when you come out to them and they can't accept it right away. You must be understanding of them too. Empathy. The people who scream and yell at their parents for not accepting them are just spoiled rotten (usually white hipster and emo kids from the suburbs. They're always mad about something). I'm gay and do not feel ashamed. I told my family and they had a hard time with it. But I didn't scream and yell and slam doors like some maniac. My mother was a full on Catholic woman and was embarrassed by my gayness (she passed away). Oh well, it is what it is. God made me and that's not a mistake. I'm not a mistake.

I am so fucking lucky to have been born in an accepting family. I was so nervous about coming out because being gay was never really talked about in my family, but when I told my parents that I wanted to ask a girl to homecoming, they were so supportive. I've been out for almost three years to my family (not my extended family since they aren't as accepting) and I really couldn't be happier. I can't imagine what these kids go through when their family isn't supportive and they send them to a conversion therapist. It makes me so mad knowing that there are kids who feel like they have no one to talk to about their sexuality. If you truly loved your child, you would accept them no matter what.

If you believe in Jesus you treat everyone with respect and let God do the judging . If you sit around and judge everyone you are really only hurting your own soul and could end up in hell just for judging . 🤷‍♀️ people who claim to know God and judge people and treat people nasty are disconnected from Jesus and his true teachings .

I've already chosen to move out when I'm 18 bc I can't take it anymore I don't want to hide and lie about who I truly am. It broke me too. As a gay Christian I want to try and change this. I know I might be met with but this is violating our 1st Amendment! Honestly though is forcefully changing someone just because they're gay, etc. really a right? Wouldn't that be violating the victims rights? Now if there are those that volunteer to go to these, than that is a whole different story.

It’s heartbreaking that people use religion as an excuse for discrimination. No religion is supposed to be used for hatred. Not Judaism. Not Catholicism. Not Islam. Religion is a peaceful understanding of the creation of the world and a higher power. It isn’t bigotry and hatred. It’s loving everybody, because that’s how people’s god or gods created people. And they did it that way for a reason. I’m a confirmed catholic but I’m not very religious because I just don’t know what I believe or feel. But religion helps a lot of people, just not this way.

I’m in tears watching this. This movie hits extremely close to home for me. This is how my parents are. I once asked my mom what would happen if me or one of siblings turned out to be lgbtq+ and she said that that child would have to talk to our bishop and tell him why we chose to sin and I asked if that child would be kicked out or sent to therapy...she said yes and this is the reason why I probably won’t ever come out as bi I’m legitimately terrified of her or my dad finding out.

But over the years, I’ve gotten older and my passion for my community couldn’t be pushed back. Fifteen years later, I’m completely out. It’s not perfect, far from it, but I’ve gotten support from people that I never thought I’d get it from. It’s a horrible thing to hide yourself but it won’t last forever. Believe me.

oh my God! Are you kidding? I come from a Catholic latino background and it was very machismo. My mother hated the fact I was gay. They basically told me "it's okay, but we don't want to hear about it". So I found my own community and "family" etc. Never a question from family if I have a boyfriend, etc. When "Love, Simon" came out in the theaters I wanted to go with my sister. She said she didn't want to see that movie. She was tired of always seeing gay characters, and transgender, etc. in movies and television. She said it was being overdone (!!!). Can you imagine?? Meanwhile almost every freakin' movie and television show has a straight couple loving each other and speaking romantically. I'm bombarded with straight couples everywhere and one history making movie (first mainstream big screen movie about a gay teen (Love, Simon)) makes my sister angry. What kind of a double standard is THAT? Am I rambling? Sorry. The point is, just because you're meeting with obstacles (we all are) just keep pushing forward and don't let people get you down, even if they ARE family members.

oh. I'm sorry. It's hard. It's none of my business, but you need to come out when YOU"RE ready not when other people tell you. There are people coming out and re-inventing their lives at 60, 70, 80!!!! When I was only out to my friends and some co-workers I educated myself on LGBTQ his / herstory. So much history out there. Movies like "The Celluloid Closet" (about the history of LGBTQ representation in motion pictures from the dawn of film until 1993 (movie came out in 1993)). Notice how I keep using the word "out". Do they have a LGBTQ Center where you live I found the one in New York City (where I live) quite by accident. How about a Pride Parade? Next year in June 2019 should be a BIG one since it's the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.

I can’t believe this happens in real life. No human being can be fixed,,we all make desicions for ourselves. God loves each an everyone of us no matter our race,sexuality etc. we are all equal and have the choice to do good

Does God hate? If God is love, how can He hate? It might seem a contradiction that a God who is love can also hate. Yet that’s exactly what Bible says is true: God is love (1 John 4:8), and God hates (Hosea 9:15). God’s nature is love-He always does what is best for others-and He hates what is contrary to His nature-He hates what is contrary to love. No one should be surprised to learn that God does hate some things. He created us with the capacity to both love and hate, and we acknowledge that hatred is sometimes justified-we naturally hate things that destroy what we love. This is part of our being created in the image of God. The fact that we are all tainted with sin means that our love and hatred are sometimes misplaced, but the existence of the sin nature does not negate our God-given ability to love and hate. It is no contradiction for a human being to be able to love and hate, and neither is it a contradiction for God to be able to love and hate. When the Bible does speak of God’s hatred, the object of His hatred is sin and wickedness. Among the things God hates are idolatry (Deuteronomy 12:31; 16:22), child sacrifice, sexual perversion (Leviticus 20:1-23), and those who do evil (Psalm 5:4-6; 11:5). Proverbs 6:16-19 lists seven things the Lord hates: pride, lying, murder, evil plots, those who love evil, false witnesses, and troublemakers. Notice that this passage does not include just things that God hates; it includes people as well. The reason is simple: sin cannot be separated from the sinner except by the forgiveness available in Christ alone. God hates lying, yes, but lying always involves a person-a liar-who chooses to lie. God cannot judge the lie without also judging the liar. The Bible clearly teaches that God loves the people of the world (John 3:16). God spared wicked Nineveh, bringing them to repentance (Jonah 3). God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 18:32). He is patient to an extreme, “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). This is all proof of love-God wants what is best for His creation. At the same time, Psalm 5:5 says about God, “You hate all evildoers” (ESV). Psalm 11:5 is even harsher: “The wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.” Before a person repents and believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, he is the enemy of God (Colossians 1:21). Yet, even before he is saved, he is loved by God (Romans 5:8)-i.e., God sacrificed His only begotten Son on his behalf. The question then becomes, what happens to someone who spurns God’s love, refuses to repent, and stubbornly clings to his sin? Answer: God will judge him, because God must judge sin, and that means judging the sinner. These are the “wicked” whom God hates-those who persist in their sin and rebellion, even in the face of the grace and mercy of God in Christ. David writes, “You are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you” (Psalm 5:4, ESV, emphasis added). By contrast, those who take refuge in God will “be glad” and “ever sing for joy” (verse 11). In fact, both Psalm 5 and Psalm 11 draw a stark contrast between the righteous (those who take refuge in God) and the wicked (those who rebel against God). The righteous and the wicked make different choices and have different destinies-one will see the ultimate expression of God’s love, and the other will know the ultimate expression of God’s hatred. We cannot love with a perfect love, nor can we hate with a perfect hatred. But God can both love and hate perfectly, because He is God. God can hate without sinful intent. He can hate the sinner in a perfectly holy way and still lovingly forgive the sinner at the moment of repentance and faith (Malachi 1:3; Revelation 2:6; 2 Peter 3:9). In His love for all, God has sent His Son to be the Savior. The wicked, who are still unforgiven, God hates “for their many sins, for they have rebelled” (Psalm 5:10). But-and this is important to understand-God desires that the wicked repent of their sin and find refuge in Christ. At the moment of saving faith, the wicked sinner is removed from the kingdom of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of love (see Colossians 1:13). All enmity is dissolved, all sin is removed, and all things are made new (see 2 Corinthians 5:17).

I went through this "conversion therapy" as an early teen. While it's a disgusting, bigoted with the backing of religion, joke, I am so happy to know that a story like this is being told. And I'm even more happy that this is becoming illegal so no one else has to suffer this nightmare.
