Bernie kopell appears to be warm. Paul Lynde was HILARIOUS! .

Paul Lynde wasn't even remotely funny, though he was a good enough actor. The funniest people on the show were Dick York, Maurice Evans, and Mabel Albertson. All of the regulars were good or good enough actors, except for fake Darrin (Dick Sargent), who was downright terrible. The best actors were, in no particular order, Dick York, Maurice Evans, Agnes Moorehead, and David White.

Elizabeth Montgomery was the GLUE that held that array of characters together for 8 seasons. They all had their idiosyncratic behaviors. YORK was addicted to opioids and was looped out of his mind half the time (but funny)... MOOREHEAD was a diva who thought being on the show was slumming because she saw herself as a serious Shakespeare actress (but was still fabulous as Endora) MARION LORNE, MAURICE EVANS, ALICE PEARCE, GEORGE TOBIAS were all pros from old Hollywood motion pictures... PAUL LYNDE was a real life alcoholic who was nevertheless hilarious in his sarcastic way... ALICE GHOSTLY also an old Hollywood comedian who was funny. And dozens of guest appearances from legendary Hollywood actors from the 1930's - 1960's that Director William Asher knew from his many years of directing I LOVE LUCY and would come to Bewitched to do Asher a favor. All together the series was a truly brilliant group of the greatest comics and actors of the century

Top rated comedy hands down. Great cast #1 and the best guest stars, story line and superb script, special effects, Elizabeth's nose wiggle magic, and wardrobe. Seems Bernie Koppel and Paul Lynn were great all on there own. Bewitched is forever ❤

Esp. if Dick York was the reason for "Bewitched," he got terminated, after collapsing on the set, that he had to go to the hospital, after he left the episode "Daddy Does His Thing." Before long, he had a history of painkillers and had a problem with his back. He was a good actor, whom we all missed. May York #RIP!

FYI. There is a bio of Paul Lynde here on YT. I think that Lynde was afraid, as were gays back then, of being outed. Back then, that could've meant loss of one's job or jail. Dick Sargent had spoken of this in interviews in the late 80s. There's a 1987 interview where he talks about one of the first cable shows on TNT that he was in. He also did one with Geraldo Rivera with other gay actors. He talked about the pressures of hiding who he was and the suicide issue among gay teens. The problem, LBGTQ people are still being assaulted and killed, along with other groups.

I believe the best way to be accepted is to blend in not force one's lifestyle on anyone. Paul Lynde had a nasty disposition in real life. He was very condescending not afraid.

To get along is to go along, in other words, stay silent, doesn't work. It promotes stress and fear among groups that the majority of society disapprove of. It marginalizes under law as well. In 1969, police raided the Stonewall gay bar in New York City. This happened more than once. The patrons had had enough and they rioted. This is the event that most say that started the LBGTQ movement. With this movement, this community gained some rights in law, but there are those who want to take these rights away, even, some on the Supreme Court. Despite these gains, LBGTQ people are still being targeted verbally and physically. In recent years, multiple mass shootings took place that killed dozens of people. The Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016, in Orlando, killed 49 and left 53 injured. In 2019, a shooter killed nine and injured in Dayton, OH. The shooter killed his own brother Paul Lynde did have anger issues, usually after drinking, when he could mean verbally. His family life and fear of being outed didn't help. The hate and violent rhetoric, in recent years, has added to the fear among the LBGTQ community and other groups. The vast majority of rhetoric have been perpertrated by some right-wing Caucasian males, according to the FBI. It's sad.

I 💜 Agnes!! She was an "in your face, tell it like it is" type person.. I like that! She was always prepared and hated when other actors she was working with weren't.. I've heard. But she was as nice as could be!! 💜⚘️

We don't hear much about them, but In my humble opinion, Berrnie Kopell, Marian Lorne, and Alice Pearson are right up there with Agnes Moorehead when comes to the real stars of "Bewitched".

yes indeed Endora EP love her daughter and she didn't like the way Darren talk to his wife he was very mean to her that's why Endora turned him all kinds of animals ha ha ha ha ha that was very funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂 the love of a mother but Darrin was not afraid of his mother-in-law he could care less he would always yell and scram to his mother-in-law.

Elizabeth Montgomery had such a timeless style about her. Very confident and effervescent. Even after all these years it’s difficult to believe she’s gone. Dick York lent such a beautiful frenetic energy to the character of Darrin, and made him into such a lovable “put upon” person. You couldn’t help but feel a great deal of compassion for Darren #1. York through himself completely into that character, and rode it over the cliff. I think that energy is what won us over prior to Sargent taking over the role. Dick Sargent didn’t seem comfortable in his own skin enough to do all the physical comedy required for the role of Darren. His comedy was very dry, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s just that we’d already fallen in love with Darren #1.

I think it was a good idea to hire Dick York as "Durwood." He did do it better than Sargent. If the show had gone with Sargent first (he wasn't available) I think the show would of tanked earlier than it did. In other words. I don't think it would have lasted 8 seasons. :(

This channel said Dick York was always kissing Elizabeth Montgomery when she didn’t want it, so I watched the episodes again and Sam is always the one initiating the kisses. They were following the script.

Koppel’s comments about Paul Lynde are rather sad, and reveal more about him than about Paul. ‘He was such an uncomfortable guy, with his life choices…..’ Then saying that he liked getting a rise out of him, and giving an example of how he harressed him on the set of the Flying Nun. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lynde encountered this kind of treatment everywhere.

Elizabeth Montgomery provocative? I saw another interview with Bernie Kopell, or maybe it was a longer version of this one, where he said that Elizabeth invited him to her dressing room and gave him two vodka tonics. He said it made him a little tipsy. 😆 Bernie said that people ogling over Liz. Well, that's what got Dick York on her "bad side". As the story has been related by some who knew, he'd stare at it her. This made her uncomfortable. I personally prefer Dick Sargent, who Liz loved and became good friends with, because I feel he portrayed the character far less hysterical than Dick York's Darrin. This was probably due to the writers. I've read that York didn't like the hysterics, either. He felt it took away some of the true feeling of love between Darrin and Sam, or something like that. Thanks.

He has a right to his opinions and that’s the thing Dick Sergeant would be first to say. That’s what I loved about him. He believed everyone’s had a right to their opinion. My best friend was a gay male and we discussed the gay lifestyle etc…for hours but we never had a cross word. When my husband was on life support the only one of his friends that could take it was our gay friend. My husband survived but it shook him to his core. The thing about Sergeant was he respected everyone’s opinion. Watch his interviews. I’m sure he was a cool dude.

Dick York was way better than Dick Sergeant, no contest. In terms of Elizabeth Montgomery, she was pretty but not gorgeous. She happened to be the eye candy on the set. If you want gorgeous lets talk Grace Kelley and Raquel Welch.

If Dick Sargeant wasn't as goog as Dick York, he wouldn't have been the first choice to play Darrin in 1963. The only thing York had in his favor was his facial reactions. IMO, Sargeant was better. Just my opinion.

Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery had great chemistry and Dick York and Agnes Morehead, when Endora put a spell on Darrin, Dick York was hilarious under Endora's spell. Plus Darrin #1 was more father like to Tabitha. Where Dick Sargent he was so dry comedy wise. Darrin #2 wasn't really fatherly to Tabitha and Adam.
