YORK (Holgate Bridge Junction) in FEBRUARY 1987
Further up the ECML later in the cold month of February I popped into York. Positioned along the railway (Then a favourite spotting place for the local enthusiasts) With an iconic panorama of the famous station with the Minster beyond made a superb photographic picture. No less than 3 class 08's on duty were recorded and a wonderful cavalcade hauled by a pair of 20's trundled through and under Holgate Bridge. Trans Penine services were in the hands of "Peaks" just and several workings were witnessed coming around the curve by the junction. No overhead wires yet but not too far away in the future. Were you one of the younger persons in the foreground ? ...

Did few all nighters at Newark that week. 31304 had worked 6S71 1930 Whitemoor to Mossend the previous night so that must have come off before Scotland. You show it here on back of light engine convoy,

Thanks for converting to digital and sharing this vid. How things have changed! Great selection of locos etc. That location was lost during the raising of Holgate Road bridge and electrification and the view over the fence at the back of the church is limited nowadays. However, just round the curve you can get a reasonable shot of trains avoiding the station. Likewise, the footbridge just south of Holgate Road is quite a handy location.

When one sees all the Class 08s and Class 09s buzzing around the station, what it makes one think is "Railway life" - I think [italics] the last Class 08 I saw moving about was 3-4 years ago around Temple Meads and the last Class 09, funnily enough, the one that the NRM have for their stockyard shunting. I'd love to know how far from a crew's base one of these got e.g. Newcastle (Heaton TMD or G'head) to Leeds say.

@@spompey yep, every Saturday on a Day Rover ticket. £1 for unlimited travel by rail or bus. I was in West Yorkshire so did Leeds to Huddersfield with 40s, 45/46s, 47s.on the Newcastle to Liverpool and Scarborough to Liverpool runs. Had six different whistlers in one day once. Back to Leeds at around 4pm to take the Leeds Carlisle as far as Keighley. Usually a 40 and even a 25 on one occasion. Oh to go back in time.

47602 Glorious Devon on a Transpennine working 🤔 ... Interesting move with 08707 with the two tank wagons and 08540 with its rods removed (not on its way to be scrapped yet though; it wasn't withdrawn until 2004)

The good old knackers yard....08540 withdrawn in 2004 I believe The rods may have been removed for towing without getting to heated......probably....Mark

I've just noticed 37074 had centre headcode boxes -was it involved in a derailment/collision somewhere?. I saw the first prototype HST at York on its first run.[we were allowed out of the office to see it!] Great footage -when we had real trains!

Not to my knowledge, there were quite a few changes in that era with headlights, markers etc, many thanks...best regards....Mark
