This is great! quick question though. The censor effect, that doesn't seem to come with my Final Cut Pro. Or am I missing something? Is this an add on that I have to get? if so how would I get that? I need to blur out faces and this method seems really easy with the censor. Thanks!

@Brad_West. Love your video on FCPx tracker but can it be used to track a video clip in a video ,similar to how you added and tracked text and if so how? Thank you
@Brad_West10 ай бұрын
Yes, you certainly can. So first you track the object in your first clip, using the add track option in the inspector window. Then you drop the second clip on top of the first clip. Click on the transfrom icon at the bottom of the viewer window, or right-click on the viewer window and select "Transform". Then you should see a drop-down box at the top of the viewer window next to "tracker". From there you can select the track and the resize and position your clip accordingly. Hope that helps 😄👍🏼

Came here for the tricks and I’m very thankful for your expertise. However, I gained even more just from watching your tutorial/production style. So quick and to the point without skipping important small steps. It’s not like you reinvented the wheel… you just did EVERYTHING a little better than other content creators of all niches that I’ve seen. Super clear and concise. You’re never overly extemporaneous (that’s a huge issue of mine). You also aren’t secretly gatekeeping from new users by intentionally using complex jargon while failing to explain it. A LOT of editors do that and I appreciated that you’re clearly confident enough in your skills that you’re not afraid to share the entirety while seeming encouraging. For all I know you eat babies every Saturday, but you come across as warm, welcoming, and proud to help. I at least feel like it says a lot about you. Absolute expert all around. Commented (obviously), subbed, liked, and all notifications turned on. In summation, you’re my new guru whether you like it or not. Lol WOW. I just realized the novel I just wrote lol. I have NEVER commented such a level of praise or written anywhere near as much on a KZbin comment in my life. I just feel you absolutely deserve to hear that you are incredible at what you’re doing all the way from the craft you’re teaching to the craft of demonstrating it. When someone is really good at this sort of thing they can almost make you forget they’re actually experts in multiple crafts. Huge props! Okay. Rant over. I don’t like being this nice. Gonna go yell at a random dog so I can return balance to the universe. 😂 🫡 ✌️ ❤️

You can most certainly track callouts with FCP’s built in tracking feature. The entire title/template will track with whatever object you track. Hello, I have a video clip showing some damage to the front of my house. In it is a part where my home address is showing. How can I create a tracker that blurs the house numbers as a result of me panning around the house where the street address numbers are showing? I'm using FCP 10.6.5. I'd also use this method to blur out a license plate when filming a vehicle. Thanks for considering.
@Brad_West2 жыл бұрын
Instead of dropping the effect directly onto the clip in the viewer window like in tip #3, you would first track the street address or licence plate, then add the effect and choose the track you did from the top of the viewer window. 👍🏼
@Mega_Casual Жыл бұрын
@@Brad_West Thank you. I didn't realize I could actually drag an effect to a portion of the video (address on house) and thereby create a tracker from that. That ended up working just fine and I was able to create the tracking object with the "Blur" effect. I discovered that the blur showed before the numbers and after so I dragged the tracker object out of the scene just before and just after the panning of the address. Now the blur is not visible except during the time the address is showing. Thanks so much for your reply!

Great Video! 🔥🔥🔥 Special question: I‘m going to track an object (video) from a B-Roll video that should correspond to an object (video) within the A-Roll. Both objects are moving (little zoom and rotation) in different ways by default. Is this possible by using the tracker feature? Multible instances?
@Brad_WestКүн бұрын
Thanks so much! I'm not 100% sure I understand what you mean. You want to track the movement of the broll and apply that movement to an object in the A roll? You would likely need to isolate the object in the A roll first.
@electrosquash670619 сағат бұрын
@ Here an example; An iPad is moving a bit (A-Roll), Now I‘m going to show a video (B-Roll) on the screen of the iPad. My issue is that both clips are in motion and I want to bring them together in an appropriate way. So I thought about auto-tracking each to a specific „center-point“. I tried it with keyfranes but the result is not good enough….

Hi! I'm new to the object tracker and having difficulty with jitters. I use a lot of chest-mounted gopro footage. If my footage isn't buttery smooth (The kind that could easily be keyframed in under a minute), the tracker bumps and jumps to try and keep a lock on the object, resulting in a very jarring tracking effect. Is there an option somewhere to smooth out the tracking so that it follows a less precise but more visually pleasing path?
@Brad_West2 жыл бұрын
You can edit the keyframes frame by frame, so maybe deleting every second keyframe of the track would work? Alternatively you could try track a smaller area if possible so that the tracker has a better chance of locking on.

If you can’t see the skier, FCP will lose the track. You would probably have to manually keyframe those sections where the skier is out of the frame.

You could try to track and HSL curves adjustment to the tip of the gun and desaturate and darken the orange colors to make it look more black. Tough to know if that would work without seeing the footage, but I hope that helps.

Brad- Thanks for another great and informative video. But you have a lot of room reverberation in your audio, so how about a tutorial to reduce room reverberation? Thanks!!
@Brad_West Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. That was my old home office and I couldn't really do much about the reverb there (rental).

Maybe you can address this. Attempting to use FCPX Tracking for the first time (instead of 3rd party tracking plug-ins) and I have found that the FCPX Tracker does not work on cropped video. The tracker perfectly follows the object identified, but, when applied to something else like an arrow pic (or text) to follow the object, the arrow doesn't follow properly on the cropped video. If I remove the cropping from the video, then I see that the arrow follows exactly. It just doesn't track properly when the video is cropped in. My 3rd party tracking plug-ins don't have this problem, so I guess I have to stick with that unless there is some setting I am missing to make the FCPX tracker work.

I haven’t experienced that issue personally but my suggestion would be to do your tracking on the uncropped clip. Then select the clip and the arrow or whatever you’re tracking and hit Option G to create a confound clip. Then crop the compound clip. Bit of a workaround but I think that might solve your problem 😄👍🏼
@doncambre Жыл бұрын
@@Brad_West I tried your suggestion of the compound clip with tracking of objects with no cropping, and then applying the cropping to the compound clip in the timeline. That does work but is a massive pain in the ass, especially for my workflow. It takes many times longer to do this. I think I will just have to stick with the 3rd party tracker. I was trying to move away from 3rd party plug-ins when I can because a new FCPX update might break them and the way the built-in tracker works is a bit better in many instances for applying to objects to track on top of the timeline. The problem is, I have cropping on EVERY SINGLE video clip in my timeline to remove the date, time, location, etc. info that is stamped at the bottom of the original content. Here is a video showing what I am talking about: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmjYoppme86ll7M

Thanks for sending that screen recording through, that helps a lot to see what you’re struggling with. I don’t think there is an easy way around that cropping problem. There is however, another solution but it doesn’t involve a FREE third-party plug-in. It’s called mCamRig from MotionVFX end it works as an adjustment layer so you can track the way you normally do without the cropping and then use mCamRig to create that cropping/zoom effect. It doesn’t solve the issue of wanting to move away from third-party plug-ins all together but at least you can use Final Cut Pro’s built in tracking and just add the mCamRig adjustment layer over the top.

@@Brad_West Thanks for the suggestion. I have mCamRig already, so I may play with that. I'll just keep using my 3rd party tracker for now.

Great and easy understandable, thank you Brad. Furthermore I would like to know whether you use a teleprompter for talking and if yes, how do you do that, that your eyes arent moving from left to right xD

I do actually. I like to plan my videos out to (hopefully) give as much value as possible in the shortest amount of time. I use this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIGTZ4d_grKNmck

Nice one, I just purchased elgato prompter but can’t read it so people won’t see my eyes moving that’s a big challenge thou :/
@Brad_West7 ай бұрын
@@rocus80m I wonder if it's because of the size of the screen? 🤔 It's possible that because it's a small screen and relatively far away (I shoot at about 50mm) that my eye movement is less noticeable?
@rocus80m7 ай бұрын
@@Brad_West Oh yeah that is maybe the case, as I shoot in front of my 24mm :/ as I dont have much space in office. Thanks buddy.

curious how to track motion I added to a still in FCP (pans, zooms), then marry another still on top to match the movements?
@Brad_West Жыл бұрын
The best way to do it, would be to create a compound clip of the still and then add your pan/zooms to the compound clip. Then anything you want to "track" to the still" you just put inside the compound clip.
