Ginny was dying because Tom was stealing her life force/soul. When Tom died, it went back to Ginny, which is why she recovered. She was never petrified. This was explained really well in the book, but I think they left some details out in the movie that would have made it clearer.

People really need to pay more attention to the character names; they say so much about the individual. Gilderoy Lockhart: 'Gilder' means one who gilds, one who makes something cheap look precious and high-value by applying gold leaf to it. 'Roy', french 'roi', means king; but I think this is related to the king of beasts, the lion (at least that's where my mind goes), so this is referencing a foppish lion, and Gilderoy does walk around like he's some counterfeit royalty, like a manky cat trying to pull off being a lion. 'Lockhart' strikes me as an unfeeling heart, one that locks out any empathy for others, so totally selfish. And he wipes other wizards' memories after stealing their knowledge without any concern for the impact his spell has on them. It's less about the money and more about the fame and adulation. I'm still amazed at name meanings from Victorian Flower Language: 'Lily' (Harry's mother) means innocent, pure. 'Petunia' (Harry's aunt) means angry, resentful. Oh, and 'Hermione' is the feminine form of 'Hermes', while 'Ronald' means 'mighty counselor/ruler'. Luna's dad is Xenophilius: 'xeno-' means foreigner/stranger, 'philia' means love/attraction/craving. So Luna's dad has a huge appreciation for new or unusual things and people.

Fun fact: director Chris Columbus was displeased with how the CGI looked in the first movie, so for this one, he ensured the scenes that would have CG be filmed first, so the visual effects team would have time to work on them. That would also explain why Draco and Ron's voices keep changing pitch throughout the film, as the actors, Tom Felton and Rupert Grint, hit puberty during filming.

There's a petrification victim they leave out of the movie that I wish they kept in. It's Penelope Clearwater, a Ravenclaw prefect, who's found with Hermione. I understand that it would have taken away from the intensity of Hermione, but even just a side comment like "she was found with a Ravenclaw prefect" would be enough. In the film, no student above their second year was petrified, so having a sixth year, and more specifically a prefect, be a victim, would give that added severity that no one's safe. The books are much clearer with the reasons behind each attack due to them being books and all. Mrs. Norris (the cat) is attacked because her owner, Filch, is a Squib (non-magical person with wizard parents), while Colin, Justin, and Penelope are all confirmed to be muggle born.

About “pure-bloods”, so pure-bloods are not just those with two magical parents, they are essentially those who come from a long line of wizards with no muggles, muggle born or half-bloods in their family tree. For example, even though both his parents were wizards, Harry isn’t pure-blood since his mum was muggle-born. Draco’s family the Malfoy’s are very pure-blooded coming from a long line of wizards and really pride themselves on this.

When I read the books, the next one, “Prisoner of Azkaban,” was is my favorite, and then the film of it turned out to be my favorite of the ones I have seen (for no real reason, I never got past the fifth movie, though your reactions may be a good excuse to finally watch the rest of them). 5:37 During filming, Dobby was just a tennis ball on a stick. Probably the reason the glasses have no lenses here is to avoid having a visible reflection of that tennis ball.
