It's definitely about Battery Street in San Fran but with a secondary meaning. I've heard them talk about it in an interview. Battery Street had several venues that catered to the thrash / heavy metal scene and they considered themselves a family versus the hairspray and makeup glam metal. To quote James, "these were our people". "Cannot kill the family, Battery is found in me. Battery, battery. "Lashing out the action, returning the reaction Weak are ripped and torn away" and "Circle of destruction, hammer comes crushing Powerhouse of energy" refer to the mosh pits.

@@MichaelLayne702 "The theme of the song revolves around the San Francisco thrash scene of the 1980s. The most prominent club played by Metallica was the Old Waldorf located at 444 Battery Street in downtown San Francsico. The tone of the song is one of familial ties and the positive release of energy through the common interest of metal. The lyric "Cannot kill the family, Battery is found in me" is a statement that while society at large doesn't understand the scene, those within it (i.e. "the family") will fiercely defend it as a show of solidarity against the glam scene that was popular in the Los Angeles area."
@MichaelLayne702
@MichaelLayne702 2 жыл бұрын
@@firecrakka iv heard that theory before, and I don’t think it makes sense, like I said it’s a really kool connection, but the theme of the album seems to address things like addiction and abuse. Cannot kill the family, battery is in me. To mean that a reference to when a domestic abuser blames his family every time he lashes out in anger, he justifies it by blaming them, but he can’t kill his family, the battery lives in him, therefore creating a circle of destruction when the hammer comes crushing.

This song would be a metal equivalent of a "club banger" - it's meaning actually isn't real deep, it's mostly just talking about the violent and aggressive energy of mosh-pits and metal concerts, and the tempo and aggressive sound is meant to whip concert-goers into a frenzy.

That is literally why I learned to play the guitar because I can hear every guitar note and on top of that I make guitar riffs and solos up in my head all the time. Physically I can barely play 1/10th of what I think up in my mind because when I play I go down a whole other rabbit hole it is like a constant background in my mind. I have 4 kids, work 40+ hrs a week and do all the finances, shopping and I still make music in my head almost non stop, then when I get time to play it is like a huge release.

Lex, you're spot on with the classical element of Metallica's music. Metal as a genre is heavily influenced by Classical music. The drummer Lars composes their music and pieces the guitar riffs, solos and drums much like a Classical composer does. That's one big reason why Metallica is very unique. Plus, they are the band that started the genre of Thrash Metal.

Wow, I just noticed I didn't subscribe yet. Forgive me for the error of my ways. I like seeing Lex being converted into a metalhead and love how Brad is being so openminded and also slowly warming up to metal. Can't wait until you guys discover Slayer, that will be a ride and a half :D

I am so loving these thrash reaction videos. My middle-aged white ass gets transported back to the mid to late 80's where I locked myself in my room with a boombox, a bunch of metal cassettes, a Peavey half stack & a metal'd out Stratocaster for a few hours of 6 string therapy. So great to see a new generation eating this shit up.

This a song about being at a metal concert. Imagine playing music this fast for 2 hours per concert and being in your late 30's and early 40's. The guys from Metallica are now in their late 50's approaching 60's. Just saying.
@Floyd690

euh, in this live version they were far from late 30's or early 40 's it was the Seattle version in 1989, Hetfield for exemple was 26 years old.. they were all in their absolute prime.

Lex really has incredible music instincts, especially considering ( as far as known) she’s not a trained musician or lifelong fan of metal. A lot of metal is basically partly classical music but with abrasive and distorted textures and timbre

Check out Yngwie Malmsteen's, "Far Beyond the Sun". Studio version from original album. This dude is a master of combining classical with metal. Heavily influenced by classical violin.

Whenever Lex starts talking about classical music, I really want to see you guys listen to Yngwie. Just avoid any of the live videos because they all suck (especially with an orchestra because you really need to know the source material before you dive into his + orchestra performances), best to just stick to the studio stuff with him. As for what song, anything off the first album (Rising Force).

You guys should react to the late great Wayne static and his band static X. A song called 'the only' by static X would be a good place to start.. Wayne static was really unique with his voice and had one of the best looks in metal ever. I've been missing him and playing a lot of static lately. Come on guys the only by static X...🤘🤘😎🤘🤘
