Helps quite a bit. I was struggling with adapting disks to my 1956 DJ3A Willys Jeep, but this is encouraging. My template is in plastic so I can work it out cheaply if I make a mistake. HDPE is easy to drill and cheap to buy. I think I've recut it 3 times because I forgot this or that even working off a cardboard template. I see what you're doing, and that helps. I am not alone in this endeavor!😀

Thanks! I'm happy to hear that this helps and that you're tackling the project yourself. HDPE is definitely better than cardboard. I've used cheap plastic kitchen cutting boards, too. I'm pretty sure they're about the same thing. A lot of guys have cheap laser cutters these days that will cut 1/4" plywood...which can be glued and stacked to make a rigid model. If you post a vid, please come back here and leave a link so others can see. :) Mike

Thanks. This bracket was redesigned into a 1 piece aluminum bracket about 4 years ago. :)

Thanks. I'm working on Porsche 944 turbo caliper mounts all around for my 280z with larger vented rotors. This gives me more food for thought.

You're more than welcome! I think I did one, maybe two other vids similar to this. I've since converted this bracket to a one piece aluminum unit. I've learned a lot of CAD, CAM and machining since I did this vid. lol :) You can see some of my other stuff at bluehandsfab.com.....and email me via the contact page if you get stuck and need another set of eyes. :)

@@bluehandsvideo Thanks man. I looked at the site. The bearing adapters are very interesting.

@@williamandrews1683 Also take a look at the 5 lug on Hardbody conversion. Pushing in the bearing shelves a bit to get your bearing spacing correct will open up more hub options. :)

@@bluehandsvideo I have long wondered about Toyota hubs from the 2x4 trucks. They are plentiful and 5x 4.5

@@williamandrews1683 They're not as plentiful any more. Guys have been having a hard time trying to find them.......so I just ordered 30 new ones from china....will take a month, maybe two to get here. Sure hope I can sell them all to make it worth the grief. LOL

Lots of work to get to this stage. It took me several iterations to get a sled engine mounting kit right. Engine alignment was critical as there was no provision for adjustment due to the chassis design.

Yep. It's pretty quick and easy to get the "broad" strokes done, but most of the time is spent on the last couple of details. Doing it right the first time is a lot faster than having to redo it. :)

Very good job man! Whitch kind of steel is it?
@bluehandsvideo5 жыл бұрын
This particular one was done with just hot rolled mild steel. The production ones were laser cut from 3/8" HRPO(hot rolled, pickled and oiled).....which is almost as nice as cold rolled, but way cheaper.

great video! but how do I go about measuring a template for the bracket? what's the best way to secure the brake caliper so I can cut a cardboard / paper template? How far does the caliper need to be from the vented side of the rotor? How to center the caliper to the rotor?
@bluehandsvideo5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sorry for the extremely long delay on the response. Seems I've missed a ton of notifications (thanks YT!) over the last year. Hopefully, you got yours figured out. I know I've shown a lot more in vids, but I have no idea where that info is or which videos it's buried in. This vid shows a bit more while I was designing another setup. You can see how I clamp the pads in place with the stock bracket. I can get the pads right where I want them and then center the backet's channel over the rotor. The caliper itself floats, so you only need to get the bracket centered. Other styles of calipers may require a different process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIWXiXuIqqp_ppo If you're still working on yours and still have questions, there's a contact page on my website that will get to me much more reliably than YT notifications. LOL bluehandsfab.com Thanks! Mike

I am sure you have been asked this many times but I have not seen anything related to it and that is; what are the liabilities for yourself and or the car/truck owner for modifying a safety feature such as brakes? I am wondering if the " big brother" inspection people in my area would flag this mod? Have you had any issues related to this?
@bluehandsvideo11 жыл бұрын
Great question. I'd love to get more input from others too. So far, my disclaimer is basically, the stuff I make is going on a show vehicle that will not be moved in the presence of the public....off road use only. They could be buying it for wall art. They're responsible since I have no control over the competence level with which it's installed. The only people that have asked about inspections have been in Australia and NE Europe. The latter wanted to know if I could make the bracket from one solid piece of steel. You'd have to get the input and specific rules from the inspection people in your area. Thanks!
