Beautiful, subtle colours of this Brambling, Maurice, and, yes, they harmonized with the fungi nicely. Well spotted!

Indeed, the colour of the bird is very similar to the colour of the fungi. Thank you for sharing the beautiful video, Maurice.

Wonderful again Maurice. Again, these wee birds are almost impossible to spot never mind film. They only show up in Norethn Ireland very very rarely and only in ones and twos in far flung places. You only hear about it after they have gone. Brilliant capture. Best wishes from Belfast Northern Ireland. Snow and bitter cold 'beast from the East', now gone thankfully!

Thank you Tom. I haven't seen many this winter, but was lucky enough to have this one visit the garden on and off for about 10 days and was able to attract it to this fantastic piece of dead silver birch that was covered in Turkey Tails fungi which made a great setting for filming it. Hopefully Spring won't be too far away now, all the very best, Maurice.

Excellent observation of this complementary coloration, Maurice. Always fascinating, too, to witness closely the manipulation of seeds in a bird's beak.

Thanks for your interesting comments, I always like to see how the finches use their tong to hold the seed in the groove of their upper mandible and the shear off the outer casing with their chisel shaped lower mandible, what is more amazing is how the groove gets wider and deeper towards the back and they select the right position to suit the size of the seed that they are eating.
