John Prime was 24 years or so when he wrote this. He wrote this from the perspective of a desperate woman. How could he do this? What gift he had. I for one will miss him very much. Rest in peace.

Holy shit! Just found this. These two were born to sing together. I hope they record an album together one day. RIP John Prine. This song alone guarantees your entry in the Heaven Hall Of Fame....and you wrote so many other brilliant ones too. Music lost a great one today.

Brandi sang it with John Prine, and I think this wonderful duo has a "country blues" direction, more like the great Bonnie Riatt and Prine himself. Susan Tedeschi and Grace Potter are both tremendous singers with full-out blues and soul power. Different traditions and voices, great results in ALL cases!

I am an old woman named after my mother My old man is another child that's grown old If dreams were lightning thunder was desire This old house would have burnt down a long time ago Make me an angel that flies from Montgom'ry Make me a poster of an old rodeo Just give me one thing that I can hold on to To believe in this living is just a hard way to go When I was a young girl well, I had me a cowboy He weren't much to look at, just free rambling man But that was a long time and no matter how I try The years just flow by like a broken down dam. Make me an angel that flies from Montgom'ry Make me a poster of an old rodeo Just give me one thing that I can hold on to To believe in this living is just a hard way to go There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzing And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today. How the hell can a person go to work in the morning And come home in the evening and have nothing to say. Make me an angel that flies from Montgom'ry Make me a poster of an old rodeo Just give me one thing that I can hold on to To believe in this living is just a hard way to go Songwriters: John Prine

J Prine wrote it from a female perspective of course. Raitt does a nice rendition but she doesn't "own" it . If you must know the truth the child next to Brandi is her daughter. I think this version is delightful. She is not a lesbian. She has many children. She has been around a long time. This is not her first rodeo.
@fishcampbabe5 жыл бұрын
Nobody covers it better than Bonnie Raitt. These two don't even know the meaning behind the song. It's one thing to sing a cover....it's another to actually understand what you're singing about and sing it with feeling. These two don't even come close. And Brandi is smiling and laughing while she's singing the most poignantly sad part of the song depicting a loveless relationship. "There’s flies in the kitchen, I can hear ’em there buzzing And I ain’t done nothing since I woke up today How in the hell can a person go to work in the morning And come home in the evening and have nothing to say"

Some people will never find joy and therefore hate it when they see it.
@fishcampbabe5 жыл бұрын
@@willykayak How odd that you would think I'm a hater just because I didn't enjoy their performance. It's clear they were enjoying their collaboration. I did not enjoy it. I happen to fully support the empowerment of strong women especially since I happen to be one. I raised two kids on my own while touring internationally and domestically with my own successful music career. I even recorded this song but never put it on one of my cds as I recognized that some covers should be left to the ones who do it best.
@fishcampbabe5 жыл бұрын
@@bartwilson2513 You're confusing hate with "didn't enjoy". You should be more careful when you use the word hate as it does not apply to my opinion of this performance at all.
