I discovered this song at the end of my marriage and we hadn’t separated yet but I knew it was coming soon because we were both so jaded and so distant from each other. When I heard the first time I cried like a baby because I saw our future and saw that we were destined to fall apart

This somg reminds me of a painful breakup in 2011 when I was young lol.. It's amazing how this song makes me cry even though I dont have any feelings for her or think about her at all... it just brings back the feeling of that pain which was such a formative part of my growing up ❤

@rjbell9683 жыл бұрын
Yup, I also am reading Broken Horses and listening to the songs as they appear in her story. I am rather new to Brandi Carlile and must say she is (they are) growing on me! She conveys such feeling and color with her voice. The instrumentation and harmonies by the twins beautifully complete the piece. It was interesting to learn that they are officially, contractually, as a group, called Brandi Carlile. So if they ever split up, she cannot use her name without them. May never be an issue, since it sure seems that they formed a chosen family together.

[Verse 1] A love song was playing on the radio It made me kind of sad because it made me think of you And I wonder how you're doing but I wish I didn't care Because I gave you all I had and got the worst of you [Chorus] By the way, I forgive you After all, maybe I should thank you For giving me what I've found Cause without you around I've been doing just fine Except for any time I hear that song (ooh ooh) [Verse 2] And didn't it break your heart when you watched my smile fading Did it ever cross your mind that one day the tables would be turned They told me the best revenge would be a life well lived And the strongest one that holds would be the hardest one to earn [Chorus] By the way, I forgive you After all, maybe I should thank you For giving me what I've found Cause without you around I've been doing just fine Except for any time I hear that song (ooh ooh) Oh, any time I hear that song (ooh ooh) [Verse 3] When I woke up in the morning I was choking on some words There were things unsaid between us, there were things you never told Now that's twice you broke my heart now, the first was way back then And to know that you're still unhappy only makes it break again [Chorus] By the way, I forgive you After all, maybe I should thank you For giving me what I've found Cause without you around I've been doing just fine By the way, I forgive you I never will, never will forget you For giving me what I've found Cause without you around I've been doing just fine Except for any time I hear that song (ooh ooh) Oh, any time I hear that song (ooh ooh) Oh, any time I hear that song (ooh ooh)

Just a beautiful voice. Why did it take long for her music to go mainstream. Never heard of her until the Grammys. I guess the radio and music world likes to pick and choose certain people. Oh might it be because she is gay... big freaking deal, get over it people.
@pepsiforever14 жыл бұрын
I don’t think her being gay is why you haven’t heard of her......I think the answer is HOW you get your music content, her gender and what winning a Grammy actually involves. Brandi Carlile does not make music that fits well into radio format (too long) and her style is more folk/ballad than Country/pop. If you find music on the radio then that’s prob why you never heard of her. Look at top Country played songs and the list is historically VERY heavily male. When Country plays women it is usually a extremely marketable automaton that makes a very specific visual and lyrical presentation of a women. Brandi is more roughly presented and less packaged than they can control. Lastly the Grammys have a VERY specific set of rules that must be met for nominations and are highly political. Some would argue that because you are nominated and measured by your peers and not the general public............that they are more of a honor. In either case with respect to the Grammy I think it may be as simple as timing and popularity. Mainstream (as you say) is not the measure of quality and frequently (auto tune) is about easy ........like bad takeout. All in all Brandi Carlile has been popular for ages in films and t.v soundtracks like (greys anatomy, lucky one, onward) and her and the twins Ballard style music is perfect for a evocative experience. At the end of the day its really about do you want to make quality music that you LOVE or produce prepackaged garbage for awards? Although sometimes its nice to just get the award!!😄
