This is a perfect movie to see a reaction for because it uses dated elements. The opening where Austin is running from fans is inspired by a Beatles movie, A Hard Day's Night. Bob's Big Boy was a well known, around here at least, franchise with that iconic mascot once upon a time. Tons of potential humor in a movie like this flies right past today's audiences. It's a good way to see what has stood the test of time and what didn't.

Of course, much of this film is also a direct parody of the James Coburn movies Our Man Flint and In Like Flint (which themselves were contemporary parodies of the James Bond movies) -- the Fembots scene in particular is right out of In Like Flint (with the Fembots themselves being from the '70s show The Bionic Woman).

@@LeChaunce yes, I always assumed that Powers was a parody of 60s-era spy TV shows and films in general, notably Bond but also many others. The Blofeld stuff with the cat is clearly Bond, as well as Odd Job and Pussy Galore.

And there's so many other nods to '60s things in here, like the opening chase scene with the girls being totally taken from the opening sequence of A Hard Day's Night, then becoming a nod to The Music Man with the marching band, and the line "This is my happening and it's freaking me out" is lifted directly from Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls.

Actually... The "FemBots" are a take from the aptly-named sequel, "Dr. Goldfoot, And The Girl-Bombs".

Thanks for sharing Brandon. It was a blast to watch the comedy along with your commentary. I actually watched this with some friends while in Geneva years ago, and while they loved the movie, they actually missed a lot of references. When I laughed at the "Number 2" bathroom joke, they looked at me puzzled and asked me to explain. That was just not gonna happen.

I'm always surprised how good Mike Myers English accent is in this movie. But it's hardly surprising considering both his parents were from Liverpool :)

I was shocked when I found out the "Austin Powers theme song" was actually a Quincy Jones song from 1962 called "Soul Bossa Nova". I was sure it must have been composed for the film but nope.

Also fun facts: Random Task (real name Joe Son) developed his own martial art, called Joe Son Do. He had 4 MMA fights, all of which he lost. His most memorable moment in MMA was getting repeatedly punched in the testicles by Keith Hackney at UFC 4.

Also fun fact - there was a lot of improved lines, as I'm sure is probably kinda obvious in some spots. Most blatantly, all the puns Austin made after escaping the death trap - Mike Meyers forgot his actual lines and just kept making jokes.

You should really check out “Fury”. It’s a Brad Pitt war movie, he’s the commander of a tank crew in ww2 Germany. Great movie. Insane cast

(She ain’t reading this one) but she’s literally...the best thing that ever happened to me. But don’t tell her, she already got enough power over me.
