This is a perfect movie to see a reaction for because it uses dated elements. The opening where Austin is running from fans is inspired by a Beatles movie, A Hard Day's Night. Bob's Big Boy was a well known, around here at least, franchise with that iconic mascot once upon a time. Tons of potential humor in a movie like this flies right past today's audiences. It's a good way to see what has stood the test of time and what didn't.

Of course, much of this film is also a direct parody of the James Coburn movies Our Man Flint and In Like Flint (which themselves were contemporary parodies of the James Bond movies) -- the Fembots scene in particular is right out of In Like Flint (with the Fembots themselves being from the '70s show The Bionic Woman).
@randall-king

@@LeChaunce yes, I always assumed that Powers was a parody of 60s-era spy TV shows and films in general, notably Bond but also many others. The Blofeld stuff with the cat is clearly Bond, as well as Odd Job and Pussy Galore.

@LeChaunce 3 жыл бұрын
@@randall-king Totally! And there's so many other nods to '60s things in here, like the opening chase scene with the girls being totally taken from the opening sequence of A Hard Day's Night, then becoming a nod to The Music Man with the marching band, and the line "This is my happening and it's freaking me out" is lifted directly from Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls.
