Thanks for pointing out that Jesus, by quoting the opening of Psalm 22, was drawing attention to the Psalm. I have heard so many sermons talk about how the Father turned His face away from Jesus because God is so holy that he cannot look upon sin. But there's no where in the Bible that tells us God can't literally look upon sin. When Habakkuk said, “Your eyes are too pure to look on evil” he was not saying that God cannot see evil. Instead he was talking about God approving of evil. God sees evil in the world but He doesn't sanction it or approve of it because He is too pure. If God literally could not look at sin, does that mean sin is stronger than God and therefore He cannot look at it? Also, Jesus is God. He is one with the Father and God cannot be divided. You cannot separate the Father and the Son, they aren't the same, but they are one God. And in this moment, the Father was not ashamed of the Son, the Father was pleased with Jesus. God had seen this moment from the beginning of time and this was always the plan for salvation. It was the Lord's will to crush Him. By understanding that Jesus is calling attention to the Psalm, when you read Psalm 22 you see that all of this was prophesied and is now playing itself out. And as you continue to read Psalm 22, you get to verse 24 which says the exact opposite of the Father turning his face away. Verse 24 says that God has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one and He has not turned His face away.

Thinking honestly back thru my own life, and even now as a more mature Christian, I can honestly say there are times, or circumstances, where I am in the crowd demanding Barabba's freedom, not Jesus's. Taken literally we can't imagine how anyone, let alone ones self, could be in this crowd, taken allegorically we see we've been in it all our lives.

The choices weren’t between two Jesus’ but between two Yeshua’s, or Joshua’s in modern English. The term Jesus as we know it only came into being in the Late Middle English of the 16-17th century. And the choice presented by Pilate wasn’t even between two Yeshua bar Abbas, but between Yeshua bar Abbas (Jesus son of the father) and Yeshua ha Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah). In fact, Jesus himself had stopped referring to himself as Yeshua at this point. When being questioned by Pilate, Jesus refers to himself as Ehyeh (I am) which was the name told to Moses to explain to the Israelites who had sent Moses to deliver them from bondage. Yeshua/Jesus was openly declaring himself to be God before the Roman and Jewish leadership - which was an open threat to them both. This is why they were able to whip the crowd into such a frenzy to crucify Yeshua ha Mashiach and release Yeshua bar Abbas.

It is stunning how the translations of words from original texts to English skew our understanding of what was intended or truly meant. It’s so easy to gloss over these words without connecting things that once put into proper context and meaning connect the dots perfectly. I read your book suggestion “Sitting at the feet of rabbi Jesus” and it was amazing. When I became interested in understanding what real Jewish culture in the first century (and before) was like it changed my perception and understanding of scripture. Layer on top of that your videos which go back to original text/context and everything comes to life as it was meant to. You inspire us to open ourselves to scripture as never before and it strengthens and enhances our faith. Thank you Brandon, this is certainly your calling 💕.

Wow, Brandon I have had to listen to this 3 times in order to wrap my head around all the symbolism. In picking Barabus we picked a person of the sword. And it looks like we have used Jesus as a sword from then on. I look at how we have treated others in the name of Jesus, to the point of killing millions through the past milleniums. We chose the wrong Jesus! And thus this is why we continue to have so much sin today? Is this why there has not been peace though the earth? Is this why it is so hard today to be a Christian who truly walks the walk and talks the talk without judgement and with a committment to the betterment of all people? Is this why there are rabid Christians today that point their fingers to others and use them as an excuse rather than giving them a hand up? This is shaking me up, Dude!

MY APOLOGIES, SIR. Neither, the KJV, the older NIV, the NKJV, nor the Amplified versions,(that I have), say Barabas' name was, 'Jesus Barabbas.' However. I did look at the Greek text online, at Bible Hub; which does show the name, Jesus Barabbas, in that verse. I had never heard this before, and therefore, became indignant at the implications. I also, read an article, saying 'Jesus' was a very common name at that time, (like Bill, or Bob, or Jim, or Mike, today) Again. My apologies.

Our society is so full of "easy believism" and I am encouraged to see more people exercising their priesthood and examining Scripture critically. From my reading of the Book of Mark and studying Roman history, the Roman's didn't release anyone who murdered a Roman citizen unless the accused was a Roman citizen themselves of significant station in Roman society. Knowing this information, it would seem that Barabbas may have murdered a Roman citizen that no one knew about, however the victim was probably a Jewish man who was a tax collector for the Roman Empire. The Jewish people viewed these tax collectors as traitors and sympathizers to Rome. Now the Zealots were terrorists who were known to murder Roman citizens and the Publicans when they had the opportunity to do so and not get caught. So as a Bible student and teacher myself this is how I have taught this historical account of Christ Jesus in Mark 15. I am not saying that I am completely correct in my assessment of who Barabbas may have murdered or how many people he may have killed. I don't know. My position is in alignment with yours on about 95% of the lesson you taught in this video. Pilate was on his "second strike" with the Roman government and the Jewish Leaders knew that and were sure that Pilate could not afford another serious mistake. Pilate being educated about how murder was not to be tolerated in Jewish and Roman law, saw this as a way to get out of having to sentence a man with whom he had found no fault, and it did not happen the way he thought it would.

Longinus is the centurion's name. He was nearly blind and when his lance drew blood and water from Jesus' side it splattered into his eyes and his sight was made whole to the glory of God. He became a Cappadocian monk under instruction of the apostles. He was later arrested for his faith. They extracted his teeth and cut off his tongue but to the glory of God he still plainly proclamated the Gospel including his experience, his testimony, without any loss of his ability to speak for he spoke clearly without his teeth and tongue. He even destroyed the governor's idols of false Roman gods of which the governor was made blind by the demons that were released from the idols. The governor had Longinus executed for this and the blindness left the governors eyes when some of Longinus blood splattered in his eyes at the execution. Oh blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in You. Now for the funny. John Wayne portrayed Longinus in "The Greatest Story Ever Told." His line was, "Surely this is the Son of God!" He was told for take two to say the line with greater awe. So the Duke says, "Aww, surely this is the Son of God."

Many people shared the name. Christ’s given name, commonly Romanized as Yeshua, was quite common in first-century Galilee. (Jesus comes from the transliteration of Yeshua into Greek and then English.) Archaeologists have unearthed the tombs of 71 Yeshuas from the period of Jesus’ death. The name also appears 30 times in the Old Testament in reference to four separate characters-including a descendent of Aaron who helped to distribute offerings of grain (2 Chronicles 31:15) and a man who accompanied former captives of Nebuchadnezzar back to Jerusalem (Ezra 2:2). The long version of the name, Yehoshua, appears another few hundred times, referring most notably to the legendary conqueror of Jericho (and the second most famous bearer of the name). So why do we call the Hebrew hero of Jericho Joshua and the Christian Messiah Jesus? Because the New Testament was originally written in Greek, not Hebrew or Aramaic. Greeks did not use the sound sh, so the evangelists substituted an S sound. Then, to make it a masculine name, they added another S sound at the end. The earliest written version of the name Jesus is Romanized today as Iesous. (Thus the crucifix inscription INRI: “Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum,” or “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”)

Then lets see. In many churches, the pastor/priest are called father, ---- really that does not mean they are, the father of God the almighty. But the father of ???? -- ONLY JESUS IS THE SUN OF GOD. BORN WITH OUT SIN. 2ND THE SISTERS --- ARE NOT THE SISTER OF JESUS, EVEN NOT THE DAUGHTER OF THE (FATHER PRIEST/PASTOR). And then we have the brother, who is not Jesus Brother., Jesus did have some half brothers. Maria is not, THE EARTHLY MOTHER OF JESUS, BUT THE JEWISH WOMAN, named Mary, who were ---- CHOSEN BY GOD I AM, TO BE THE EARTHLY MOTHER OF JESUS. So my opinion STOP THIS FATHER, DAUGHTER, MARIA NONSEN, AT LEAST USE THE NAME MARY, the earthly mother of Jesus.

Brandon...before I subscribe, I would like to know a few things to ensure that the information that you are teaching is factual. Where are you pulling the "behind the scenes" information from? i.e. info on Pontius Pilate and the Roman empire? What is your educational background and areas of study?

The Gospels portrayal of Roman Governor Pontius Pilate comes from an alternate reality, They unanimously portray him as indecisive and weak, who cannot bring himself to execute Jesus but is too weak to prevent it, he's such a timed man that all he can do is plead with the crowd, going back and forth, and let the Jews push him around until they threaten to tell Caesar on him if he refuses to do what They say and kill Jesus, At this point he gets so scared that he finally just gives in and literally washes his hands of the whole thing, in Reality, could such a dithering little nancy -boy ever cut it as the occupational military ruler of a strategically important province seething with rebellion ? The question is debatable, because the real Pilate was nothing like the limp doormat the Gospels describe, Like his boss, the emperor Tiberius, The real Pontius Pilate was an arrogant, ruthless despot. Philo of Alexandria described him as '' Naturally Inflexible and stubbornly relentless '' he committed '' Acts of corruption, insults, rapine, outrages on the people, arrogance, repeated murders of innocent victims, and constant and most galling savagery, '' Josephus described him as extremely offensive, wicked and corrupt, Pilate had No problem killing the natives, Nor did he ever lose much sleep over whether they were innocent or not, Under his command, scores of innocent Jews were massacred, such as recorded in Josephus' Antiquities, vol.18.2, when his soldiers, disguised in local dress and armed with daggers, Slipped into a crowd of protesters, and on his signal, killed everyone caught in their net ( Josephus says they killed '' a great number '' ) protestors As well as innocent bystanders, The Gospel Evangelists have the Jewish priests playing him like a fiddle, bossing him around, and lecturing him on how to do his Job, and even Threatening him outright ( John 19:12 ), In the real world, telling Pilate what to do was a sure way to get yourself swiftly killed, '' Any Jew who Dared to remind the Roman governor of his duty toward his emperor, or to even hint at more fervid patriotism would not be allowed to live another hour, Nor would the governor feel particularly inclined to grant their requests, either, In fact, like so many other aspects of Jesus' trial, The opposite is true, Pilate would always refuse what the Jews desired of him, and always do what they implored him not to do, And as for the laughable threat That he would get into hot water with Caesar if he did not execute Jesus, Nothing could be further from the truth, In Acts 18:14--15, When Paul appears as a prisoner before Gallio, The Roman governor of Greece, nothing about Jesus even comes up, Instead, Gallio rolls his eyes and dismisses the case, saying; '' If there were any wrongdoing or violent crime here, Then it would be reasonable to pay attention to you, But if this concerns questions about words and names and your own laws, Then see to the matter yourselves, I'm not interested in being a judge in these matters, Astoundingly, nothing about Jesus even comes up; To the Roman governor Gallio, The whole case is about nothing more than some tedious doctrinal squabble over the Jewish religion. At no point in the story do either the Jewish or Roman authorities ever appear to know that Jesus' body is missing, let alone that he was alive and walking around for 40 days, see ( Acts 1:3 ) the story was a fabrication,

Do you choose a Jesus who has worldly power to conquer your enemies, or a Jesus who took on your sins and paid for your eternal judgment. The first Jesus is worldly and offers you NO deliverance from SELF. The second Jesus, the true Son of the Father offers you eternal life. Which one do you choose?

I, like most, never thought of Barabbas as being an alternate Jesus. Hearing it explained how this video does, it makes sense. The Jews were expecting a king to come and overthrow their oppressors. When the true Son of God, Jesus came, they couldn't believe He was who He said He was. The world has been and still is facing the choice of which Jesus to follow. Question is, how much longer will the world have to decide? How much longer before God brings it all to the end?

Interesting I watched “Jesus of Nazareth”. 1977 movie and Barabas in the movie was a zealot and killed a Roman. This changes the idea had about him if true. Not sure why the movie had that detail but it give a reason for them to choose Barabas other than just hating Jesus.

Jesus said the gospels are to be taught in all corners of the world. Most of the brick church, the same Sanhedrim styled structured church we see today teach the ministry of Paul the fake apostle. If these organisations do mention a piece of Christ's words it is just a mere sentence. I have noticed this first hand over many years attending UK churches. Jesus said himself call no one teacher nor Father...do you get it? Jesus Christ is all that matters. Maranatha.

I like the fact that you say churches, in that pastors, etc., paint their own pictures by their interpretation of the words. Context is everything. How often do we have to go father backwards than a chapter or two to apply true context to what we read? You have said, many times, read the chapter before and after (the verses at least), to understand the context of the time in which a passage was written. Many times that is confusing.

That is a big stretch and I am not buying it. Jesus did not say there were two of Him. The old testament never said there were two messiahs. Sounds like a false teaching to me or minimally a gospel other that the one Jesus, Paul, or the apostles preach. Barabbas committed murder, did Jesus commit murder? Are you saying that this other "Jesus" is somehow the same as savior Jesus? The answer is no, this is some fantasy. To try and twist this scripture into something else seems deceptive, but again. I am not a teacher, or bible scholar. I only know that in the bible there is no identical instances of our savior Jesus on earth at the same time. Barabbas was a different person and was not a type or shadow of the one to come because Jesus had already come at that point.

Study to show yourself approved. The Hebrew Gospels says the Jews themselves tried and executed Yeshua, not Pilate. The Gospel of Nicodemus and Bartholomew say the same. Pilate, even in the Canon, says he will not condemn Yeshua to death, and the Jews say crucify him and let His blood be on our hands and on our children. But because churches today say Christians can't read any extra biblical text, the Broadway christians wouldn't know that. Did not Yeshua/Jesus tell the Jews/Pharisee they were of their father the devil? A den of vipers? Did He not say "beware the SCRIBES and pharisees"? The King James is far from a perfect work which is why as the Boreans did when Paul came along, they said we hear what you saying but we gonna go verify that with our scripture to see if you are correct. So should we even with the Roman Council of Nicea influenced translations. Why you think catholic preist wear yamakas? Of course being the people who say they are Jews but are not and do lie, wouldnt want THEIR perfect work to tell you the truth. Study to show yourself approved.Just saying.

Once you take the step you're a new convert and you ask what's the "Next Step" there is no next step the Gospel is the step we must study the Gospel of Jesus Christ it is the message. we must recognize that any sin is sin none the less I get asked is using ganja a sin? No where in the scriptures does it say Jesus and the disciples were rolling out a splieef or lighting up a pype.

it was also interesting in the other gospel records, i think it was Luke, that shows a roman centurion's faith that Jesus could heal his servant without going to the house, instead, He only needed to say the Word.

Didn't find any codex where the name "Jesus Barrabas" was present on a Mat 27:17 Duttilett is the Mathew in Hebrew and put the name as "Bar Rabah" on the other hand, shemtov includes it as barabbas wish means son of fathers. I couldn't find that Barrabas is called Jesus in any ancient scripture or codex. What's the version of the bible that Barrabas is call "Jesús Barrabas" ?

I am concerned he might have a little too much pride and condescension in his spirit. I will pray for your well being, Brandon. Otherwise, these are excellent and informative presentations! This gave me insight. In this age of social upheaval, it is easy to follow Barrabas Jesus (the rebel leader, the "liberator", the warrior, stick it to the man guy. It's hard to follow the Yeshua H'Masiach, who looks at the root of human injustice which is the fallen nature of humans.
