Such a wonderful memory. Had to get tickets with a lottery. Slept on the sidewalk for two days waiting for the show(I'm in the movie). The show itself. And breakfast afterwards. I'm 70 now, wish I was there again.

Life was so much simpler in 1970's. We are dinosaurs now but we witnessed the greatest period of time for music; 1968 to 1978. We had different values then. We could just sit outside in the dirt and dig a hole with a stick. We threw a tennis ball at the wires and each wire was a different base in baseball. We had to use our imagination. I can remember having my boom box and waiting until the songs came on the radio and then try to hit the record button just at the right moment. I would get lost in the music. I would visualize the guitar or the bass and how they mixed the overall sound. Of course, years later I would become a musician. The days of wonder and imagination are long behind us. Oh I wish young people today had just a taste of how we lived back then. Thank you for your comment. Peace.

So many people were desperate to get tickets. They used to wave signs saying “ I need a miracle “! I was philosophical about it. Tickets came to me when I needed them. I saw them with Little Feat at a outdoor concert at a racetrack here in Maine. The show was supposed to be sold out but by chance I just asked if they had any extra and they had 10. I had enough for one ticket and I hitchhiked there. I was a memorable show. The summer nights are awesome. The music was like food for our soul for sure.

I actually became a dead head..early 1970s at Donna Johnson s house on Cheltan Parkway in Cherry Hill ' New Jersey..I was a total outcast...Donna totally accepted me as well as her 300 pound middle line backer boyfriend called Jack at the local high school...Cherry Hill West...they were so so nice to me...they turned me onto the dead ..believe you me..I was a total outcast ..I absolutely positively love the music thanks to Donna and Jack..as timed past by I became a Zeppelin and Bowie guy...but until this absolute day...I can listen to Grateful Dead for weeks ....

I have 169 Stubb's that made it out of the show, lol. I'm thinking 40 or so never made it out of the arena. If you know what I mean. One show I started with a 2 nd tier seat and the stub I ended up leaving with, was a floor seat, taper section. Have no idea how it happened but it started my live recording era. Went to a 3 1/2 hour Dead concert in June of '69. Just got back to the states from the war. What a way to end a F-ed up war. The Dead took me as high as I could have gotten without any dope, but the air was full of cannabis smoke, so I didn't feel left out. It was totally awesome, as one can imagine. The first of several Dead concerts over the next few years. I encouraged several college friends and acquaintances to burn their draft cards and resist the draft in '70, '71 and '72. Best thing I can say took place during my college days. That and the Dead shows.

67 and liked them in high school when I had Workingmans Dead and American Beauty (still among the all time great albums from an era where somebody was turning out a great album every month). I remember joking about could we just go to the concert without joining the cult. Then I saw my first show - Folsom Field in September 72 - and I got it. Never "followed the band" but I saw them at least two dozen times from Red Rocks to Winterland. Didn't see this but in early 80s used to go to their New Years shows in Oakland. Great times. Never saw anyone unhappy at a Dead show, did you?

They held out on commercialism as much as possible, it wasn't all about money and Grammies. I believe they accomplished one with touch of Grey from in the dark, which was recorded in the dark by every member except Bob, some of his classic chords require fret board sight. He uses many technical chords. Names elude me atm.

My daughter is 27. As a wee one, she had a GD mix tape that she would listen to, in order to "calm down and relax". LOL, she still has this mix tape, and has bought equipment, in order to keep listening to it.

I love the dead. I was lucky enough to see them when Jerry was still alive. Once and awhile you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look it at it right.

My husband was a pure Deadhead. Followed them all over the east coast. I loved the Dead, but had never seen them. I met him at the local bar (which had a good jukebox). "Who's playing the Dead!" he demanded. I said, "I am." Well, that was it. We were together 15 years and it was a wonderful 15 years. We spent our first date listening to Scarlet/fire.

Jerry's singing is unmatched ... it s not an outstanding voice, ... yes it is .... his singing is so touching .... he sounds so fragile when he sings ... love it

It sounds real, that’s one of the great things about the rotating set list, the songs might not be polished (or they might be...) but they have that authentic feeling behind and infused into them

45 here, been grateful since 16. My sister had come home from college and accidentally left a GD cassette in the boom box. I listened more and more each day before and after school and was hooked in no time. Soon after I bought the Without A Net, cassette. Love too many to name but St Stephen was the first one and it changed my life! Fare thee well!

The show was the first time I saw the Dead. My parents were at a new years party with friends, and I watched this live on the SF PBS station. It changed my life. I saw the Dead live for the first time two months later and Keith and Donna's last show.

How can anyone not fall in love with Scarlet Begonias-with them tucked into her curls,the way she moves,the look in her eyes.....heart of gold band! Music is so melodic, can’t beat 3 guitars 2 dummers all the singers, bosanova jam-Boom blows my mind! Just picture the west coasters dancing to this back in the day when life was grand!

I was lucky enough to be there ! for that New Years ! My Wife who passed last year toured with her friends , But at that time in 1978 she was only 13 and not there . Hell I hadn't even met her yet ! She went on to see 111 show's, I'm older and a slacker, I have only been to 78 shows. Looking through our ticket stubs brings me happy memories and keeps me going...Rock On !
