Күн бұрын

"This is the opening sequence from one of the most famous, and highly regarded, Grateful Dead shows of all time, the Closing Of Winterland. With opening acts the New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Blues Brothers, the Dead didn't hit the stage until midnight, and played until the sun rose. Bill Graham served breakfast to everyone after the show." - David Lemieux

I have 169 Stubb's that made it out of the show, lol. I'm thinking 40 or so never made it out of the arena. If you know what I mean. One show I started with a 2 nd tier seat and the stub I ended up leaving with, was a floor seat, taper section. Have no idea how it happened but it started my live recording era. Taped untill jerrys last show.

67 and liked them in high school when I had Workingmans Dead and American Beauty (still among the all time great albums from an era where somebody was turning out a great album every month). I remember joking about could we just go to the concert without joining the cult. Then I saw my first show - Folsom Field in September 72 - and I got it. Never "followed the band" but I saw them at least two dozen times from Red Rocks to Winterland. Didn't see this but in early 80s used to go to their New Years shows in Oakland. Great times. Never saw anyone unhappy at a Dead show, did you?

This is so fucking good. The Grateful Dead are America's house band, in my opinion. There was no one like them. I always have felt that people who hate on the Dead, don't like them or say they don't like them, or haven't been exposed to them.... are all people that are missing out on something hugely magical. This piece of music is medicine and it is magic, and cannot be denied. It is one of many, too... Jerry was both blessed and cursed but was one of a special kind and this video captures how much of a master he was.

I made 4 shows late before Jerry passed july and December 94 but I've made(watched) countless shows on video. Obviously Jerry absolutely loved Fire on the mountain in this sequence. He expressed his groove during this song more than any it seems. Every time they played fire the energy level exploded and brought Jerry's soul to the forefront for everyone to hear. So fun to watch. I'd seen them earlier in the year, then at Pauley Pavilion at the end of the year but before this. Garcia is SO fun to watch in Scarlet Begonias here - he looks amazed and delighted at the sounds that are coming out of his guitar.

Yea the Dead are a conduit to the light. It's a cliche but it's not a coincidence they used a lot of psychedelics (early on when they were at their best) and then created music that makes folks go to a place where they feel happier. 💜😁

I saw Jerry and the Dead at the Stockton Auditorium in 1978. I made my way up to the stage right in front of Jerry. I was playing a lot of guitar back then and was watching every strum and every riff. After a while I looked at Jerry and he is smiling at me. He would play a riff and I would smile at him and he would be smiling back. It was indescribable that whole last set. Good Times!

Great recording! It hits my subwoofer with a nice punch (rare) without losing the high details. Sounds nothing like my bootlegged bootlegs and midnight radio show recordings I had years ago on cassettes in the bus. My favorite years are the late '70's from when I was too young to know anything about the music.
