I really wanted to like this gun (and I still do with the fixes).
But with the baseline issues, for most, you're better off spending a bit more to get a working gun out of the box.
Go to ModernWarriors (dot com) and get 10% off with code BRASS10

Springfield, a company built on a name that isn't what people think it is, and who has largely existed as an importer for other people's guns that people assume are American because of the name, makes a gun that isn't nearly as good as it could/should be due to price point manufacturing that would make Sig blush? Say it ain't so....

You know I'm seeing a trend with almost all modern products as of late. Basically every company out there is releasing some product X that doesnt work, and then random enthusiast person Y comes in and basically fixes the product with sheer force of will and knowledge. And then nothing happens and nothing changes.

My first pair of fancy shoes were LA Gear. They had leather fin ruffle things on the sides and two pairs of shoe laces. They cost $100 before taxes. That was in the late 1980's. 40 years later, shoe prices haven't changed much. You've got the $15-60 stuff they sell at places like Walmart. You've also got the $40-100ish stuff they sell at actual shoe stores. Doesn't matter if it is Sketchers or Nike or Reebok (if you can actually find them) or Adidas or New Balance or whatever. The same phenomenon exists in all manufactured goods. Power tools, clothes, kitchen appliances etc. Currency values have not remained stable over more than 4 decades. Instead what has happened is enshitification, planned obsolescence, manufacturing efficiency, frugal design and creation... Instead of the prices of products increasing to keep pace with the changes in currency, everything has gotten many times worse and lower in quality in order to maintain the same price points. The quality has long since disappeared. It was the first thing to be sacrificed in the efforts of the global order to perpetuate their fallacies.

You don’t need to get a chambers to get one that works. Isn’t chambers like over 10k? With all the problems you stated with the springfield, I found similar results online. Mushy/overtravel safties, trigger creep, usless adapter, and some mim parts breaking. So I saved like $700 and got the better gun, got the tisas B9R, sent it to get ported, tossed on an eps.As long as you can gargle the fact that it's made in turkey, its the shit. Look into it, Brock.
@Tikka183
@Tikka183 Ай бұрын
Seconding for the turkatto. Every part in them is forged and it's much cheaper than the Prodigy in addition to actually functioning out of the box. Got the 5" version, put a threaded barrel with a Griffin Armament ez-lok mount with one of their thread protector/micro comp things (not a very effective comp), cut a disconnector ramp on the bottom of the breach face, polished all the friction points, and threw in a full length guide rod and an 11lb recoil spring I had laying around and it shoots like a dream. I'm not a particularly good shooter, but I can watch the dot in the EPS through the whole recoil cycle and it comes to rest pretty much where it started, which coming from a Para double stack in .45 ACP is an extremely pleasant shooting experience. Next on the list is putting in a trigger with pre travel and overtravel adjustment and dialing in exactly how I want the trigger to feel. If you are to the point where the plan is to replace everything in the Prodigy, just start with a cheaper gun.

@DesertAnon1295 The original was, yes, but there is also the B9R DS. It takes Staccato mags, and the OEM mags that come with it are made by checkmate, who also makes the mags for Staccato. That was one of the big draws of it to me. I originally wanted a Platypus for glock mags, but realized that at this point a very large percentage of the guys I know were shooting Staccatos or Prodigies (that they did extensive work on) and mag quality and compatibility wasn't really an issue anymore.

Friends 4.25” prodigy just broke the ejector retaining screw after a few thousand rounds. Springfield did warranty it and turn around time was just over a week. Aside from that it has been reliable aside from occasional/rare feeding issues which we attributed to a very high grip and riding the slide.

The coating is one big issue of the prodigy (matches the issue with optic plates fitment). The rails are also coated and as its getting worn in a lot of black gunk builds up and slows down the slide. I broke mine in by racking it about 1000 times, cleaning and lubrication every 200 cycles. Runs without hickups so far. Will still change some parts over time (trigger, guiderod,…), because i like tinkering and improving things. If thats you, the prodigy might be great for you. If you want to buy a gun, that works out of the box, definitly not.

Honestly replacing all those parts is absolutely the move. First thing I did when i got mine was to get a c&s hammer/sear, atlas rod, atlas trigger, and have my gunsmith go ham on polishing and fitting. Cost me maybe 300$ in parts and labor (which, with my discount on the gun itself about evened out to standard pricing), and I have something that now runs impeccably. Absolutely shameful it doesn't ship with higher quality parts, because it really is a really solid firearm otherwise.

Funny I was so close to pulling the trigger and getting into 2011’s… prodigy was where my heart was set. (hellcat is my edc and only experience with Springfield) I came so close a few times but my confidence wasn’t there so I passed it up. I ended up with a cz sp01 tactical and God I couldn’t be happier. First CZ and I absolutely love it. So no 2011 for me just yet, maybe in the future when a reasonably priced good quality unicorn drops… until then I’ll save my scrilla for something worthy

I bought a regular Prodigy about a year after release. I also had a poorly fitted safety that was next to impossible to disengage if you tried to use it left handed, as you might an ambidextrous safety. My slide would hang up on the disconnector when going forward. Lastly mine would not reliably feed hollowpoints, HST, as it came from the factory. I sent it in and Springfield improved both the safety and did a fair amount of work trying to improve feeding reliability, including reaming the chamber, polishing the barrel and chamber, and refitting the barrel. It turned out that Springfield could have saved themselves a fair amount of money, because even with that work it still wouldn’t reliably feed hollowpoints. The issue was actually 1 of the 2 magazines itself. That gets me to a sticking point for me. The Prodigy was a collaborative effort between Springfield, Checkmate for the magazines, and Agency for the optics system. But no one seemingly wants to accept responsibility. When I figured out the issue with feeding was actually a magazine problem I contacted Springfield to see if they could get me a replacement. They ghosted me. When I contacted Checkmate about it at first they seemed excited to replace it, asked the production date of my Prodigy, and then also ghosted me. The ghosting continued to Agency for what became my biggest frustration and reason for selling the pistol: the optic plate. My optic plate would come loose within 200 rd without fail. I would degrease the threads, apply Loctite 243 or Vibra-Tite VC-3 (tried each separately over my ownership), torque to spec using a torque wrench, let it cure for 24 hr, and then shoot. The plate always came loose. I have had over a dozen optics equipped pistols. This was the only one that did this. I’ll add whereas in this video the plate needed fitting mine fit sloppily. I wish it had needed fitting. Whether it was the fault of the plate or the person who milled my slide recovering from a long night out, I finally got tired of it and sold the pistol. I did contact Agency at one point to see if they could offer any advice and they, you guessed it, ghosted me. I now have a Staccato P and a C2. I have had no issues with either with 4000 rd through the C2 and 1000 rd through the P. I like the aesthetics of the Prodigy and honestly the trigger wasn’t bad and the recoil sensation was similar to the Staccato. I like shooting it when it worked. But in my case the durability wasn’t there. I’ll add all of this was over only 1100 rd. That’s not what I would call a lot of shooting to experience all of those issues.

Call it what you want but the MAC 2011 done by Tisas does everything the prodigy does at $600 less. And you don't need to buy an adapter. And that's not because the Tisas model is fantastic, it's that the prodigy is on the same build quality as production line 2011s. And, to my knowledge, no MIM bs.

I bought the same thing a few months back to see if they really did suck... heres what i noticed with mine. It did NOT like 115gr ammo, failures to extract, didn't lock back. Ran 124s and Hornady Critical Dutys exclusively (my carry ammo) and runs fine now. Stock mags (i think duramags?) It hated it. Forked out the cash for some atlas mags and continued to run. threw those in the trash. Safety is spongey like yours but works fine, i can live with it. Other than that, I'm really enjoying mine, ill be snagging a toolless guiderod for mine and I think ill be done with mine. A few hickups but really happy with mine but again... sample size of one

I love my prodigy. It runs like a tack driver. Of course... I had to spend about 400 bucks to get it there after I bought it but.... 😟 My armorer said the main issue with the original prodigy was the cerakote. He said they poured it on so thick it inhibited the reliable function of the firearm. He cleaned that out, dropped a new trigger group, and a couple mim parts and voila! A 1,700 dollar gun that shoots like a 3,000 dollar gun. I love it. But I would buy something else if I had it to do again. Probably a Stacatto. Maybe a Bul. Or maybe I would just forego the 2011 entirely and go with a nice tuned CZ TS.
