I will forever be an Amy Farrah Fowler defender, because I have so much love for that character. I think with Sheldon and Amy, they completed each other in many ways. They were so much alike, that they blended effortlessly and it showed when they started living together. She loved Sheldon for who he was and I think Amy changed him in some ways but if you really look into their relationship, Sheldon really changed for Amy because he loved her and I think thats beautiful. You played Amy so beautifully and you made us love such a wonderful character. Thank you, Mayim!! I loved this whole conversation between you and Jonathan. It was great!!

As Jonathan pointed out, we all have mixes of intelligence. Some are stronger than others and even several are stronger than others. This is where we should expose ourselves to experiences and find out, as best we can, who we are. For my wife and I, this is how we have raised our kids. Get them out there to experience as many things as possible and encourage them to chase those things they enjoyed (usually what they were good at) and push them to excel at those things (high expectations). So far so good.

It’s true that many individuals often focus solely on expressing their own viewpoints in discussions. Yet, a transformative strategy for navigating any argument or debate is the practice of critical thinking-a skill that seems increasingly rare in today’s society. This approach encourages us to delve deeply into reading, cross-reference diverse sources, and genuinely consider a multitude of perspectives. By doing so, we cultivate empathy, allowing us to connect with others on a more profound level. This effort to engage with information holistically not only enhances our understanding but also fosters more meaningful and compassionate conversations. Embracing critical thinking is not just an intellectual exercise; it’s a rewarding journey that enriches our lives and strengthens our shared humanity.

I was already ON an SSRI when I went through perimenopause and menopause; and I almost didn’t notice it at ALL!! A couple (one or two) of night sweats and maybe three or four hot flashes. Tough but not crazy tough by any means. The worst part for me were the fibroid tumors, which a lot of (especially American) women develop during perimenopause. For me, they made periods extremely painful, and I looked like DEATH due to the amount of blood I was losing with each period. Gray and white countenance. I tried to do iron IV’s; but they just made the bleeding ten times MORE. So, I really DID feel like I was giving up the ghost! I toughed it out though through those years. And have fully completed the process. You almost forget the ups and downs life used to consist of-and mine had been OFF THE CHARTS HORRIBLE during my fertile years. -Couldn’t take the pill because I’d had several deep vein blood clots, and the pill brings a clotting risk but it DOES help with hormonal mood swings.

I just got out of a 4 1/2 year relationship with someone I thought I loved who started up sweet and charming, but ended up being physically abusive. He broke my bones and broke my front teeth. Mayim addressed so many of the warning signs that I refused to recognize in the beginning. He was definitely the type to copy and paste the same messages to multiple women. I thought I was the only one he was talking to bc he seemed so sweet and innocent. He even lied and told me that he was a virgin. Which was so bizarre because I wouldn’t care either way, but I later found out he had been sleeping with a married woman before me.. There was definitely financial control, very little depth in our relationship, I was always the one who had to keep it going, even if he punched me in the face. It was always my fault. I made him do it. A lot of trauma bonding. I don’t think he ever said sorry, but he would do acts of service to make up for his physical abuse.

First off, I want to tell you that I love your podcast so much. I am generally a quiet observer, I will watch and like but never comment, mostly because I tend to obsess on replies (or, more importantly, the lack there of). However, this episode was so fascinating to me that I just had to comment. I love the idea that there are different types of intelligence. As I was watching I realized that most people can probably identify with more than one at a time. I think intelligence can be influenced by the people we surround ourselves with, the situations we are in and who we are inside, so I don’t feel like it’s possible to determine intelligence with simple Q&A’s. I think we can gain a better understanding if there was a more in-depth, multilateral and situational approach. Imagine what we could learn about ourselves? Having been raised during the same time as Mayim, where you were either smart or not smart, this is very comforting to me. I grew up with an older brother who struggled so much in school just to get a "C" average but could take apart a truck and put it back together in a weekend. He could tell a story that would have you laughing so hard you couldn't breathe. On more than one occasion I can recall hearing people say "he's just not very smart". On the contrary, he was incredibly smart. While he would fail dismally on a math test that was put in front of him, he could figure out all of the math and other aspects to put a vehicle back together on his own. TBBT is my all-time favorite sitcom. It is my comfort show. It is the one show I will put in the background no matter what I am doing. It brings me so much joy, laughter and comfort. I can relate on some level to each character. I admire Amy’s patience and vulnerabilities and I can relate to Sheldon’s need for routines and organization. Thank you both for all that you do and share with us.

Yes, circular arguments. My X used to do that. He had a firm belief that he was smarter than me. One of the ways that he validated that belief was to keep changing the subject during an argument. This resulted in many long arguments which, in the end, had no point. During the long silence afterward, I often thought, "I don't even remember what the original issue was." Game and point for him. It took me a few years to understand what was happening. At that point I just refused to continue any discussion that clearly did not have a logical end. I remember finally telling him, "When you get like this, I know there is no point in talking to you. From now on, I am just going to walk away when you do this." Now the ball was in his court. It took him a couple of years, but he eventually chose leaving over cooperating.

Dr. Mayim! OMG! Please do an in-depth discussion with an expert on MENOPAUSE, PERI, DURING, POST!! I've been in hell since that first moment at the grocery when I went, "Was that a hot flash?" That was late 40s, then 50 came and destroyed me! I took bioidenticals for years but now can't afford them. Would my brain and body benefit for continued natural hormones at this age of 63? Is there an organic way, other than eating 10 tons of yams, to get them? Are synthesized hormones better than they used to be and are women still at risk for breast cancer if you take them? How to help with the brain fog and depression? And, kind of off of the subject, I've personally become more or have developed dyslexia as I've aged. Is that normal or should I see a neurologist or does it really matter at my age, just cope with ti (leaving that so you can see) and let my brain do whatervre (there's another one). Thank you!! xoxo

My ex and I knew each other for 3 months (in 2002) when I moved in.. predictably, the relationship didn’t last long. We married in 2004 and divorced in 2005, and he kept trying to pull me back in until I threatened a restraining order in 2009. I think he could see that I was happier on my own and he didn’t like that. 🤷🏻♀️ What’s concerning to me now is that, even though he was constantly getting on my case about my weight, he is now with a woman who is larger than I ever was. Clearly he targets women whom he believes have a low self-esteem and therefore are easy to manipulate ie: "I’m the best you’ll ever get". Literally one of the first things he ever said to me was "my Dad has a sailboat" and he bragged about how much money his PARENTS had.. as if that made HIM a better catch. His current wife recently had a "slip and fall" in a hotel bathroom and I cannot help but think that he did that to her. 😔

Kaley C. has a toddler and a husband, along with doing movies and streaming series, a new company connected to dogs and dog welfare, plus ads sometimes. Jim and his husband live in NYC most of the time now, I read, because he loves theater and is currently appearing on Broadway in his 6th or 7th show since TBBT started (he used to do them during summer breaks from TBBT). Unless one of them has a project to plug, I doubt we'll see them on the show. I could be wrong, of course. That's just how it looks to me.

I would love to see more chats about women's reproductive health and how different conditions affect the hormones and, in turn, can affect our mental health. Like PMDD, ADHD, PMS, PCOS, etc. I have one daughter who has ADHD and PMDD and another who has PCOS and ADHD. I myself have ADHD and have entered perimenopause and I can see us all struggling with our mental health at different times through our cycles.

Here's one I got from my ex-husband, while we were separated and he was dragging his feet when it came to signing the divorce papers: "I know you better than you know yourself." RUN, people. Don't ever fall for that shite.... And yes, I finally succeeded in getting the divorce, but I had to get a lawyer to contact his lawyer with a warning letter, after a year of waiting; suddenly, everything moved forward. Unbelievable.

A podcast subject and person to interview is Dr. Mary Claire Haver regarding perimenoause and menopause. There's so much value in what she knows, and a big aspect of It is indeed the effect reduction and eventual loss of oestrogen has on mental health and cognitive function. Love the podcast and especially with an international flavour 🇨🇦 👌

Bio-identical hormones are an incredible way to help women with perimenopause and menopause. The most important thing regarding this issue is to find a doctor/nurse practitioner who Specializes in menopause. I am a 67 and still use my bio-identical hormones. I am under the care of a doctor who tests my hormones, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. at least once a year. It's a process and you need to be patient with yourself but using them has changed my life for the better! I feel great and still have a sex drive. 😊 More women need to know about this subject and that they don't need to suffer through this period of their lives, but actually thrive!

I keep watching Big Bang theory, and I don’t think Sheldon is not a nerd. He’s what he is in his own spectrum. Good job, Jim.

Additionally there is no way to MAKE anyone FEEL or DO anything short of threatening to unalive them otherwise and even then you're given a choice lmao 😂❤ I can't believe I had to be 45 years old to finally see that and 5 years later I actually believe it which is so much more important ❤❤

Related to "your to sensitive" is "your overthinking it." I have an ex that used to say that everytime I wanted to discuss something that had upset me.

Mayim I love your podcasts and Jonathan is great. I think my fav guest so far was the women who had the near death experience in the parking lot of the synagogue. Now about those gold drapes with the white fringe. My mom had them way back in the day. And when she was done with them gave them to me. Lol

In my religion, the bahai faith, we believe in what's called independent investigation of truth..so something you guys were saying about individuality and politics and how each one will do what they wanna do and think what they think anyways reminded me of that principle of the bahai faith and we all have to think for ourselves and in some ways that song of frank sinatra 'my way' ..to me is actually godly ..cause we have to be ourselves and think for ourselves and at the end of the day we'll all be ourselves anyways

Who the heck is undecided. You know your side, ignore the political stuff and vote. Opt out until after the election results are in. Your knowledge of an event doesn’t change the event. You might miss some funny jokes but you won’t get pissed at things you can’t control- the only thing you can do is vote, so thats all you need to do.
@Historian2122 ай бұрын
Yes! When I adopted this attitude it helped me a lot.

That isn't the only thing you can do, though. You are actively choosing to be ok with that. Just own it.

@@TheForgotme I grew up with family that was way into into talking about politics around the table. Very little doing anything about it. So either actively do something that could cause change or don’t. But talking and getting angry at the dinner table with your family is not going to change anything. I just don’t need the daily and hourly agitation. I opt out of social media politics coverage and humor. If people really want to devote time and energy to making a change that is great. But I don’t choose to do anything other than vote. My point was being informed really doesn’t effect anything, it is false feeling of doing something

I am highly spatial. Quite verbal as well, but lacking the emotional intelligence to use it effectively. I am very crafty, but I associate that with my spatial skills. My crafts are of the very precise kind. I am only an engineer. Intra-personal? I have been consciously developing this in old age. These intelligences exist in all of us. We are less of a set of "spektrums" as we are mosaics.
