"Poor Things" was my first or second favorite film from last year, depending on what day you asked me. Mainly it's because I was SO pleasantly surprised and awestruck by it, not having been much of a Lanthimos fan before that. I admired his movies, but I didn't connect to them. That is until I saw "Poor Things", which blew me away. It was so good, that I made a mental note to rewatch his other films with new eyes and a more open mind. So, I will definitely see this, but I know that I shouldn't expect a similar vibe to "Poor Things". Thanks guys!

Yorgos Lanthimos' next film is a biopic of Breakfast All Day and its two hosts. Jesse Plemons will dye his beard silver and sport some black glasses to play Alonso. Naomi Watts is perfectly cast playing the effervescent Christy. I smell Oscar, folks.

Got to tell you: Congrats for describing this without spoilers while the whole movie IS A HUGE spoiler! The interpretation of how he uses "Sweet Dreams" is totally right, screenwriter himself (E.Filippou) mentioned it during his brief speech at the Greek premiere of the movie. Can't wait for your spoiler review where we can discuss it further. (Trivia: The guy who plays the same person in all stories is a very famous notary here in Athens!)

I liked this one better than both The Favourite and Poor Things. Tony McNamara is certainly a talented and witty writer, but he's not as daring as Lanthimos and Filippou. Their style of writing is totally unique and I'm so glad they came back together. I agree with Alonso; despite being nearly three hours long, I didn't know where each one of the story was going.

I think the second one was funniest. Short 1+2 are the best but all great. The second one has some funny lines and dark humour - my Sydney Film Festival audience laughed heaps. Even the closing shot of the triptych is amazing. I loved this and everyone played such compelling characters and you never once thought "oh william dafoe" - they just disappeared into their performances.

5.8/10.....I like Laanthimos' early films, Dogtooth as his best, so when I saw the trailer it had that kind of vibe which had me excited. When I found out during the movie it was an anthology, I was pretty disappointed. It did keep my attention with the runtime but left feeling empty. Not a bad film but I'm just comparing to his other films. Always enjoy coming back from the theater and hearing Christie and Alonso take. Lanthimos films ranked: 1. Dogtooth 2. The Lobster 3. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 4. Poor Things 5. Kinds of Kindness 6. The Fauvorite

Lanthimos version of “French dispatch” looks like where you’re just watching a director brew all of his films in one pot all the themes it looks like to me. Even poor things while different than this, I still see here similarity in how we view sex and love, dogtooth In way of people controlling people and yes BEING ABUSED as the song says lol. It’s almost like that song is a representation of lanthimos films. What this tells us though is that he is not afraid of being too mainstream not to say poor things was mainstream but this shows every few years he will bring us his big budget fish eye lens upbeat wacky film… then he will give us his nihilistic deadpan film. My question for you guys though is how does this compare to beau is afraid? That was a film where much like this is very long and is also somewhat anthology the different chapters and everything and just like this beau had a lot of similar themes aster touched on in his last two films. Is it just a matter of preference ?

I heard about this movie during the hype of Poor Things that BACK THEN, I thought this movie was too much too soon specially with pretty much the same cast. I was excited for Poor Things but this movie doesn't inspire me at the least to even want to check it out on streaming. Maybe if this movie was released 3 years after Poor Things, that would be fine, but, this movie feels awkwardly soon. If I watch this, all I'm gonna be thinking about is Poor Things, while I watch the movie. The title is cute and interesting but I'd like to see a different cast attached to this movie or a different director. I laughed a good bit and I liked it overall, but it's not something I'm going to think about much. The structure and outrageousness reminded me of the Argentinian movie Wild Tales from 2014 though I think I prefer that to Kindness. Wild Tales' runtime of 2 hours is about the upper limit for a movie like this imo. Kindness goes over that by 40+ minutes, the final segment being really flabby.

I loved Poor Things and The Favourite. But from the sounds of it this is more in the territory of his older movies, which I really didn’t care much for. So that has me worried a bit. But the cast is amazing with Plemons, Dafoe and especially Emma Stone, who I think is a revelation and a big part of my enjoyment of Poor Things and The Favourite. If she just brings the performance and energy I am used to from her it should be alright. I hope.

Definitely lower-tier Yorgos, but I appreciate what it’s going for overall, and Plemons definitely deserved that Best Actor award from Cannes.
