Hearing Christy mention Richard Ramirez 'The Night Stalker' reminded me that my wife (who's an RN today) was a young nurse at San Quentin where she had to tend to several notables on Death Row there, including Ramirez. She says he was evil incarnate when you looked into his eyes! Everyone else were sweethearts, as she puts it!

Loved X, a lot. Liked Pearl, a lot. Was severely disappointed by Maxxxine, especially having looked forward to seeing it for so long. So much potential, but it wasn't the great grand finale of the trilogy I had envisioned it to be. Ti West concentrated so much on the 80's look & feel and soundtrack, and the homages to so many prior films, that he forgot to create a story that was as compelling & clever as X and Pearl were. The staging of the finale was a clunky, confusing mess, and the actions of the main villain with the peripheral characters made no sense in light of the larger story. This should've / could've been a truly great horror trilogy, but Maxxxine was a letdown. But hey, at least now we can have Christy play Mia Goth in the eventual animated feature film biopic.

I subscribe sorely for Christy's wonder impressions, fortunately 😂😂😂 I came into this film having seen none of the previous episodes in this horror saga AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Definitely able to pick up enough plot to stay up to speed, and being totally engrossed in the neon glossiness of the 80's vibes really made the difference.

My issue with this trilogy is the release order. To me they should have done them in reverse chronological order. Start with Maxxxine, then X and then end with Pearl. It would have been a far more satisfying build up and payoff.

I really liked this movie. I liked it more than X but less than Pearl. I get what Christy is saying about Maxine not being very compelling in this movie, but at this point in the trilogy I'm already fully invested in her character anyway so that didn't really bother me.

I had a feeling I was going to be in the minority in this one. It so 80s giallo in the fact that it’s all style it makes no sense and third act comes out of nowhere. No spoilers but I was getting Dario Argentos Tenebre. So I adored every minute of it. Plus MaXXXine Halloween costumes are coming I’m telling you. Just had myself an X marathon. X and Pearl were a blast to revisit! I liked MaXXXine, but it is a bit of a letdown. One thing I loved about X and Pearl was what they had to say about how women are placed in both the world and in art. MaXXXine didn’t really have that, mostly just the general notions of Hollywood trappings. I read that Ti West is already working on a fourth film. I’m interested in seeing where he takes the story from here, but I hope it’s more inspired than this one.

I just saw it the other day. I did see the other 2, but this seemed standalone enough that you didn't need them. Other than the priest from her past and a reference line to TX, i didnt see a strong connection. All of her background could have been "generic country girl getting in porn in the slums of Los Angeles". Even the cops investigating, could have been just introduced later just for the current murder connections, why would they be concerned about a TX killer, its not like they were US Marshals. I thought it was good movie only with the movie references.
