I always assumed the various Hyrule-aligned races probably worshipped Hylia and the golden goddesses at the very least, but had their own traditions and guardian deities on top. Similar to how you can have a large multinational religion like Catholicism or Buddhism, but different regions will have their own special sites, ceremonies, holidays, and additional legends and folklore about saints and monsters and relics. Gorons, Zoras and Kokiri don't have their own Hylian-styled temples, but I'd chalk that up to "Triforcism" just being focused around a small number of primary temples. Not every Hylian town has a place of worship either, so it's possible commoners and foreigners just do their rites at home. All three of those races were entrusted with their respective spiritual stones after all, so it's clear their monarchs have ties to the Temple of Time.

I don't know if anyone besides the Hylians worship the triforce. I think all the races acknowledge it's power but not all accept it as their "god" similar to how islam views Jesus.

Would be interesting to see the religion of the Twili in Twilight Princess, once powerful sorcerers banished to the Twilight Realm. Of course can't forget about Hylia worship as seen in Skyward Sword. Im curious about the Wind Waker gods, specifically the Cyclone brothers: do you think the brothers always existed & just came down after the Flood? Or do you think they were created by the gods after the Great Flood? I should also correct a minor detail: its less that Miyamoto wanted Christianity to be in the Legend of Zelda (cool as that would be), its more he based alot of early Zelda on medieval culture, specifically the cross graves & soldiers painting crosses in their shields. Looking forward to the next episode!

I think the wind gods already existed. Zelda has a habit of just dropping new gods on us all the time. For example, all the leviathans that just sorta show up.

@@SwaggMasta0 Perhaps, could be the Cyclone brothers were in a different part of Hyrule or in the heavens before the Great Flood. Also I almost forgot: the mirror shield in early Ocarina of Time builds used to be a crescent moon & star & the fire temple had chanting but was later changed due to controversy. Even if unintentional, it can help explain the thought process behind the temple.

I know that it doesn't count, but Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland (there are no gods in Balloon Trip of Love sadly) does have three gods. (Spoilers just in case) The first one is Uncle Rupee, who's a demon representing the evil side of greed, deciving the desperate and struggling to work for him and collect Rupees, under a falls promise of getting them to a promise land called Rupeeland, which in reality, is what he does to the a world, after gaining enough power and influence over it. Forcing all who live to commit to an endless grind. Depending on the game progression, he can be defeated, but not compleatly gone, or the player can take his place. The second one are the Faries and the Grand Fairy, along with her daughter Pinkle, who represent the good side of greed and are ment to oppose any sort of evil influence, to try and keep the balanced relationship between man and the rupee pure. The last one is The Baron, kinda, there are different interpretations of him depending on which Drifter Bodyguard you'll defeat him with. If defeated by Ronny, he will mention two gods Bamo, the god of war and Aron, the god of love. Aron was murdered by humans and Bamo, wanting to take revenge, went on a masked rampage, but hid away due to being outnumbered. Baron may be a result of both gods infusing themselfs into the mask. I know this game isn't really a part of the Zelda Canon, but i just thought it would be neat to still mention it.

If the first Zelda game really was originally intended to have Christian iconography within it, that is quite interesting since it’s the second to last game in one of the timeline splits. It implies that within the background of the main games’ plot, that there is a story about a nation slowly being “Christianized”. (if we assume Hyrule is a kingdom in a larger world). Which is oddly fitting for a medieval fantasy game

Perhaps the appearance of the cross in the original Legend of Zelda games is an indication that the series has finally reached the end of its history and blended into our own. If we were to assume that Hyrule exists a very ancient Earth, then by the time Christianity begins to spread the kingdom is already declining and its remnants are soon to be forgotten by more contemporary historians

Nintendo did not remove ALL religious images from their game, as the ancient cistern is obviously Buddhism. And the botw hyrule has numerous Shinto elements like the little statues, gates , and spirits with worldy grievances

Religion in Hyrule is a fascinating topic and I hope you have seen Religion for Breakfast’s two videos on it! Creator gods - Din, Nayru, Farore. After creation of matter and energy (Din), laws of physics (Nayru), and life (Farore). The goddesses created a host of lesser beings, with Hylia being considered the “greatest” of their creations. (Similar to Amaterasu in Shintoism) As such, Hylia is put in charge of overseeing the foundation of the world, the Triforce. Below Hylia are other powerful beings: Demons- polar opposite to Hylia in domain but just as powerful Guardian spirits- pretty much every other god/spirit in Zelda. Poes/Undead/shades- the spiritual forms or echoes of mortals. Finally mortal humanoids and nature. Gods might pop up and disappear all the time due to the nature of Hyrule. I would love an explanation one day from someone exploring what it means to be a Sage in Zelda.

It not really about which is the best, it's about which is your favorite. But lets be real, Twilight Princess is the best due to the awesome sword skills (so sword combat isn't just swinging wildly), best ganondorf fight, and the best character in the series, midna.
