Ive lived on a river for 27 years. It can take a week to 2 weeks for rain water to reach me....after rain up steam. You learn to be as prepared as possible for rising water... I monitor my river gauge online constantly.... I've exoerienced 15 floods over the past 27 years....many were major teo were 1,000 year floods.

Except they aren’t thousand year floods anymore. With climate change, all of these events happen regularly now and it’s only going to get worse since humans are addicted to using fossil fuels and eating rotten corpse chunks (meat).

As a 75 year old, I gotta say that in my life we were always told, don't build within 150 miles of a coastline. This just shows that as a general poulace we've learned nothing.

By your 150 mile standard there wouldn’t be a single house in Great Britain or Ireland. If you lower it down to 70 miles, you‘ll finally find a small spot where you can build a few houses on. There‘s many more things to consider.

@JosephTurner-ok6br Asheville is essentially a bowl, geographically speaking. You have to know the risks. When I look at homes online I look at the geography, flood risk, large trees that could come down on the houses, etc. I've lived in all climates and through almost every type of extreme weather event and I'm starting to decide which I can handle and which I want nothing to do with. It is devastating what happened in Asheville but knowing what I do now I probably wouldn't move there due to the flood risk. I also lived in Florida for several years and I agree that you should never fill in wet, swampy areas and build on them. They have done this in a lot of other places as well. But in Florida it feels like it's happened more than other locations.

Nature by itself is not an inteligent being (only creatures are at some extent), so it only does what nature must do to continue its cycle during hurricane season, we can't control it, and usually when we do, it backfires, like in the middle east, where wealthy dry countries seed the skies, and later have places like Dubai completely under water (this is no conspiracy, as it's a regular practice) Why do we pray to God in the midst of these circumstances? Because He, as the owner and creator, is the only one that can break those rules out of love for His children, if He considers that's good for us.

It's a local news report on several rivers flooding in Pasco County, Florida, in the aftermath of hurricane Milton, which recently struck Florida with high levels of rain and wind. It shows charts of flood water cresting -- reaching their highest point -- with estimated times of cresting. News reports of this type help people avoid danger by evacuating and alert them to reach out to local first responders for assistance with evacuation if they live near a river and have no vehicle or are physically disabled. I hope that helps.
