I used to work in retail...and whenever a religious came into the store...whether at starbucks the mall... Target... Walmart...you name it...it was encouraging and made me feel proud to be Catholic...sometimes just the presence of the habit in the agora was so inspiring...it always encourages dialogue even with non-believers. I used to bring a retired byzantine old calendarist bishop out shopping every week...and he was a magnet in walmart...he heard confessions in the walgreens parking lot..... Getting out there where the people are saves souls...keep bringing the church/sacraments to them..where they are...sacramenta propter homines!

darien chalecki ... reminds me of when I once walked into a Starbucks during quiet time (scarce!) and there sat a Catholic nun sipping coffee and reading. Her habit was entirely white. In that environment she looked almost luminous! It was as if her presence lifted that common environment up and into the Holy. I wish I'd had the inner fortitude to say hello and that I was Catholic. I didn't. But I'll never forget that moment.

@chadantamoroso82436 жыл бұрын
Victorius Fredericus Ž.K Linnus brother, how about before you tell your parents, you come and see a friar/monk's life at first hand? Go and visit a convent/monastery/priory in the country and experience for yourself how it is to live a life of total consecration to God in the service of His Church. Once you do that and have the necessary experience, I guess you won't have a hard time explaining it to your parents. Will pray for you and may Our Mother Mary watch over you.

Breaking In The Habit well so far i've visited 4 active communities (one was the Sisters of Christian Charity in NJ and we did a "nun run" where we visited about 5 other orders within a 30min distance of the Sisters of Christian Charity...one of which was the Discalced (think that's how it's spelled haha)Carmelites) I enjoyed visiting the other active orders but with the Carmelites (who are in a monastery & are contemplative)I was beyond excited spiritually and almost cried out of joy when I actually saw them lol 🙈 I thought about that moment for the rest of the day and suddenly remembered something I asked God about YEARS ago ...how I had this deep desire to be a part of a community that was the same/similar to what St Bernadette or St Therese had when they were nuns...and after thinking more, I came to realize that God may be asking me to join the contemplative/monastic life w/ a full habit ...so the Sister who was in charge of the "nun run" suggested the Sisters of the Visitation in Tyringham,MA (founded by St Francis de Sales and St Jane de Chantal)...I read their entire website and from a purely logical standpoint the order seems like it was literally made for me (well more like I was made for it) (no I'm not just saying this out of excitement lol even my parents think it's a good fit for me and who I am as an individual)(Yes I'm also excited lol but what I mean is I'm not letting my emotions necessarily interfere with this potential decision because I'd be forcing myself to fit like a square peg in a round hole...I'm completely giving up control and letting Mary guide me on this potential decision and my vocation)...(as a sidenote, they wear the exact same habit St Jane wore 408yrs ago when she co-founded the order...which was also a desire of mine...I've always loved order,structure,and the tradition within Catholicism) I'm currently emailing the vocation director and hope to visit soon (I live close to them so that's a bonus haha) obviously with a monastic/contemplative life,lots of prayer is involved but they also make vestments for Priests,rosaries,toys for babies,etc (which is another bonus because i've always loved making things) So now that you know a bit about where I'm coming from, I guess I'm asking you to pray and ask God to lead me to a different order if this isn't the one but if it is, to somehow let me know soon (parents are giving me until September 30 to join an order )

Hi Brother! I have to say, I really love your videos and frankly, most of them have given me the support I needed when I was (and still am) discerning whether to join the religious life or not. I do have one question though. My hobby and my degree teaches me to own, administer, and expand my business venture. After seeing this video, I 've been meaning to ask: "Can a priest, or a member of the religious congregation, own a business?". I've always been inclined to own a restaurant and create a friendly, socially driven enterprise to help the community. Your answer to this question will be so important to me. As always, continue to bring awareness to Catholicism! We all love your work!
@BreakingInTheHabit6 жыл бұрын
As a member of a religious order, one would need to take a vow of poverty, meaning that they could not own a business. A diocesan priest does not take this vow and so I guess would be able to do this.

A social worker once told me that I needed to attend hairdressing school or some other school now. I wonder if that has anything to do with me having had an aunt still alive at one time who was a hairdresser? Another time a professor at a technical school where I was trying to learn how to network too told me that I needed to consider attending welding school instead. I wonder if that has anything to do with me having had a late father and a late cousin at the time who used to be a welder? Sadly now my much younger than me sister is now dead too. Good thing for the rest of my family too that I didn't take up that offer to become an under water welder once too while I was already at age 45. I wish this man the best. While hoping that he has no pre-existing chronic lung condition while maybe offering people perms too.

I admire the Franciscans for wearing their habits in public. Unfortunately, wearing clerical garb by priests and other consecrated persons in public is a thing of the past, due to a misinterpretation of the documents of the Second Vatican Council, and the desire to be "modern" and to "fit in." I find it odd, that our muslim friends, both men and women will wear their full regalia to the mosque for Friday services,, but Catholic Nuns and priests are now indistinguishable from the laity. Great witness indeed!
@VideoMask936 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live. I've seen many priests wearing clericals, and many sisters wearing habits.
@daryla78256 жыл бұрын
john riordan you know this how? Did you live then? Do you have photos from then? No, so you don't know exactly how they dressed. However we do know that the church decided that the clergy should wear a certain style of clothing to distinguish them from the laity. Priests and nuns who are laity slumming by dressing like the laity should be repremanded. Once they have taken their vows, they don't get to step back into the laity lifestyle. As it is written, he who puts his hand to the plow/plough and looks back, is not fit for the kingdom. Clergy who wear non clergical attire, do so to get up to no good. Because if they can't go to a place dressed in their clergical attire, then they probably shouldn't be there.
