The breaking up and expanding of Defying Gravity 100% worked for me. It made her final chorus, by the time we get there, so much more dramatic and defiant. Interesting how people respond differently to it.

Wicked had the impossible task of pleasing every theater kid who grew up on it, so the fact that it's gotten most of them on board is a feat in it's self. I loved the film, I've read the book multiple times and I've seen the musical about 5 times. I like that the film (being an adaptation) felt like it's own thing and didn't negate the musical. I didn't need it to make me feel how the musical did because it had a different task. Having Cynthia in the lead role changed how you experience the story so there's more meaning to her journey in the film versus the show.

I'm a blind person and a heads up I have a long comment, a positive one though. I knew I was right! You're a book fan too (note, I haven't had the chance to read the book), but, a heads up I'm hearing (a few) people think that if in part 2 they start including stuff from the novel, that some people think it'll be a quote unquote, finantial failure. I pointed out to them again and again, that no, fans would probably not mind if some of that stuff was included. Of course it's going to be different to the musical, it doesn't have to be exact. Especially with part 1 being over 2 hours in itself when the whole musical is that length. The movie (or movies) is/are, as you say, different. For my part, I feel like some people in the world have forgotten how to be entertained. I've seen more and more sinics, and it's really, really sad. As a blind person, I legit don't care about a person's skin colour. If they can sing in a musical movie, they're doing their job just fine to me. I don't understand why Hal Bailey got so much hate for the live action Littlee Mermaid. Now, yes, that movie isn't as good as the animated classic, nor do I think it was ever going to be. Yet people railed, and railed, and railed on it, and I never understood fully, why. Yes, that one was average at best I'd say, but not the "worstest movie eveerrrrr, reeeeeee" as some people seemed to do. I'm very happy to see so many people enjoying the Wickd film, and hoping to go next weekend. If you want more music fix, apart from the soundtrack which is of course out now, the score album is coming on December 6 apparently.

Random idea: Whay if there are no dogs in Oz, and Glinda is shocked to see Toto, asking what he is. Then she is charmed by how adorable he is, whereas Elphaba finds out and she's disgusted that Dorothy "owns" him. So she says, "I'll get you my pretty...and your little dog too" (to rescue him😅)

Oh good gosh yes. "Something truly b-aaaa-aaaa-aaaaaad". As a blind person it wasn't exactly scary for me in fact in the UK version it gets slightly more laughs sometimes, but the thought of suddenly just losing that power... ouch, every time. In the show, when the b-aa-aaad happens how does Elfi visually react? No one has actually told me that before.

I understand the guy in the glasses may not have resonated for him and thats fair. When i saw that moment of young Elphaba it set off the waterworks because throughout the whole movie we've watched her try to be enough and someone to reach out for her and in the end it was herself. It added extra weight as a black man because the first words i heard in my head were "representation is so important" - the amount of black women and girls who will watch that and see themselves letting go and healing was a lot. I know women of other races have played Elphaba but it holds a different weight for black people because we relate to being judged for our skin and outcasted.

The history of Oz in theme parks is interesting. One of the most prominent was the “Land of Oz” at Universal Studios Japan. It even featured a shortened 35 minute version of Wicked at the land until it closed in 2011. Also, they are indeed running Ariana in supporting at the Oscars because it is a weaker category this year. Cynthia might struggle getting in because lead is packed.
@KelilaBennet
@KelilaBennet 2 күн бұрын
I personally believe part one follows Elphaba's arc more and therefore the Cynthia up for Lead. Part 2 will be more Glinda and Ariana gets lead for that and Cynthia supporting. We also don't want to repeat the Tony's with both of them being up for lead.

I LOVED this adaptation so frakking much!!! I was crying already during the opening and ugly crying during the finale. I had to sit and collect myself in the car afterwards hahaha. I think the cast did an amazing job, and it was a nearly perfect film. I liked the pacing of it. Definitely will be seeing it again, and probably in theater. I caught a 10:30am showing of it today and the theater was already packed. This musical and the book mean so much to me that it was fantastic finally having my dream of it becoming a film come true. It's a book that I've read probably 6-8 times now and the OST is constantly on rotation for me too lol I wonder how people feel about the film that have never really read the book or seen the stage show/listened to the music feel about it?
@jukesy1992
@jukesy1992 19 сағат бұрын
If the ost is on rotation for you, I am hearing that the score album by John Powel is coming December 6, so there will be even more Wicked music for you to listen to! Also, and I don't know where or when this is happening, but there is evidence mounting, hard to find mind you, that the instrumentals of the songs will be released somewhere as well. I saw a 30 second preview on KZbin I don't know if I'm allowed to link it. But what I don't get is, if that's also going to be on the score album or if that's going to be another thing like they did for Greatest Showman where they released an instrumental album a few months down the line.

I hope part 2 has a visually darker tone compared to the first part because the story gets much darker in the second half. I think the visuals going from bright and whimsical in the first part to dark and gritty in the second part would amazing. The Wizard of OZ movie kind of did that back in the 30's anyway, so that could be a cool call back.

On a side note re Spielberg's West Side Story: It low key makes me almost a bit angry that the timing worked out the way it did, because right now Rachel is doing Romeo + Juliet on Broadway with Kit Connor and I keep just coming back to thinking that dang it, Kit would have made SUCH a fantastic Tony if they'd held off a few more years! 😩I just can't unsee it now, how great he and Rachel would have been, and it IS otherwise a pretty perfect adaptation.

That's exciting, also based on the classic film. Now my question for you is, do you think Universal might eventually do something of their own? They've already opened a Wicked Experience thing but I don't know how long that little thing will be there for. But with Epic Universe apparently there's some expansion plots, but also they're working in Bedford, was some of the film in the UK? If so, I'm wondering if the UK park might get Shiz or Emerald City if approved.
