yes top fruit them in a bag - if you only cut a few slits in the top it allows for CO2 to build and get the longer stems 👍

Hi Gary, great method, but doesn't method this hugely increase introducing contamination into the growing medium? It's highly unlikely that the spore prints are sterile. EDIT: My apologies, I commented too soon, your video explains my thoughts.

yes it should work if they are clean - if you can dilute them a little it may help

This is really informative. Thanks! Just a question: the mushrooms on the cakes look like they would be sporulating. Isn’t there a big chance of introducing other spores into the PDA when you clone?

yes but spores will take longer to germinate than the tissue to grow so you just need to be on top of it to transfer the new growth to a clean plate sooner than later

They work great - Im not sure it’s borosilicate and it has a metal ring as a gasket but I don’t know the brand

When Sanitising, spray from the side not directly towards the flow hood, do the same when working with any liquid

Hi! I’ve been following this channel for quite a while and now I’m finally needing to decide what colleges I might want to attempt to go to. I want to study mycology or some type of fungal microbiology. I live on the west coast US And was wondering if there are any schools people are aware of as having good programs for that?

You're videos are the best, but I have one question. We're warned that dyes used in food we eat could be harmful to our health. Could the dye used to color your agar alter the mushrooms genetics at all? I've never used dyes before which is why I'm asking.

Im not sure about that so far it seems to work fine but then again they are growing in plastic dishes in a two dimensional world which is out of the normal for them: I think they are very adaptable just like humans

I'm trying to understand the best way to stabilize new isolations or crossings. So would you recommend doing what you did here, cloning the best fruit with characteristics you desire, and then taking spore from the fruiting bodies birthed of that clone? Repeat until even from spore, you get a generally similar if not identical genetic expression from following generations?

yes you can do this eventually it will lead to some mutations which is why slant cultures are necessary for long term preservation of specific strains

I was under the impression cloning gives a genetically identical offspring to the parent, and thus would be the quickest and easiest route to stabilization. Spore is more of a genetic lottery. So I was thinking combining both techniques would be ideal for producing relatively genetically uniform new crosses.

PF Tek aka (psilocybe fanaticus technique) It's Psilocybe not Philosophy. You pronounced withoutthe P (Silo-cybe). The P is silent 🤫. But if you never have grown any and just read about them then regurgitate stuff you read online then that makes sense. Also note the Professor who made PF tek more popular in 1992 (He didn't invented the tek just made it popular) his name is Robert McPherson Aka (Psylocybe Fanaticus). Again even with his name the P is silent 🤫 and pronounced (Sylocybe) after Psilocybe (Silocybe). Just was a bit annoyed so I thought I would help you out so you didn't confuse people. 😎🤙🍄
