One thing I hate about Etsy, and it happens on other platforms as well - Is other sellers that are selling the same thing, they start lowballing the prices, especially in digital sells. I sell an item for 4.99, but I see others selling theirs for 1.50 or even .90 cents - also an EX: a 3000 item bundle for 5.50 - It's frustrating as heck!

Thats no etsy advice, thats simple motivation in life with ups and downs. Some people would call this life. This is just too general. Just common sense most of the stuff, you wouldnt open a copy of mcdonalds directly next to them, thats why all people talking about niches. Repeating always the same in thousands of videos on youtube cmon... where are the hard facts? "you need to do good research" "do your seo" thats so much nonsense which is common sense and no one knews the algorithm of etsy which is changing over the years. People think etsy stopped working on the algorithm? Forget year old videos of people saying they know how it works.

How exciting! Congrats on getting started! Sadly, there is no way to guarantee to prevent your art from getting stolen even if you take all of the precautions. I recommend watermarking your mockup photos so it’s not as easy to steal. As bad as it sounds, just know that your designs may get stolen at some point during your journey. If you’re lucky, it may not happen to you. If you do find a seller that has stolen your designs, you can report their listing or message them and kindly ask them to remove their listing otherwise you will be reporting it to Etsy. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching!

Good morning Brenon (from the east coast)! I always appreciate the video content you put up. Question, there are lot of folks like yourself suggesting to sell a variety of POD items (clothing, mugs etc) in one shop. However, when I research other sellers on Etsy I am only finding sellers who specialize in one product in one shop, whether it’s just clothing or just mugs or just wall art etc. (Do you recommend selling in more of a general store or just having one shop that dedicates itself to one kind of item?
@brenondopp
@brenondopp 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! When first starting out, I personally recommend being willing to experiment with a handful of different products and niches in one store. After doing so and finding something that works, you can then double down on it and run with it. For example, when we first started out, we listed clothing, mugs, wall art, stickers etc. and then had some good success with sweatshirts and t-shirts so we started creating more of that. Now, we mostly just sell sweatshirts and t-shirts. Not everyone is the same though and maybe mugs will take off for you so that’s why I say to be willing to experiment! I also highly recommend not limiting yourself to just one niche because it will prevent you from designing in a lot of trending niches and reaching more potential customers. I hope this makes sense! At the end of the day, it’s entirely up to you what you would like to do! I wish you the best! Thanks for watching!

Hi! This is a great question. You can sell them as a downloadable file but my recommendation anytime you are using a design service like Canva or Creative Fabrica is to always add to their elements or combine them to make them unique, different, and your own creation. You can also reach out to their support team to get further info on this topic. From what I understand though, if you are paying for a subscription with them, you are allowed to use most of their content for commercial use but you shouldn't sell them as is. Here is more info on how licensing works with Canva and Creative Fabrica www.canva.com/help/licenses-copyright-legal-commercial-use/ www.creativefabrica.com/faq/ I hope this helps! Great video,Brenon! Do you suggest opening only a POD Apparel store in 2023 considering the extremely high competition in this space on Etsy? To give you an example, I am interested in opening a POD Apparel store in camping niche. I just typed “Camping t-shirt” on Etsy and it showed me 86,852 results. As a new seller just starting out, how can I make sure Etsy will show my designs in this sea of 86,852 designs considering very few customers go past Page-2 statistically on e-commerce websites for their purchases. I would appreciate your response on this topic,thanks.
@brenondopp
@brenondopp 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I still recommend starting in 2023! If you are willing to put in the work and create something unique and different, there is still a lot of opportunity. I wouldn’t limit yourself to just one niche though. I would open a general store and experiment creating designs in several different niches, camping being one of them if that's something you're passionate/knowledgeable about. This way you don’t limit yourself to one niche and your options will be endless! I wish you the best! Thanks so much for watching!

Hi Brenon, So something I’m seeing and I’m wondering if you support this tactic as something we should all do. I don’t know the term but it seems to be price baiting. List a price of an XS t-shirt for $8 bucks so your product shows up as cheap but same quality as others and once they click on your page the best selling sizes are $18 and up. This seems to go against my morals but if it’s an accepted practice , maybe I need to get with the program? Please let me know your thoughts
@brenondopp

Hi! This is a great question and I do see a lot of successful sellers on Etsy do this strategy; however, I personally agree find it to be deceiving and therefore I don’t do it in my own shops. Hi Brenon, wondering if I could get your thoughts on 2 things... 1) Have you ever had issues logging into your etsy account while traveling to different countries? I am a digital nomad and I was recently suspended on Etsy for a suspicious log-in from my location that doesn't match my shop location or residential address. - 2) Shop location: Do you understand this to be your physical location? Or the location where your shirts are printed and shipped from? There is NO policy on Etsy explaining that. I ship exclusively from and to the US, but I physically am not in the US. You know Etsy is notorious for not answering and getting back to you. Your thoughts would be highly appreciated!
@brenondopp
@brenondopp 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m so sorry your shop was suspended! 1) I personally haven't had any issues with this (knock on wood!) and we have traveled internationally a lot over the past 2 years. Anytime I chat with Etsy support about it, they always say it should be completely fine and I shouldn’t run into any issues. To be honest though, I do worry about this often… so far, we have been lucky! I recommend turning on two-factor authentication just for some extra protection and so Etsy knows it's really you logging into your account from whatever country you are in. For your situation now, I would contact Etsy through their Help Center to explain your situation and go through the verification process to prove you're authorized to access the account. You’ll need to send them an email or file a suspension appeal. You can also try to access their live chat, but if you can't because your account is locked so you can’t log in to do so, you can consider logging on with a different account to contact them and then send them the info of the suspended account for them to help you or forward you to help. We had to do this when our shop was suspended for security reasons after updating credit card and billing info; we had to answer some security questions to prove it was us and then they gave us our account back. It's great they take security seriously, but it can be frustrating when there isn't anything wrong in the first place! If you don't hear back from them after a week, send them another email. It takes both patience and persistence to deal with their customer support! 2) I understand your shop location to be your base camp of where you are running your business from, but if you are traveling and jumping from country to country, it wouldn’t make sense to update it every time. I feel like that could cause more issues than leaving it set to one location in the USA. We set our location to my wife's hometown in the US when we traveled throughout Southeast Asia last year and didn't change it at all. I also have never been able to find anything on this directly from Etsy other than from their live chat… I hope you are able to get your shop back and can sort everything out! If I find anything else out about this, I'll be sure to let you know. I hope Etsy gets back to you soon! I wish you the best! Thanks for watching!

@@brenondopp thanks Mate, you are a total Gem, that’s why I love you and your channel! Most detailed answer ever! - There is not a lot of Etsy digital Nomads I know, so your experience with this is super valuable. Perhaps do a video targeted to Digital Nomads like me? How to travel and manage your shop at the same time? - 2FA seems the way to go, so Yes absolutely. - I’ve already send the appeal 1 week ago and they asked me a few security questions but since then, nothing. - I can access my account to a certain degree but the live chat does not seem to available for suspensions or for me in general. I’ve never been able to get to it in the help section. - I agree that it doesn’t make sense to change your shop location all the time on etsy, when you move as a digital nomad. It cannot be good. I had a huge dispute in one of the etsy support community forums with some vicious people telling me that I have broken all etsy rules about honesty and transparency, and since I’m lying about my shop location I’ll probably be permanently suspended.

Hi Brenon. You have a great channel. I look forward to the content of your videos during the week! Lately, I’ve been struggling with something and hope you could help. I've been doing a lot of research on opening a Etsy shop which is really kind of an under statement :) I recently settled on a name for my shop, however I was using a web site to check available names (namecheckr) which led me to believe that the name I choose was available. So I was pretty excited, designed a banner, an icon, and was ready to go.. and then as you can probably imagine by my tone, the name wasn't available! It was pretty upsetting to say the least. Anyway, in the wake of realization I hastily came up with a new name and wanted to change it so I created a new account with the same email .. ugh! (long story). So after this big mess I somehow ended up with 3 shops and a big mess because now my accounts are suspended. I later learned in doing more research that there’s a way to officially change the name of your shop, without having to create a new shop, which would have made more sense (I feel pretty dumb for not knowing!). I believe, in one of your videos you say not to spend a lot of time on the name however, in researching 15-20 Best Sellers, it seems that the look and feel of these shops would not be possible without a decent name. So now I found a new name that feels right and is available and rather than create a new shop I plan to just change the name of whichever existing shop they give me (if they lift the suspension). Do you know if changing the name in Etsy will negatively affect my chances of listing properly in their search engine or maybe negatively affect how people find me?
@brenondopp
@brenondopp 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoy my videos! I’m sorry about the issues you have been having with your shop. Here is a link with all of the information you need in regards to deciding what to name your shop! www.etsy.com/seller-handbook/article/23181234159 You don’t need to feel dumb about not knowing you can change your shop name. There is a learning curve with selling on Etsy, and right now you are just going through that process! That's great you thought of another one that feels right for when you get your account back! Changing your shop name will not negatively affect you in any way, especially when first starting out. I definitely think you can and should put some thought into your shop name, but I don't want people to stress so much about it to the point where they don't open their shop or put it off for a long time. I don’t think it is a huge game changer when it comes to sales. Yes, the catchier it is, the easier it will be for returning customers to remember your store name, but other than that, I don’t think it is a huge deal because most people buy from the search results and not from looking through various stores. The most important thing to focus on is creating high-quality converting listings. I hope you can get everything sorted out and get your shop back! You'll need to contact them through their Help Center and they should lift the suspension for you after you explain your situation. Thanks so much for watching!
