I think its really cool seeing the minidolls sets become more advanced. I think to the Disney sets that came out this year like the Maleficent Dragon or Encanto Casita that have amazing builds that are even fun for older lego fans. I'm excited to see what kind of cool minidoll sets come out in the future (and hopefully it includes more Wicked)!

With the updated design language for mini-doll prints, as well as the buildable figures, I really hope that LEGO will make another original IP with mini-dolls. Imagine a spiritual successor to LEGO Elves! I'm confident they'll do something like that eventually, but who knows how long it will be for that to come true.
@logansmith2703Ай бұрын
Or heck just bring Elves back after a timeskip
@TDIfan10Ай бұрын
Yes! They could even do an Elves revival or a spiritual successor. We don’t get many fantasy inspired sets nowadays, just the hyper expensive Lord of the Rings or Dungeon and Dragons ones. There’s definitely room for Elves to return.

Although I'ma bigger fan of Tim Burton's live-action films (which I'd love to see done entirely in Lego, preferably minifigs) I do agree that his animated film, especially The Corpse Bride, would suit minidolls particularly well.

My dream for the future of Lego is that for each set you could choose if you want mini dolls, mini-figs or both(at an additional cost for both). I suppose this would make inventory in store difficult but i think they have the tech at this point to do this and it could alleviate so much of debate. I love the Wicked mini-dolls but would have also loved minifigs and would have gladly paid a little extra to get both.

I love the big wicked set but can’t afford but so glad the wicked sets exist, the mini dolls look incredibly detailed and far less childish than i remember them being, they just look really detailed and can stand on their own I think as their own Lego thing. Wednesday are more my thing, both sets look incredible as well as the brickheads.

I agree with your analysis! I built the trunk and Emerald City sets over the weekend and found both to be spectacular. Minidolls were long overdue for another new theme and I find both Wicked and Wednesday to be perfect fits. If leaks are to be trusted, then we can expect two more buildable doll sets for the Disney Princess theme. One of Cinderella, and one of Maleficent and Cruella de Vil.

You can read my written review for Emerald City if it helps: www.brickfanatics.com/lego-75684-welcome-to-emerald-city-review/ The short version is: I think I actually prefer the trunk because of the density of cool features and the fact that it makes a more detailed display piece, but the Emerald City comes with more varied minifigures, and has a lot of cool worldbuilding, plus it's the only one that comes with the best and Elphaba and Glinda outfits, so it's a matter of personal preference.

If you glance down the girls toy isle at a department store, those brick build dolls look more similar similar to doll offerings they've had for years/decades (rather than mini dolls). To mimic those in lego is probably a good idea. Also i've had no problems putting mini dolls on studs, girls sets are studded even.... errr...? At this point i stop being qualified to comment, but i can say that my 2 year old daughter at present likes miniFIGURES more than mini dolls, even though every single day shes encouraged to play with her mini dolls instead.. Look as a boy, if you like city, you'll probably like friends. If like me you only have a token pile of the best, you're probably not going to notice the vast majority of the sets that include mini dolls. The friends ewok village almost got my attention...Lastly.. i think what you should do is go ask any female child within 5 years of hitting puberty what they think of lego. That's lego's actual problem, and why mini dolls are probably under an age glass ceiling.

The problem is i dont want lego to evolve minidolls due to the simple fact that i dislike them strongly. The fact that my favorite IPs get minidolls instead of minifigures us very frustrating. If they got both then i wouldnt have any problems. The characters being like Disney princesses doesn't sell me on the minidoll decision because i prefer my disney princesses in minifigure form. I wpuld rather just order the hair peices second hand and have unofficial, custom minifigures than any official minidoll. And if i end up getting these sets it will be either at a big discount or second hand, and despite the fact that they include minidolls, of which will go straight to the bin of shame. Minidolls only take away from a set for me. The build can be amazing but i have limited space and money so if a set doesn't come with minifigures, which are the biggest draw for me, then the chances of me picking it up it go down to almost zero. In some cases like disney, i will occasionally pick up a minidoll set but only because i have the disney minifigures to replace the minidolls with. That is not the case with the wicked sets unfortunately so its hard for me to justify purchasing the sets. I love Wicked but i strongly dislike minidolls.

I'm sorry hardcore Lego fans, but I love mini dolls SO much more than mini figs. I've always liked Lego as an idea, but mini figs kept me away from it, then the addition of mini dolls into Lego became my gateway into Lego.
@GregOrCregАй бұрын
There are already plenty of other toy companies that make dolls. Minifigs are unique to Lego. TLG would be fools to forget that. Perhaps if Lego had started out with minidolls, it wouldn't be a problem, but a proliferation of minidolls over minifigs, makes one's existing minifig collections seem increasingly redundant. The two types of model don't really fit alongside the other.
@srm20320Ай бұрын
But...what if...and hear me out on this...We throw the minidoll design in a fire and let it burn while we celebrate all of these amazing characters done justice in a minifig format. I'll be real, especially agree to disagree, but I'm completely against mini dolls. The minifigure is iconic and allows for way more imagination than a mini doll could ever, but aside from that lego bricks and sets are largely made with the minifigure in mind. It will never happen but if lego were to largely pivot to favour minidolls over figures, I and many others will simply not buy lego anymore
