I think you need to drive my Bricklin. There's something wrong with that one if it can't outrun a Delorean. The Bricklin was tested by Autoweek and it outperformed the 1975 Corvette in acceleration handling and breaking. Most Bricklins have been fitted with faster more reliable air powered doors and air powered headlights. That's the problem with all original Bricklins they need a few upgrades to make them a car you can drive all day. The upgrades don't take away from the originality it just makes them better. Once again I invite you to drive my Bricklin. 😎

I have a mechanic whose bread and butter is Volvos. Imagine my surprise when one day he had a DeLorean on the lift, but upon reflexion it made sense since it uses the same engine as the Volvo 760 (plus he likes working on unusual cars and the DeLorean has the advantage that all parts are readily available). Regarding the Bricklin, when I was in high school in Montreal in the mid-70s, one of our teachers drove a Peugeot which wasn't particularly reliable as a result of which she would every so often get a lift from her brother, a well-known journalist and man-about-town, in his brand-new Bricklin.

The Bricklin was manufactured in my hometown of Saint John New Brunswick in Canada. The issues wire the pop up head lights and the doors failing (those doors were heavy). @@davet231 All of your observations are correct and intelligent - I am not going to argue this just because I'm a troll on the internet. My father met Malcolm Bricklin long ago when he was (going to) buy one of the cars. I also did contract I.T. work for a guy who did contract engineering work for Bricklin. That engineer said that the team originally proposed the torsion bar setup, but that team was a room full of intelligent people who immediately said "What if it rolls over?". John Delorean was in a room of rich a-holes who just said "That's tubular!" and then sneezed coke all over the drawings. (It's a funny tale, of course but that's what I learned) But yes, you are correct - the system wasn't so great that it would actually address these issues. The Bricklin was made in New Brunswick Canada. The idea was that out of work people in the fisheries could build a car with limited training. 4:55 Pressing "Up" not down. 5:05 Horn is on signal stock. Delorean is a cruiser. Owned mine since July 2000 and even delivered pizza with it for 2 years. Still runs great after over 1/3 of a century on the road. I know what I got. It ain't gonna win any races and that's fine. Still plenty fast enough for daily traffic and will top 120mph bone stock. Cruising at interstate speeds is a dream. On rails and effortless. I got an S5 if I wanna go fast.

I owned an August 81 build for about 10 years and I agree with all of your observations. Great highway cruiser! Terrible turning radius and painful with no power steering at low speeds. Also it's probably good that Tyler couldn't get the tollbooth window down or he might have rolled it right off the track! Mine were constantly jumping off the tracks in the doors. The regulator design was horrible.

Was the drag race for who hit 88 first? If so, it should still be going on.
@TimeMasterOG2 жыл бұрын
why would it still be going on when both could easily go past 100? the delorean could max out at more that 130 as said in video and the bricklin could do up to 200... they are both capable of that speed

Wow. I just found out about the Bricklin and i've known about the DeLorean forever. And just today, one of my favorite car youtubers posts a video on the two!

Which one do you guys think looks the best?? I like the Bricklin's look from the outside - especially from the side.

I went to college with Mark Bricklin, Malcolm's son. The ads for the Bricklin touted the fact that there was no cigarette lighter, for safety reasons -- no dropped ashes. He told me that the engineers just forgot to design one in. Mark was driving a Subaru. Before he had his own car company, Malcolm was the first importer of Subarus.

No...There is no ashtray either. Im sure they didnt forget a spare tire either, there was NO spare tire or jack for the car. Changing a flat on the side of the road was not safe. The "Safety Vehicle 1" was full of little quirks like that. The doors only needed 12 inches clearance to open, so you could get out if an idiot parked you in.

Mark is a pal of mine too! Love my Bricklin. I only wish I could have driven my car against that Delorean. VOOM!!!

I thought Bricklin's had AMC V8's.
@steveedgar8962 Жыл бұрын
the 74s had the AMC 360
@foskco876 ай бұрын
In 1974 they had the AMC 360 and you could get a 4 speed manual transmission. After that they all had the Ford engines with an automatic which were lackluster

I actually saw a SV 1. It too thought it was a kit car and imagined a light nimble lotus like driving experience since it looked so sporty.
@mbertono75686 жыл бұрын
Ive seen a few sv1's before and even got a chance to drive one back in 2007 and i can say that they are by no means fast but this bricklin is not running like it should . also those doors should open and close in half that time if they were working correctly
@SteveEarlcelerityproject6 жыл бұрын
The one you saw likely had a pneumatic conversion. Air doors work much faster than hydraulic doors.

Deloreans are hopefully going to be made in 2019 again they will look the same however they will be new , with 300-400hp engines the problem with the original delorean being a flop was it was under powered , also the brakes upgraded with wider wheels needed , and air ducting will be changed

I didn't even know that I wanted to see this race but when I saw this video existed I had to watch it. one of my uncles had a 1965 Corvette with a 327/4spd and back about 1975-ish he wanted a Bricklin and was contemplating getting rid of the 'Vette. Glad he didn't and still has that sweet '65.
