These tests are getting better and higher quality, I like that they still addressed and scored noise and comfort for the xtreme category for those trying to dual duty them and even better that they included a max category tire to understand how they compare, looks to be potentially 2 seconds per one minute lap. Can't wait for additional content/parts!

I think you guys are GREAT and clearly put a lot of work into these tests.. My only concern is that you are not doing blind testing... I think it will go a long way towards getting rid of subconscious bias 😉I think we all have it....
@tirerackАй бұрын
Thank you! We know that no company always gets it right, or wrong, and our testers are tire agnostic; a good tire is a good tire, regardless of brand or price. Same with a bad one. We’ve never been shy about calling out tires that underperform, even if they come from some of the top names in the industry, and we’re equally pleased to see an unexpected underdog punch above its weight class. That being said, we agree blind testing is a positive for limiting any potential unconscious bias, and we still use it in some of our testing - although not featured here, we are always looking at ways to refine our testing and appreciate the feedback!

Love these tests and this video is super super well done y'all. The hosts have great personality and great compatibility. Hope it does well, so that y'all expand further in the future, more tires per test n stuff. Also it's really fun to see these guys hold perfect conversation whilst being chucked around the car lol. I would also add that the overall durability and mileage from these tires is absolutely important. I know it's not in this particular test, but the Conti ECF supposedly lasts longer but trades for relatively lacking grip, which may be lost without that metric.

Thank you! We’ve put a lot of work into changing things around for this test season and we’re happy to hear it’s going over well. We don’t currently test for mileage and durability, but are always exploring ways to improve our testing, rest assured it’s on our minds!

Would be interested to see how the Hankook R-S4 and Continental ECF would compare against the top E.P tires that are more track/AutoX focused as well as comparing it to the similar AD09.
@BrodeyDoverosx2 ай бұрын
RS4 meh. ECF very nice. But the ECF is a big step down in grip compared to other Autocross tires, which shows you how behind the RS4 is. RS4 is deadly for any sitting water, it is durable but it’ll heat cycle out and that’ll leave you with sketchy wet driving and meh grip in the dry.
@tirerackАй бұрын
We would have liked to include the ExtremeContact Force in this test as well, but unfortunately Continental doesn’t make it in our test size. As for the Ventus R-S4, we’ve tested it many times in the past. You can see our most recent test results here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmmoq6x_Zqekeck

When are you going to test fast tires like the 3r and track attack
@alanpaul68552 ай бұрын
These tests are getting excellent every year. Great work! OFC people are complaining about Continental ECF and maybe NFera Sport R but I digress; I would rather see how they weared in terms of tread depth and sidewall wear or perhaps even wear characteristics after first super laps; this info would be so helpful for those who occasionally do track days.
@tirerackАй бұрын
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed the video! We don’t currently test for longevity and wear per set, as it’s outside of the current scope of testing. Our drivers are targeting consistency when running laps, and since we’re not over-driving the tires and the most each tire set experiences is typically 8 recorded laps, our current methodology doesn’t create enough measurable evolution to report. It’s definitely on our minds, though, thanks for the question.
@druscanam2 ай бұрын
Nice, although I would recommend doing a test with a longer higher speed track. Short tight track is going to favour softer tyres that take less time to warm up. It's not surprising the A052 will blitz this test. On a higher speed track the AD09 and V730 are going to be more at home on a high speed track with better stability as well as not overheat as quickly.
@tirerackАй бұрын
The good news is that we did that! Check out Part 2 here: Extreme Performance Summer - 2024 Test 5 Part 2 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4q0nZKlh9tkkKM)
@abe33672 ай бұрын
Would love to know more about testing methods. Do you get tires to their ideal working temp before timing laps or just running from cold until you get a fast lap? If running from cold, what lap is the fastest for each tire? Are you taking tire temps during testing? Ambient temps during testing? Are tires getting heat into them when wet testing? If so, how many laps before timing in the wet? What are the optimal working temps for different tires?
@tirerackАй бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. We love hearing people curious about the methodology. Tires are run for a total of 8 laps and starting from cold, to give each an equal starting point. Our goal is consistency, so while we push each tire to the limit, it’s never at the expense of accurate results. The goal is to provide an equal field for the products to distinguish themselves. Typically the fastest laps are the 2nd lap. We don’t take the actual tire temperature during testing, but we do record ambient temps. Wet testing is conducted the same way, no additional “warmup” laps and no outside heat is added during wet testing, although tires do naturally generate heat from use. Optimal working temperatures is an interesting question, but there are a lot of variables to consider there - it will change from tire-to-tire. We’re testing to identify differences in tire performance, not necessarily how to optimize them, as fun as that would be.

Maybe it’s because you gave a soft factory suspension, but I would never call the A052 a precision tire. My experience matched what you said about the CR-S. Once you get the tire to take a set, you are rewarded with ungodly grip. Good luck trying to carry a precise slide though, we couldn’t feel exactly what the rear tires were doing in my friends FRS. Swapping to RE71Rs resolved that issue.

Overall very nice to have this comparison on extreme performance tires on same car and track. The overall results are in some way expected .. no surprises there. Specifically for highest g on dry surface I dont believe the numbers are accurate. I have tested 71RS in different tracks (Mid-Ohio low grip) and Grattan (high grip) they can generate at least 1.2-1.3g ... this is a lot different than the results presented here 1.04g. Also the lap is too short to establish any good comparison .... need at least 60 sec or more and medium to high speed corners. Maybe it will come in future videos. Thanks for sharing.
@TRZ06122 ай бұрын
G numbers are usually done on a 300ft circle on a flat surface. When you are on track, you have elevation changes , etc. Peak G numbers are not a good matrix, using a skid pad is.
@tirerackАй бұрын
When we’re testing for lateral Gs, we’re looking at average sustained Gs around a 200 ft. diameter skid pad. We’re not looking at peak numbers - what we publish isn’t necessarily “this is the best this tire can do”, but multiple tires tested using the same methods in a controlled environment relative to one another.

In a way, we agree - our team has been doing this for a long time - we started testing with E46 3 Series test cars. As technology has changed, steering feel has changed, and we’ve grown with it. Our obligation to test on vehicles that are representative of the kind of high-end performance that the latest tires are designed for continues, even if it means those vehicles have made some alterations we don’t prefer. We’ve been fortunate enough to experience a wide variety of vehicles and steering to pick up on even subtle nuance.

So Cup 2 wins as it would be the equivalent to these tires and the P4S got second? Not even mentioning the Cup 2 which is 200 treadware and including the 300 P4S is not a good look. Lost a lot of credibility in my mind
@_red_scorpion_2 ай бұрын
The ps4s got dead last where these 200tw tires are made for- the dry track. Of Course, that's not a surprise either. They included the 300tw ps4s to show the differences between the king of the 300 class and 200 class. Of course when they combine both wet and dry, track and road the ps4s will score higher purely because it's much better on the road and in the rain. The cup 2 is also a 200 as you've said and so the ps4s will score above it on the road and in the rain too. You can't just conclude that X tire (cup 2) will win overall because Y tire (ps4s) in a totally different class got a high score when factoring in conditions where the X tires class is not built for.
