I try to buy my eggs from a farm just down the HWY from me. They sell out early and if I realize that I need eggs and they are sold out my grocery store has eggs from pasture raised hens. I still prefer to see the hens running around the fields that surrounds the road side stand. The farmer usually plants sunflowers for them to forage in. It protects them from eagles. Their dog also alerts the hens when an eagle is flying close.

My chickens slowly predator-proofed themselves. When the rooster lets out a certain squawk the hens would run under any cover they could find because they knew a hawk was in the area. A different squawk men a dog and they all flew into trees or some other high place out of the dog's reach.

@@tay.joh.6326 Regular doctors usually never give valid advice on nutrition as they study very little on the topic. They mostly study on medicine and drugs. A doctor once told me that I would be severely lacking in protein yet I get 70 grams of protein every day when I'm not even focusing on getting it. That's like significantly higher than what my body needs. It just goes to show how little doctors know on nutrition. Also the studies which are funded by the egg industry always show that eggs are healthy and most studies that show that, are actually funded by them. This means they have researcher bias and the results are not trustworthy meanwhile non industry funded studies show the opposite results and they rarely ever have bias in them, making them trustworthy and valid.

I have a long history of high cholesterol. Twenty-five years ago, I started at 1200 total with only 17 of that as HDL and the doctor said it was genetic. I became a vegetarian in part to control my cholesterol. I didn't eat many eggs and never the yolks and my cholesterol lowered to about 300 total and hovered at 19 HDL and I was on statin drugs. I had a bad reaction to the statins and stopped taking them after about 10 years after reading about the side effects which my doctor had been denying. My pain was dramatically reduced but the muscle damage is permanent and I have a high calcium score of 399 which I might have avoided with correct info. For about a year now, I have been eating 3 to 6 eggs a day with yolks from my own hens on an organic feed. My cholesterol is now 274 LDL and 44 HDL. The increased HDL will hopefully continue to improve my number and maybe reduce the calcium score. Doctors "practice" medicine. We need to be proactive.

It can affect the heart which is a muscle if you are sensitive to satins. They say that only happens in 1% of patients. Thanks for this information. I would like to add to the facts, something I learning for rising chickens; when you stop feeding them Laying Feed, they will lay eggs naturally, but there are a couple of months toward the end of the year, when they don't lay many eggs, and that is the time when we are not suppose to eat plenty. So I think that the bad rap is from data, generated from conditions of eating too many eggs in that off period. And because of the commercialization, chickens are simulated to drop eggs consistently, for marketing purpose.
